With the new six classification playoffs set to start in a few weeks...a quick question. With the district teams playing each other in the playoffs for the "District Champioships" if a team from a "western district" other than the #1 seed wins the district playoff championships and has to face the "eastern district" champion who happens to be a #1 seed... who travels were considering that this year east travels west. I know there is some confusion among fans, and even some coaches on what this new type of playoff scenario means...can someone out there shed some light on what would happen if this type of scenario happens. Thanks...I will hang up and lister to your answer off the air!!!

I would say that it was...anytime that you take away your starting QB and replace him with a freshman you are not going to have the same plan that you otherwise would have. However with that being said Guhy played a pretty good game...not his best passing game...but also not having our starting center also hurt. We had to move our starting fullback (and middle linebacker) to the center position tonight. So all-in-all was not the best night to have two starters on the bench for a one game suspension. But take absolutely nothing away from FC...they played one heck of a game...offensively they are not that diverse...but their defense is what will give people fits...as they are the fastest and hardest hitting defense we have seen...including faster than Tilghman's. Hopefully we will see this FC team in a few weeks for the rematch in the playoffs with a full squad...as I have to feel that it MIGHT have been a different scenario if Armstrong would have been there tonight...but we will never know. Congrats to FC on a big win and best of luck next week against Lone Oak. And to answer someone else's question...Fulton City is a lot better than what I thought they would be...especially on the defensive end. And right now Mayfield is struggling with confidence...do I think they have the talent to win it all...yes I do...but only if they can get back to playing the way they did the first half of the season...but the next couple of weeks will tell the tale as we have Marshall and Caldwell Counties both on the road.two teams playing really well right now!!!

This game will have a different feel to it on Friday night as the Cards will have to shuffle their lineup somewhat this week as Luke Guhy will be at QB and there are some other offensive shakeups due to the aforementioned one game suspensions for getting ejected last week and for the other dismissal...so will be a new look Cardinal group...but talked to Coach Morris this Thursday morning and he feels like things are back on the right track, but went on to say that will have to wait and see how Friday night goes as Fulton City has more talent than they have had in quite a while. Should be a good game for home field advantage throughout the playoffs at War Memorial Stadium!!!

IMHO...the biggest question mark will be Mayfield's mindset...will they come out with something to prove from last week...if they do then I see Mayfield winning this contest 28-7...if they do not...Fulton City has the talent to beat this Mayfield squad and maybe spinning the Cards into a freefall the rest of the way. I feel (and hope) that the Cards will come out the way I expect them to and look to redeem themselves against a very good Fulton City team.

You are correct...although it would have been doubtful for Logan to play this week anyway if he had not. Should be an interesting game Friday night with all the circumstances now...with Mayfield's loss last week to Calloway and the ejection of Logan Armstrong and starting center Trevor Williams. Will Mayfield come out fired up after last week's embarrasing loss...and will the team rally around freshman QB Luke Guhy as they did in the wins over Graves County and Crittenden County with Guhy as QB...inquiring minds want to know???

Give Calloway County credit they played a great game Friday night and they were the more focused and determined team. I figured Mayfield would have a "trap" game but figured it would come after either the Graves County win or the Paducah Tilghman game and not this last one. No shame in losing to Calloway County...just a shame in Mayfield losing the way that they did by not playing with any heart and pride...granted there were a few kids out there playing hard...just not the whole team like they have the past six weeks. This should be the wake up call that Mayfield needs to get kids attention and to tell them that they have to come out every week with the focus and determination that they showed in the prior games...if they do that they will be fine the rest of the season. Too bad Mayfield did not bring their "A" game as it would have been fun to see that matchup with Calloway County. Hopefully this will be a wake up call to the Mayfield players that they have to bring their focus and determination week in and week out if they want to get to Louisville...and I think this team will rebound and make a strong showing this Friday night against Fulton City. And if they can do that then hopefully we will look back at this loss as a positive thing that propelled them to a long postseason run. Good luck to Calloway County the rest of the season and the postseason.

Another thing worth pointing out is that there are not as many Newspapers using the Associated Press anymore with the internet and therefore you are not really getting a full spectrum of voters from across the state who really know the teams in their region so you get name recognition, and as many on here have previously stated the ones that vote only look at teams won-loss record instead of looking who they have played, how they have faired and whether or not there were any significant injuries that resulted in maybe a close loss. If there is going to be a poll from media outlets then it needs to be weighted across the entire state and make the votes public so that everyone can see who somebody voted for and then they can answer why they voted for a particular team or teams. Then they might take a closer look at who they are voting for and more importanly why they are voting for them. I know for myself who works in the media that I would not want to have to vote for a statewide top ten in all the classes because I am not that familiar with all the teams in the state that may not be in my teams class or region. And I am saying this with my team ranked #1 in class A in the AP poll...whether or not they should be there (or that if Beechwood should have fallen after their tough loss against CovCath on the road)...who knows...we will see come late November or December as that is the beauty of high school football...we get to settle it on the field.

