I read on here recently where someone said the A.P. uses a drop down box for their voting in the football polls each week. This just in....IT'S NOT WORKING!

 

Looking through the polls this week, Fulton County got four votes in the 1A poll. That 56-8 loss to Mayfield must have resonated with some voters across the state. Fulton County is 2-4. I'm sure they meant Fulton City, who was tied with Pikeville for #6 this week. The Fulton County votes cost them a #5 ranking.

 

Todd County's 47-7 loss to Owensboro Catholic must be one of the best 40-point losses of all time. It propelled the Rebels to #11 in this week's poll. They got 10 votes -- more than Bardstown. Todd County is 1-6 and beat Muhlenberg North (they of the 30+ game losing streak) for their only win. I'm sure they meant Trigg County, who is right below them. If not, they need to quit voting after downing a fifth of Jim Beam. That may explain the drop in the polls by Trigg, who would have kept their #3 ranking with those ten points. Or maybe some AP voter just sees something in the Rebels everyone else doesn't.

 

Here's this week's rankings. After you pick yourself off the floor from laughing at 1A and 2A, the rest appear OK. Of course, there's always next week.

How can Shelby Valley be ranked all year and not recieve any votes after winning 61-19. Their record is 4-2. I do not understand.

All you need to know is that Brossart got two votes last week. They will be in the Top 10 soon enough in Single A. However, right now, there's no justification for it.

Looks like the Appalachian News Express did not vote...that may be where the SV votes went, and Pikeville.

THE AP football polls are becoming a joke to fans throughout the state and BGP's rankings are becoming more and more credible.

Ok, this poll is horrible, as well. I guess I'm just going to stick with BGPreps poll, because its the only one that is anywhere close. The other polls have Bardstown in the top 5 in 2A and this one doesn't have them in the top 10. Did a road loss to number 1 Danville drop them that far? I'm a Danville fan, but how can this poll have any credibility?

What amazed me last week was that about 10 days after Woodford County thumped Johnson Central on the road, the Jackets were ranked behind Johnson Central in the 5A poll.

It's painfully obvious that a lot of AP voters look at a team's record and ignore things like strength of schedule and how competitive some teams are in games against highly-ranked opponents.

Another thing worth pointing out is that there are not as many Newspapers using the Associated Press anymore with the internet and therefore you are not really getting a full spectrum of voters from across the state who really know the teams in their region so you get name recognition, and as many on here have previously stated the ones that vote only look at teams won-loss record instead of looking who they have played, how they have faired and whether or not there were any significant injuries that resulted in maybe a close loss. If there is going to be a poll from media outlets then it needs to be weighted across the entire state and make the votes public so that everyone can see who somebody voted for and then they can answer why they voted for a particular team or teams. Then they might take a closer look at who they are voting for and more importanly why they are voting for them. I know for myself who works in the media that I would not want to have to vote for a statewide top ten in all the classes because I am not that familiar with all the teams in the state that may not be in my teams class or region.

 

And I am saying this with my team ranked #1 in class A in the AP poll...whether or not they should be there (or that if Beechwood should have fallen after their tough loss against CovCath on the road)...who knows...we will see come late November or December as that is the beauty of high school football...we get to settle it on the field.

Actually most HS polls are a joke ... Most polls even BGP's tend to give HS teams credit for past seasons instead of just ranking them on what they are doing in the current season.

 

No other way to explain teams that are 2-4 or 1-5 in the top 10 you can talk SOS out the ying yang but at some point you have to win games.

 

Compare it to college. Notre Dame has the #2 toughest schedule right now. They'd be in the top 10 of most HS polls because they have had success in the past and have played a tough schedule, nevermind the fact that they have 1 win.

Sorry, but you're wrong. BGP's polls are the most accurate HS poll for the state of Kentucky. The people that vote on these things actually look at the teams and who they have coming back when they make their rankings, there is more than just "previous success" to them.

 

There are many teams though who have had prior success who will continually be in the top 5 of their respective classes, reason being that they are still good year after year. Trinity, St.X, Highlands, Male, Mayfield, Danville, Beechwood. These are teams that almost always end up in the top 5 in their respective classes year after year and deservedly so because they rarely have "down" years.

Exactly the point I was going to make!!

How many of the voters in the AP Poll actually see teams from other parts of the state play! I think a lot of voters just vote for historically good programs...Which in certain cases it does work out that way...

A few years ago, Mayfield was 2-5 at this point in the season against a brutal schedule and actually fell out of the AP poll for a short time. Some people were picking the Cardinals to be unseated by either Murray or Ballard Memorial.

 

I'm guessing mh2365 would have insisted Mayfield, if they had been ranked, was getting credit in such polls because of their tradition.

 

In the end, the voters were way off. Mayfield beat Murray and Ballard handily and got to the state semifinals. The Cardinals led Danville at the start of the fourth quarter, lost 17-10 on a last-minute touchdown and watched Danville win the state title the next week.
