Why are they playing the boys semis Saturday afternoon?

Thats about the worst case for Elliott and best for Ashland, but what else is new?

This draw will remind region followers of the 2002 and 2003 tournaments. Both of those years, there were three top contenders- Ashland, Morgan County, and Rose Hill. On both occasions, Rose Hill and Morgan County had to face each other in the semifinals while Ashland had a much easier time of it.

Rose Hill beat Morgan County both years and lost to Ashland in 2002 and beat Ashland in 2003. I know that many Morgan Countians still believe that, if they had gotten by Rose Hill, the Cougars would have made two trips to Rupp Arena.

Both Russell and Elliott County are obviously disappointed with the draw. However, don't overlook Rowan County playing, more or less, at home.

Nonetheless, I'm sure they are doing backflips and high fives over on Blazer Blvd. I'm sure they are also saluting Matt Thomas since he carried the load when the all marbles were on the table in both of Ashland's district games. Good job, Matt. The only thing I would have changed is the color of your uniform.;)

Well, Elliott got screwed, but should still be the favorites. I would have to say Ashland vs. Elliott for the trip to Rupp. Russell is most likely hurting without Vanhoose. Ashland better also watch out for Rowan.

How did Elliott get screwed in a blind draw??

They got as bad a draw as they could've got - so they got screwed.

Ashland got a fantastic draw.

Tough luck for Russell, Boyd, and Elliott. But I think that Russell will be the survivor in that side of the bracket. I don't think Elliott will be able beat the hot Boyd County. Selby will keep every coach in the region up late at night trying to find a way to stop him. Then Russell has a relatively easy game in the 1st round while either Boyd or Elliott will have to come off of a tough emotional first round game.

I predict an Ashland vs Russell final

Actually Rick Mays might not have a problem finding a way to stop Selby, considering he had 7 points aganist them last time they played. But just like all the rest of this year, and just like all of last year people contuine to pick aganist Elliott County. Boyd may be playing good basketball, but is Elliott County not?

I would say Title IX is the reason. It looks like they have switched the days that the boys and girls usally play around.

Girl's state tourney is before the boy's this year. That is why the girl's start and finish first this year in the region.:thumb:

And why do the girls play 1st this year? Could that be Title IX related also?

Doubt it. Have you noticed Rupp isn't available the usual boys' week and WKU wasn't on spring break the usual girls week. This appears to work better for all.

If Elliott can get by a tough Boyd team it could help them in the long run more than playing an easy first game. It can only toughen them up for a probable matchup with a Russell team that I still consider to be one of the favorites.

I'll star this one out with my picks for this weeks tournament

game 1 : Ashland vs. Lewis = Ashland

game 2 : Rowan Co. vs. East C. = Rowan Co.

game 3 : Russell vs. Bath Co. = Russell

game 5 : Elliott Co. vs, Boyd Co. = Elliot Co.

Semi Finals:

Ashland vs. Rowan = Ashland

Russell vs. Elliott Co. = Russell

16th Regional Champion

Ashland Tomcats

Imo the Elliott/Russell matchup imo is a toss up and could go either way.

Good Luck to all, I have soft spot in my heart for the small schools so I will be pulling for Elliott Co. to advance to Rupp.:thumb:

Looks pretty good, only one in first round that may change outcome for tourny could be Elliott vs. Boyd, that one could go either way. Selby is a matchup problem for Elliott, as he is for most teams in the region.
