Yes she was. She was the leading scorer on the 1979 regional runner-up team that lost to Paris. I believe that is the only year that Augusta has made the regional finals. Not to mention she was a 16 year old senior during the 1978-1979 season.

Forward/Center Hannah Jefferson should be on this list. If she had not torn her ACL her senior year, she would have gone on to score 1400-1500 points.

I have really enjoyed reading this thread. It gets me pumped up for the state tournament!

I almost always root for the 10th region at state. It's weird though because when I was younger my family always went to the first round session when the 9th region was playing. My father and grandfather went to Campbell County when they were in the 9th.

You are correct. He lived in a Newport apartment complex with his mother and then moved across the river to live with his uncle. Sorry about that.

True. I stated this because the past X years they have drawn the best team in the district with the exception of one year(when they drew Bracken in the old 38th). With this draw, they will have more of an opportunity to accmplish their every year goal. Still, they have to come out, play hard, execute and put the ball in the basket. I know this is the boys forum, but Pendleton's girls have a chance to make the Regional Tournament for the first time since the 1990's.

I knew "Herky" growing up. We played AAU together and against each other. He was always a phenomenal athlete and was very long. I think he could dunk in the 7th grade. When he was in the 8th grade he was already Newport's best player. Then him and his mother moved to Ohio and he went to Winton Woods and then Taft. I'm not sure how good his grades were, but I'm guessing that was his reason for going to a prep school. He'll definitely play somewhere after he gets out of there.

I just found out that Pendleton County drew Harrison County in the District Tournament. Deming and Nicholas County will play each other in the opposite bracket. The 38th finals is Friday, March 2nd at HCHS.
