Montgomery County Gym

Featured Replies

Bottom line: Only time will tell. Once the regionals are held there, we will know if the gym can handle it. If not, then we will know better for future reference. If it can, then great! We will have another place for a rotation! No use crying over spilled milk that is still in the glass! :D

Well said! I have to wonder why Montgomery Co administration would even want the tournament - the fans that want it at Mason seem to be determined to make it fail and if the money is split between everyone fairly there appears to be no financial advantage to having it at any particular school, although I would think any host school has expenses that can't be accounted for (to be fair - possibly income too). I would guess the new gym at Montgomery County wasn't built simply to host the 10th Region tourn once a year, surely the size of the gym was chosen based on other factors besides keeping up with Mason. It is nice that the money was spent on a facility for students and players not on seating that is only filled to capacity a few times a year. Mason County built a state of the art gym when it was built, Montgomery County did the same. They were just built 40 years apart therefore it is hard to compare.

True it sounds unfair for Mason to have home court advantage for 40 years, but I doubt this is the reason they have a good team. Sure, it would be nice for them to have to travel to play games just like everyone else.

Bottom line is "Are you picking where you play the game based on the needs of the players or the wants of the fans?"

Just wait until Northern Ky University gets their new 10,000 seat facility and it can be held there every year and everyone will get to see all the games. I would think that the ninth and tenth both could be held there.

It would only be held there they year the NKY district is slated to host the regional tournament. I think you will end up seeing the rotation of NKU when the Brossart/Campbell district hosts the regional, two years at Mason when the two districts of Mason and Harrison/Pendleton hosts the district and Montgomery County when Mont/GRC district hosts the regional tournament.

Those districts decide WHERE they are going to host the regional tournament.

I think this is a fair plan. Each district decides where they want to host when it's their turn in the rotation.

I wish our region did that, and narrowed the rotation to 4, instead of 6 sites. As of now we rotate between Perry Central, Hazard, Breathitt County, Powell County, Letcher Central, and Knott Central.

The reason the Mason Co program is up and will stay up is because they're pretty particular who coaches their grade and middle school programs. They hire qualified coaches at all levels who know and teach fundamentals. A lot of the other programs that I am familiar with will let just about anyone coach that wants to not knowing diddly squat about basketball and people wonder why they aren't prepared when they reach the high school level. A lot of the superintendents don't have any interest in sports and that's the big let down. They simpley don't care. Don't blamb the boys , it's not their fault for not knowing the fundamentals of basketball or how to play.:fight:

I agree with you John Boy, but I was addressing whether the Montgomery Gym could handle the 10th region tournament, not the coaching of either or any program.

I know and I'm sorry.I should have made this a new thread .The subject has really bothered me .

I don't care about the new 8.1 million gym, but what I do care about is the 10 cent football and soccer field!

Bottomline, Montgomery County has a nice small gym but the revenue that schools receive from the tournament will be severly hurt if it is held at Montgomery Co. 3000 less people in a gym is a lot of money. At $5.00 per person that is $15,000 per session. Loosing $45,000 just so Montgomery Co. can say they hosted a regional is scarey to all schools in the tenth who receive money.

I know of at least 2 regional tournaments held at the Field House where people were turned away. There are always going to be more people wanting to watch than the gym will hold. Especially for region championships. So if you are worried about driving to Montgomery County and getting turned away think about the people that got turned away at Mason County. It works both ways.

Except OVER A 1000 LESS PEOPLE GET TURNED AWAY!!!!!! That's an entire 3A-4A school.

:argue: starmayor, I'm going to type this slow so you can comprehend it. You have stated, incorrectly I might add, numerous times on this post about how Montgomery Co.'s gym only holds 3400, or 3600, or is smaller than Clark Co.'s gym, and now that it seats 3000 less than the Fieldhouse, despite the fact that several people have told you that your numbers are wrong. Get your facts right! The State Fire Marshall measured Montgomery's gym at 4408. According to a previous poster, the Mason Co. maintenence guy said they measured the Fieldhouse the same day at 5200. According to my math, and feel free to check me, that's a difference of 792 people, not 3000. It's obvious that you are totally opposed to Montgomery Co. hosting the region next year, and that is fine. But please quit posting false information on here! :argue:

Usually the finals is the only problem and then not every time.Thats one session and difference in capacity is not 3000 people.:thumb:

Here is a reminder :

Rule # 6

6. No putting incorrect or false information on the site.

The law of supply and demand would indicate that if people are being turned away at Montgomery county then they could raise the price of tickets

Montgomery 4408 x $6 =$26,448

Mason 5200 x $5 =$26,000

Money problem solved!