All of the positive yards that Fulton County had were against the JV and freshman group in the second half as the starters rested...Mayfield's starters held the Fulton County starters to (-9) total yards in the first half...while Mayfield racked up over 360 yards in their first half.

What a tragic accident for that young man's family and the Paducah Tilghman football team. Seems weird that just a couple of weeks ago was announcing this young man in the game against Mayfield. Just goes to show that we should all remember that as passionate we are about all of our teams that this is a game being played by young men who deserve our praise instead of our criticism...and that at any time any one of our lives can be taken. Thoughts and prayers go out to this young man's family, friends, teammates and coaches as they go through this tragic time.

I was referring to Mayfield...not Beechwood. Mayfield is #1 in AP polls. But I also think that Beechwood is low in the rankings.

Marshall County at #17 and Christian County at #19 are a little too high for those two schools. Both good programs...just would not put them in the top twenty. Looks like once again old Dave goes by size than quality in his polls...just for example...Mayfield has beaten both Graves County and Paducah Tilghman this year but yet are still behind those two schools in the rankings. Not only Mayfield...but Beechwood getting no love from Mr. Cantrell...but then it again it helps if he actually got out and looked at the teams instead of just looking at numbers.

I agree...if everyone for Calloway is healthy then this should be a good matchup for both teams and serve both teams well come playoff time...for Mayfield going up against a team that has both a good passing game and can run the ball as well...for Calloway they get to go up against a storied program that plays about as well in all three phases of the game as you will find. Should be a fun time and I agree with Diamondog that is good to see the game back on the schedule.

Who wins this week and why...can Calloway County use their spread offense and passing attack to put up some points on Mayfield? Can Mayfield's secondary shut down the receivers for Calloway...and can Calloway's defense shut down Mayfield's array of weapons at the skill positions to pull off the upset at War Memorials Stadium. I say that the CARDS come out focused, blitzing the Lakers QB into some turnovers and Mayfield wins this one 35-14

The CARDS will not overlook Calloway County...the one thing this Mayfield team does very well is keep focuses on the task at hand each week. Mayfield is very well aware of who Calloway has played and how they have faired against those opponents. Plus this CARDS team has too much pride in how they play and know that they can be a special team, but to do that they have to play one game at a time.

LOL...I don't think that the CARDS are ready to hand over anything to anybody just yet...epsecially if we can take care of business with Fulton City in two weeks...then someone is gonna have to come to our house and take it away from us. And in November...that is a hard thing to do!!!

Congrats to the ADS for a big district win...although it sounds like both teams and fans had some good moments and some moments that might need working on...but that is the joy...and sometimes pain of high school football. Bet it was a good environment at Admiral Stadium...always enjoyed our time up there...well except for the long drive homes after a cold November night...lol. Good luck to both the ADS and the Tigers...you guys both have our respect down here in the western part of the state.

The Eagles have taken it on the chin and afterwards Coach Mike Rogers ripped into his team saying that they did not come out focused and that some changes may be made this week in practice due to lack of effort on the teams part. Sad that when you have 20 out of 22 starters being Seniors that you have to even talk about effort...that should come down to the players wanting to make the most out of their senior season and not fall on the coaches to do so. If you have to have coaches constantly trying to get you fired up to play...well maybe those players need to find a basket weaving class and take it and get off the football field. Congrats to Coach Clevenger and the Henderson County program picking up their first win...now that makes the district race wide open again bringing all the teams into contention for a playoff spot.

No injuries for the Cards in this one as everyone is now back with the exception of Nick Walters who got hurt in the preseason. Great job of coming out focused and playing a great game...make that half before being replaced the entire second half by the J-V and freshman. Cards could have put up a 100, but that is not Mayfield's style...classy move by Coach Morris to pull starters at half and to keep the ball on the ground in the second half. Should be a fun matchup with the Lakers and their spread offense and passign attack.

I don't know if Tilghman has the passing game to go all the way...but with the win Friday night it locks up the district championship so someone will have to go into Tilghman and knock them off in the playoffs...which is not an easy thing to do. Tilghman has the speed on defense to make it a tough matchup for whomever they play from here on out...they just need some confidence after losing some tough games early on and the shutout win may just have provided that.

Great job Bulldogs...congrats on beating Murray High...here's to a great game in two weeks at War Memorial Stadium
