Wow. I'll bet the celebration in Fulton is pretty big tonight.

Tough loss, 'Pick. Get back on the horse next week. I remember a year when Mayfiedl lost 3 or 4 regular season and still went to the title game.

Hello.....

Honest opinions, is Fulton City the real deal, or is Mayfield not quite the juggernaut many thought they were going to ebt hsi season?

Were the players being suspended for Mayfield play a big factor in this game? I am assuming it did.

As an outsider looking in it has to be a little of both.

This game was fairly slow in the first half with Fulton City scoring on a run by their highly touted RB Williams from around midfield. Mayfield had 3 drives (one by turnover) that got them deep in Fulton City territory. The first saw Mayfield held on downs, another saw a turnover and another saw a missed field goal after a bad snap or hold. At half it was Fulton City leading 8-love. Fulton City outgained Mayfield in the first half approximately 130 to 85 total yards with the bulk comming on Williams long run. In the 3rd quarter Fulton went 3 and out on their first drive and punted. Mayfield moved to mid field and fumbled. Fulton at this point was not geneerating any offense but Mayield mounted a long drive that started at its own 30 yard line utilizing the run. The Cards extra point was good and it was tied at 8-8. Fulton's Williams then ran the insueing kick back for a TD and again converted a 2 point conversion for a 16-8 lead. Mayfield then again mounted a long scoring drive by way of the run and then converted the 2 point conversion for a 16-16 tie midway through the 4th quarter. After the kickoff Fulton was held and it's punt was blocked and Mayfield set up shop on the Fulton 20 yard line but had to settle for a field goal to go up 19-16 with about 4 minutes to go. Fulton then answered on a drive that was keyed by 2 long pass plays the latter for a TD with a minute 1:15 to go in the game. After kicking off to Mayfield, the Cards fumble on their first play from scrimmage and that was the game. Fulton went on to score then Mayfield throws a int returned ro the Cards 3 yard line. with 1 second to go Fulton elects to not take a knee and punches in another score for their ! on the game.

Good win Fulton City over Mayfield. Next week at Flash field a showdown of two ranked & unbeaten teams. It should be a good & exciting game. I am looking forward to it.

The Cards can use this as a little motivation for the next meeting.;)

Not having Armstrong a big difference for Mayfield?

You are largely correct, Mayfield was without 3 starters, 2 of which go both ways. 2 due to ejection last week and 1 was kicked off team for his antics in the same game. The Cards QB was one of the kids ejected and had to sit out. His backup is out with a broke arm leaving a freshman in Luke Guhy. Guhy will be a good one but his passing is not that of the starter and he is not a threat to run as is the starter. Fulton does deserve alot of credit though, they flat out did what they had to do. Mayfield is likely better than they showed and will likely get a 2nd chance in the playoffs and should do so with a full deck. Mayfield is also a young team for the most part and I think ther unexpected fast start got alot of people thinking they are better than they are. For the most part I feel the WKY area is down which further made Mayfield look better. Make no mistakes they are very dangerous though and are capable of great things. They should be a favorites in the class in my opinion in the next couple years with some of the best talent in years getting more mature, bigger, stronger and faster

The Cards can use this as a little motivation for the next meeting.;)

Yep, not to mention the fans came pouring out on the field and stomped on the cardinal head in the middle of the field, coach morris said, "That wont' be forgotten"

Thanks TP, you are a class act.

I would say that it was...anytime that you take away your starting QB and replace him with a freshman you are not going to have the same plan that you otherwise would have. However with that being said Guhy played a pretty good game...not his best passing game...but also not having our starting center also hurt. We had to move our starting fullback (and middle linebacker) to the center position tonight. So all-in-all was not the best night to have two starters on the bench for a one game suspension. But take absolutely nothing away from FC...they played one heck of a game...offensively they are not that diverse...but their defense is what will give people fits...as they are the fastest and hardest hitting defense we have seen...including faster than Tilghman's. Hopefully we will see this FC team in a few weeks for the rematch in the playoffs with a full squad...as I have to feel that it MIGHT have been a different scenario if Armstrong would have been there tonight...but we will never know.

Congrats to FC on a big win and best of luck next week against Lone Oak.

And to answer someone else's question...Fulton City is a lot better than what I thought they would be...especially on the defensive end. And right now Mayfield is struggling with confidence...do I think they have the talent to win it all...yes I do...but only if they can get back to playing the way they did the first half of the season...but the next couple of weeks will tell the tale as we have Marshall and Caldwell Counties both on the road.two teams playing really well right now!!!

I hit the exits but the radio said that the Fulton fans were dancing or as they put it, stomping on the Cardinal head at mid field in celebration immediately after it was over. This is Mayfield's first district loss as far as I can tell since Caldwell Co upset Mayfield when the Cards were in AA in 1985. The Cards went on to win the AA title that year over a Frank Jacobs lead NCC team.
