They are listed the following, per the KHSAA.

6,000 - Mason County

4,200 - Montgomery County

Measurements, are done based off certain criteria, total seats and much more data, including square foot and safety.

These values are comparable, to the numbers you listed.

Is Montgomery County taking rows of seats out of gym because bench is right next to sideline? Heard fans would walk in front of bench and it is a nightmare for coaches and players.

The seats where the officials sit at the scorers table almost touch the bleachers behind them. No room to walk and i would not be suprised if 2 or 3 rows were taken out. Pretty sure your not suppose to walk in front of the bench but instead go through the walkway outside of the gymnasium.

Any new pics of the gym??

If they are only going to allow 3600 in the gym, the regional tournament will get very dicey next year!

I want to be able to see the game! If I travel to Montgomery Co for a region game and am not allowed in because of full capacity than that is terrible. 3600 is not a big gym. I thought Clark Co had that big of a gym. I guess Montgomery could not afford to build a big gym.

They could always move it to Augusta's near-500 cap. Gymnasium. ;)

Actually in October or November when everyone starts gearing up for the new basketball season next year, we can have a contest.

The contest will be to guess how many threads are started complaining, worrying, excited or anxious about the regional being held in that gym. I think it would be a fun contest we could all enjoy. lol

First of all, everyone needs to realize that building codes have changed since Mason County's gym was built. When measuring for seating capacity, seats are now required to be 6" wider than they used to be. In other words, a 30' section of bleachers would have a capacity of 20 people as measured under the old guidelines, while the same 30' section would only have a capacity of 15 people under the current set of codes. Mason County's seating capacity was determined years ago under the old guidelines. If it were measured today by the current standards, the capacity would be considerably less. Likewise, if Montgomery County's gym was measured according to the old building code, its capacity would be considerably more than 4,200.

The largest crowd that Montgomery County has had to date was their game with GRC on Jan. 19. The crowd at that game was reported to be around 3,500 and there were several empty seats. I'd say they could have easily handled another 1,000 people, and if squeezed in like some of the crowds I've been a part of at the Fieldhouse, I wouldn't be surprised if they were able to get 5,000+ in there.

Today's butts are larger than yesteryear's butts. According to el gato's numbers we are three inches larger per cheek nowadays, Atkins diet anyone???

Here is a link to pictures and info on the new gym:

It has the correct seating ...... 4,200 and will be shut down when they get to 5,000

.Not the 3600 as posted above.

If we use the 6,000 figure from above for Mason and the $5.00 admission fee, that would mean each session that is sold out would see a $5,000 decrease in the regional gate. Seven sessions and worse case scenario is a reduction in gate of $35,000 for the regional tournament.

Now they will not sell out each and every session, but if they sell out the last 3, that would still result in a reduction of the gate of $15,000. Among the 8participants that will share the proceeds that COULD translate into close to $2,000 less per team they take home.

I know of at least 2 regional tournaments held at the Field House where people were turned away. There are always going to be more people wanting to watch than the gym will hold. Especially for region championships. So if you are worried about driving to Montgomery County and getting turned away think about the people that got turned away at Mason County. It works both ways.
