  1. I will miss him in the 16th. He could put on the most childish immature tantrums I have seen since the days of Dick Fick at Morehead. A terrible example of how our youth should conduct themselves in public. Good riddance.
  2. I have met OJ and coached against his teams and you will find my earlier posts always have taken up for him. While in Kentucky I never found him to be anything but a class act and no doubt the most talented player we will see in high school around here. However, his latest actions should cause concern about certain character traits he seems to be developing. He will no doubt be a star. I just hope he is a star we read about only in the context of his basketball talents.
  3. Get real!! He dunked during the game, got the ball and threw it into the crowd!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That gets you technicals. That is not a ref picking on a player. If his HS career wasn't over it would earn him yet another suspension. The kid has great talent. I wish he would get over some of the antics he pulls and showcase the talent.
  4. Yeah, Warren central is the favorite out of the bracket and yeah, the favorites don't usually coast and certainly don't always win. Check with Mason County and a couple of other "shoe-ins" that will be watching the games. I wouldn't count the chickens before they hatch city boys.
  5. Wasn't South Charleston the state runner-up to HHS and OJ last week in WVa?
  6. Rambler, you are a true fan of small schools and our region. It is appreciated!
  7. I was going to not post on this thread again, but the above statement indicates your knowledge of the 16th Region. It was the opinion of vitually everyone that the Boyd-Elliott game was the toughest first rounder and that it was the toughest draw of the tournament. That statement alone lets me know it is a waste of time to further discuss the matter with you. Your dislike of Elliott County clouds your judgment to the point you make such a ridiculous comment.
  8. They are all the "right" age. The holdbacks would have all graduated at 17 had they not been held back. I really do not understand the purpose of the discussion. Who better than the parents know what is right for their kids. I held one back and it worked out great. Another graduated at 17 and that was best for him due to his maturity level. I know all of those parents and much more went into the process than athletics. The rules have been followed. What was done was in the best interests of each individual child and that should be the end of discussion.:flame:
  9. You are entitled to that opinion, but age, maturity, social development and even size should be considered py parents. Many kids graduate at 17 and another year of maturity and development would have been quite useful, and I am not talking about athletics. Your opinion doesn't really consider all relevant issues.
  10. Good season for RH. Foul trouble and no bench did them in again. They really had an excellent season when you consider the lack of depth behind the big two and Faulkner.
  11. I hate to go here again, but I don't think you are aware of their ages with respect to their classmates, so let it go.
  12. Elliott seems to be one of those teams where being small works to their advantage. Hard to match up with 4 and 5 guards. They seem to rebound well because they get to the boards so quickly a big man can't block them out. Elliott by 5.
  13. Shelby Valley-Elliott County will be entertaining. Two young teams that really get after it. I am looking forward to watching them play. They have played many of the same players against each other in AAU ball dating back to the 6th, 7th and 8th grades. The games were always close and pretty up tempo.
  14. I am sure that Elliott will shut down. There won't be a teacher, student or administrator in town anyway.
  15. I certainlywasn't slamming Rose Hill or any poster. I think Rose Hill fans and Elliott County fans generally support each other. I know from the last few years of AAU ball I have truly enjoyed the kids and parents from Rose Hill and have become a fan of the boys and girls teams. They play the game the right way. My original post was just that it would be nice to leave the whole Ashland-Rose Hill conflict out of a thread every now and then. And on that argument I must say I usually come down on the side of the Hill, too. We appreciate the support of the 16th Region fans and I really hope those kids go to Lexington and continue to have fun playing the game the way they do.
  16. Our system is special. It should never be changed. Having a small school like Elliott County make it to Rupp is what small town dreams are made of. Don't dilute that. If you went to classes in the 16th A and AA would be packed with teams. AAA and AAAA, if there are any, would be an automatic trip for some schools every year.
  17. I realize who it was. I apologize for making a negative post. I was enjoying the other thread until it got shut down by things that had nothing to do with the game or thread. Those Elliott County players know they are near and dear to me and their accomplishments make the whole county proud. The kids and parents have worked harder than can be imagined and sacrificed greatly in time and money to develop their talent, but their attitude and heart is what won this championship. I think their style will win over many fans at Rupp.
  18. I have it from a very reliable source that the job will be open. It is a shame. Pratt is a class act and never really had the type of players to make a tourney run.
  19. Truly a great article. On a side note,it is a shame that two Rose Hill posters started bickering with each other and got the Ashalnd-Elliott County thread closed. It would have been nice for once to discuss a 16th region game without a Rose Hill conflict shutting it down.:fight:
  20. No homecourt advantage for Rowan. They don't play or practice at MSU and their fans do not buy up all the tickets. In the championship game it looked like an Elliott County home game. I would bet over 2,000 of the 3100+ that were in attendance were from Elliott which is pretty amazing considering the size of the schools involved.
  21. Again I don't think it necessarily the fans from Elliott that are popping off about the next few years. Over the years Ashland has developed quite a few detractors around the region. With the classy manner in which Biggs conducts himself this may change somewhat. We will enjoy this one for all its worth and then get ready because there is never an easy path for a small school. However, it will be fun to watch 2 small schools be highly regarded next season. There is a multitude of young talent at Rose Hill and Elliott County.
  22. I don't think its the Elliott Fans Onetoya. Let me say that the first half was one of the best shows we have seen at the Regional for several years. No walk it up and grind it out, just pure pressure, run, gun and hustle. Coach Bigg's comments after the game show him to be a truly class act and a welcome addition to the 16th and I love the fact he stuck to his style. Elliott finally shot the ball like they are capable of and the results showed. Those kids were going to find a way to win that game. The rebounding of the Faulkners is amazing for kids their size. It just shows how much they want it. Maynard pops off the bench and simply went off on Ashland. When he gets time to set his feet, he is deadly. I congratulate both coaches for not overcoaching. Some seem to think it shows great coaching to control every trip down the floor. Mays and Biggs have the confidence in the players just to let them play and it paid off for both of them all year. And a big hats off to Elliott's fans. They had by far the biggest crowd every night despite being the smallest school. One last comment, Timmy Knipp may be one of the best to come out of this region ina long time before he graduates. There will be some classic Elliott-Rose Hill games in the near future.
  23. Homecourt is an advantage. In the 16th, played at MSU no one can shoot well, apparently due to the wide open spaces behind the goals. The extra 10 feet does work to the quicker, more fit team's advantage.
  24. I hope to celebrate at BW3s but without the crow.:dancingpa
