Prep football: Rating the state By Dave Cantrall Oct 8

Featured Replies

Marshall County at #17 and Christian County at #19 are a little too high for those two schools. Both good programs...just would not put them in the top twenty.

Looks like once again old Dave goes by size than quality in his polls...just for example...Mayfield has beaten both Graves County and Paducah Tilghman this year but yet are still behind those two schools in the rankings. Not only Mayfield...but Beechwood getting no love from Mr. Cantrell...but then it again it helps if he actually got out and looked at the teams instead of just looking at numbers.

I don't think Dave puts a lot of effort into research for his poll. Pulaski Co (6-0) beat Southwestern (2-5) last friday by a score of 41-15 but SW is ranked 14th in 5A and PC is ranked 20th. PC also beat Mercer Co who is ranked 12th in 5A. No love for the Maroons. I am a Somerset fan, but you still have to give our cross town rivals thier props.

I'm not sure how Dave does his ranking, but I agree with you. Highlands pretty much dominated Male in a preseason scrimmage. I know it was only a scrimmage, but it was a game like scrimmage, with kick offs, returns, etc. and both teams played their starters heavily.

Oh well, rankings aren't a science and are just one person's opinion. And they really don't mean anything. The only thing that matters is the trophy at Papa Johns.

The Litkenhous ratings look to be more accurate. Plus I like where they have my Jumpers ranked.

I do think he has it right with the first few spots in 3A. Central and Belfry look to be at the head of the class, P-T and Breathitt next, with Russell and Mason County neck-and neck. And a significant drop-off after the top 10 teams.

There are other spots down on the list that could be debated (East Carter ranked several spots above West, for example).

Pulaski County 20th in 5A? You've got to be kidding me. Does reputation have 50% to do with the ratings? Should be a top 10 at this point. Is Cantrell smoking some of that football grass?

These ratings are a sham, as well.

I agree.

I think Manual is to low and Male is way to high. JMHO.

5A

14. Southwestern 56.9

20. Pulaski Co. 52.5

SW over PC is the dumbest thing in the entire ratings. SW has won 2 games and barely won those, Pulaski is undefeated and just beat SW by over 20.

They are a joke ... one look at 4A and all credibility goes right out the window. North Bullitt ahead of Bullitt East, Bullitt East ahead of Marion Co, Boyle anywhere near the top 10.

No offense, but the location of your Jumpers is one of the main reasons why the Lit Ratings are less accurate than the Cantrall. If Russellville and Somerset are the #3 and #4 teams in 3A then I will eat my hat! Those 3A Lit Ratings ahve Russell as the #11 3A team in the state.

Also, look at the Lit rating thread and see my arguement about Green County. According to the Lit Ratings, lowly Green County is one of the Top 25 teams in the state and better than such well known programs as Danville, Beechwood, Mayfield, Belfry, Lafayette, Johnson Central, SOMERSET, etc.....

Cantrall ratings aren't very good, but Lit ratings at this point are just plain absurd.

You know you would have thought that as computers became more advanced then these rankings would have become better. Perhaps it is time to take a look at the people that prepare the programs. They seem to be living in the past......Or perhaps on another plain of existence.

According to the Lit Ratings, lowly Green County is one of the Top 25 teams in the state...

Lowly? They may not be one of the overall top-25 teams in the state, but Green County is a potential force in Class 2A.
