Giwa, Rettig, Mike Sullivan & possibly sophs Roenker and Lea are all capable scorers to go along with Sorrell. They will have to be if HC is going to be successful. If not, every team will double and use gimmick defenses on Sorrell and it will be a long season.

Not that tall, maybe 6'0 or so, but he is strong. They're going to need someone strong to box out and move people around and do the dirty work underneath. They'll have plenty of scorers, they'll just need him to get rebounds and play defense. He sure won't be the first small "big man" in HC history IF he trys out and makes the team.

I have heard that he will try out. Yes, he will help, if nothing else give them a big body down low which they sorely need.

The word "Crossbacks" was always meant to be derogatory towards HC students. All of us were called Crossbacks growing up, especially by the Holmes students. However, all the alumni I know, now embrace the term and are proud to be called Crossbacks. Of course, we're also proud to be called "Indians" too.

I can't remember for sure, but I think Lenny Spicer from Walton was drafted pretty highly. Don't know what ever happened to him though. Off topic a bit but here's a good trivia question: Holmes grad Leo Foster did something that only one other major leaguer has ever done in the history of baseball in his major league debut, what is it? (Hint: He was the only one to do this until 2002 when Seattle's Ron Wright also did it)

What am I missing here? I figured Kevin finally landed his dream job when he gave up a nice head coaching job at Boone Co to be the assistant for his father at CCH. I also figured he was probably being groomed to be the future head coach at his alma mater!

Why did Hatcher leave? Were there problems at Graves with him? I know he's very well known around the state. What school is PCC?

I wonder if either of the Kues brothers would be interested. Ray already coaches the girls. Rob is available now too.

Wasn't at the game. I was told Roenker pitched against Beechwood, but I guesss it was the St Henry game. Sorry for the confusion as I was misinformed. I agree Beechwood has the ability to beat anyone in the 9th with Elliot & Bankemper pitching. Having said that, it's still pretty impressive that they could lose so many seniors from that great team and come back this year and win the All A.

Congrats to the Beechies! Can't imagine Beechwood losing so many seniors from last years' great team and still beating a supposedly very good HC team. Freshman Roenker pitched well enough to win but got NO support. It's a long season but HC's bats better wake up soon. Great job by Elliot. Hopefully, Beechwood can represent the 9th well in the All A State. With their pitching, I'm sure they will. Good luck Beechwood!

Yes, Mark Moeves is the father of Derrick Moeves and the son of former Bulldog coach Fred Moeves. The Bulldogs were royally screwed that year. I really thought we finally had our first 9th Region Championship. This was on the heels of the CCH/Earlington fiasco 11 years prior. Everyone was beginning to think there had to be some kind of conspiricy against the 9th Region. Then Simon finally won it--- and moved to the tenth region! Still no current 9th region team with a state championship!

Congratulations Cory! This was a mildly surprising hire when you consider who probably was interested in this job. I think Cory will do a fine job though!

Was this game really a district seeding game this early in the season? That seems crazy. Perhaps this is the only time these two will play this year. It doesn't seem fair to either team to play such an important game this early.

I agree! The tickets are purchased for the coach by the school as a SMALL perk for someone who puts in many hours for next to nothing. They own them and have every right to sell them if they chose to not attend a session. I'm glad they do sell them sometime because if they didn't, the normal fan would never have a chance to sit in the premium seats. I'd also be willing to bet that they sell them for face value just so they don't go to waste. I really don't think most coaches are down there trying to make a killing off their tickets!

Holmes & CCH along with Ryle & Boone should be tops early on. Never count out NCC or HC, as each should get better as the year goes on. Eifert from HC graduated this year. I see some mentioned him as being back.

He was a tremendous pitcher in high school too!
