Paul Lewis is one of our better officials and I have missed him in the boy's Regional. He contributes in so many ways to youth sports in our area and it is a shame that some choose to hurl insults instead of recognize his gifts. Good post, Bubba.

GoRadio, I couldn't agree more. It was truly a sad display and I appreciate that you and others on press row pointed it out to those not in attendance. I also agree the result was not affected. it really was horrible both ways. I sincerely hope that Monday night there are three officials calling the game that can keep up with the action. All the stoppages in play during both games to clean up bloody jerseys makes you wonder why virtually no fouls were called until late in the game when a team had to foul.

Yes he was and to the best of my knowledge he has called at least 3 of Ashland's 4 post-season games. I did not realize a team could have its own personal ref. I hope there are some changes Monday night.:argue:

Nice dig ScooterBob. Some of us think the team that is playing the best in the region may advance. The same was said last year when Russell dropped in a big 27 points at Rupp. VanHoose would certainly have made a difference in the score, but I don't think the result would have changed. Russell has had a great season and should be proud, but they really came up empty in the semi-final game.

Elliott. They have a hard row to hoe to get to the finals for the second straight year. They seem to have a refuse to lose attitude and the big A on the jersey doesn't affect them they way it has in the past. It should be a good game. Elliott is going to have to shoot better and get more production from Ferguson. Hopefully the effects of the flu bug will wear off by Monday night.

If Russell controls the pace the scores will not reach the high 60's. They played higher scoring games earlier in the year, but Dodd tends to control the tempo more come tournament time. It's not always as pretty, but it has been effective.

Ferguson shooting woes were possibly due to missing practice all week with the flu as well as a very physical defense played by Boyd in the 1st half. I think the offensive problems in the first half were due partially to jitters, partially to playing in the large gym with open spaces behind the goals, and partially to the defenses being very physical.

Branham and Blanton are good athletes. The rest of the team could not keep up. And I am not a Tubby fan!!!

You have got to be kidding. :irked: Elliott goes 1-13 from behind the arc in the 1st half and is only down one point. If Elliott had shot well at all in the 1st half the game wouldn't have been as close as it was. Boyd was not unprepared. They simply did not have the athletes to run the big floor for 32 minutes and did not have the ballhandlers or defensive stamina to stay in the game after halftime. I think Boyd has had a great season for thier talent level this year and should be proud of what they accomplished.

Elliott shot poorly in the first half and only trailed by one. The shots started falling and Boyd simply ran out of gas midway through the third quarter. Conditioning was a key and Boyd was not in condition. Elliott just ran around them in the second half. When Boyd tried to press Elliott shot a bunch of layups. Boyd's pressure left when they lost their legs and couldn't keep up. Timmy Knipp is going to be a great player. He had three key blocks in the second half along with the three big three pointers.

Russell is still a tough team to beat. When they move the ball around and make that extra pass they are exceptional. I think they will miss VanHoose's defense against Elliott even more than his offense. I'll take Elliott by less than 5 in the best game of the tourney.

My bad. I thought Elliott's defense may have had something to do with his game. I didn't realize he just had an off night against a bunch of little sophmores. :fight:

Coach Daniels makes another early exit with a team that should have gone farther. Martin is a good point player, Daniels a great scorer and with a 6-7 pivot man in this region, they should have been contenders.

You handled that situation last year with such grace and dignity that you have been an inspiration to all, many of whom you probably didn't even know that you touched. I do not know of anyone else that could have dealt with what you all dealt with in such a wonderful manner.

Selby may very well have a monster game tomorrow, but Elliott stopped him pretty well the first time, holding him to 7 points. I agree he is an excellent player, but he is not the best Elliott has faced this year, and with the exception of VanHoose, they have fared pretty well.

After reading the Daily Independent I now realize that Elliott County has no chance in this tournament according to the editors:rolleyes: In my opinion this lack of respect from our big city neighbors will only add a little more motivation to a solid group of undersized kids who play as hard as any team I have seen in a long time. I can only hope that the Independent is as knowlegable and correct as always and the Lions make a deep run into the tournament.:thumb: :thumb:

Ashland is just too talented even for the best coach in this region to overcome. Ashand by 15-20.

Back to topic, if the coach in the same district that play tonight moves to Greenup and that mess, he will regret it for a long time. However, IF he survives politically, his coaching and Greenup's talent pool could create a major headache for the rest of the region.

No surprise at all. Rowan plays in such a weak district they are hard to evaluate. Russell is big and strong and simply outplayed the Vikings. Russell losing their District may motivate them to the State Tournament.

I don't thinks one will even be close. Russell is still a top three team even without VanHoose. Bath gets to the tourney only because they play in an extremely weak district.

If Elliott can get by a tough Boyd team it could help them in the long run more than playing an easy first game. It can only toughen them up for a probable matchup with a Russell team that I still consider to be one of the favorites.

Boyd may very well win this game due to size, but not experience. Elliott may start all sophmores but I would venture to say they boast more tournament experience than Boyd. When you include last year's regional run with all of their major AAU tourneys over the past few years, you would have to say they are an experienced tournament team. To beat Boyd they will have to shoot well and continue to apply the outside pressure to avoid getting muscled in the half court.
