Early in the 2nd Mayfield 6 Fulton City 6 FC doesn't have a placekicker so always goes for 2! Mayfield had their epoint blocked.

How true...we all say what happened last time with Williams...the less he touches the ball the better. Watched practice on Thursday and Simpkins was snapping the ball very accurately...now the big question mark is how will he do after it gets banged around. Will be a key to watch for tonight if the game is tight and we need an all important FG or extra point.

Hopson is a Randy Moss type of player...when Moss was at Minnesota and Oakland...he plays when he wants too and takes a lot of plays off. But like Moss in the past he has the talent to be very good...just not the mentality.

This game if tight could come down to the kicking game in which case Mayfield has a HUGE advantage with senior Tommy McNutt doing the extra points, kickoffs and punting as Fulton City has no kicking game to speak of as they normally have to go for two points conversions on the PAT. In the playoffs field position and putting points on the board plays such a big factor and if you don't have a solid kicking game it will more than likely come back to haunt you in the playoffs.

Don't count out Marshall County as the #2 team outside of Louisville behind Henry Clay. The Marshals have a stud running back in Alan Williams and a very nice change of pace back in Brandon Walker and they can spread you out and either run or pass. And their defense is very good. I see them playing St. X or Manual next week...and while I will not go out on the limb and say they will beat either St. X or Manual...I do think that they can at least give them a good game...especially since it would be at Marshall County.

Don't know why I thought of this on my drive into work this morning...although at 4am just happy to be thinking...but the last times that Mayfield was beaten during the regular season by a district opponent we went on to win the rematch in the playoffs. Of course they were both back in 2A against Ft. Campbell and then again against Webster County. Hope history repeats itself again tonight at Fulton.

Fulton City has two advantages going for them in this contest 1) They will be playing at home in front of what should be the largest crowd ever to witness a Fulton City home football game 2) They know they have beaten Mayfield before this season and feel like they can play and win against the Cards on Friday night Mayfield has these advantages for them: 1) They know they should have won the first meeting...as they ran the ball at will against a 8-9 man front between the 20's but the offense bogged down in red zone resulting in only three points...but Mayfield was at a disadvantage in that game playing with several starters out including their starting QB and having to go with a freshman under center causing Mayfield's offense to be very vanilla. Armstrong is a much different and mobile QB and if Fulton uses their same defensive scheme then Mayfield should be able to put points on the board as we had several open receivers in the first contest but Guhy was not able to move around and get the ball off to them. 2) Mayfield remembers the classless acts by some of the Fulton City fans coming onto the field and spitting and throwing things down on the Cardinal Logo in the middle of the field. They also remember FC running up the score after returning a late interception to the 5-yard line with 1.3 seconds remaining and the score being 30-19...so instead of doing the right thing and either just taking a knee or running a dive play...they do a direct snap in shotgun formation and run a halfback pass for the final score. 3) Mayfield's main problem in the last half of the season has been focus...and with what transpired above in #2...I don't think intensity and focus will be a problem Friday night. It should be a great game...but I will take the Cards to survive and advance for at least one more round next week against probably a very good Frankfort team.

Fields is probably the front runner with Cole a close 2nd. After that the Trinity QB will probably be one of the finalist. The running back from St. X would have been up there if he would have stayed healthy...and even though he was hurt late in the season...Alex Matthews the QB from Shelby County should be another one of the finalists with the numbers he has put up this year for the Rockets.

I understand....you think we are not pulling for a HUGE upset from Trimble County for the same reason...lol. I don't think that will happen...hopefully we will meet next Friday up in Frankfort for the Regional Championship

I feel like that Frankfort wins this game by at least a couple of scores and will be doing some scoreboard watching to see if they will have to travel to Fulton City the day after Thanksgiving or if they will play host to Mayfield that day.

If I weren't calling the Mayfield game would be one I would make the 3-plus hour drive to see...two great programs competing in the 2nd round. Being a Mayfield fan one thing I can promise is this....never, EVER count on the ADS in the playoffs...Coach Harp always has his team come playoff time...just ask Frankfort from last year...and my CARDS. Should be a fun game to watch and best of luck to both teams this week and the rest of the playoffs whichever team makes it to the Regional Finals.

I gotta believe that this week we will see a more intense and physical group of Cards against Fulton City...as this one is a pride game...FC did something before that no other district team had done and win against the Cards in the regular season..albeit without three starters in the lineup. IMO Mayfield wins this game by 2 TD's IF they take care of the ball and do not make the silly penalites. If they don't take care of those things it will be another down to the wire game that could go either way. FC caught the Cards at the right time and the breaks in the game during the regular season...will take the Cards 28-14 Friday night in what should be a loud atmosphere at Fulton's tiny stadium.

Crittenden County played with a lot of heart tonight...both teams played a very physical game...not the prettiest game to watch (or call) but both teams laid it on the line and that is all that you can really ask for. Turning point might have been the controversial call late in the 3rd quarter with Mayfield ahead 17-14 and the ball near the Rockets 30 yard line when Mayfield's running back was tackled, lost the ball and from there confusion rang out on what happened. As Crittenden County fell on the ball but no signal was given as to whether the Mayfield carrier fumbled or was down by contact when the ball came out. The officials debated over 5 minutes on who had the ball and where the ball was spotted. The officials finally talked it over and gave the ball back to Mayfield and the result of the play was a first down. The CARDS went on to score the game winning TD after that. Coach Morris told us on our post game show that what happened was an "inadvertant whistle" on the play. It turned out to be in our favor, but hate it for the Rockets and their team. But the Rockets caught a break of their own on a sack by Mayfield that would have made it 4th and 15 the officials called Mayfield for a celebration penalty (which unless something was said was a bad call by a crew that had done a pretty good job up to that point.) The Rockets got the automatic first down and proceeded to score to cut the lead to 24-21. Mayfield recovered the onside kick with 2:55 remaining and the Cards from there ran out the clock. J.D Gray played with a lot of heart for the Rockets at QB and the Sorina kid at RB is a heck of a player. Keep your heads up Rockets you will be a force next year...and for the Cards...great job of bouncing back and finally coming out with the win. Let's take the next two days off to recouperate and then get ready for Fulton City on Monday. Congrats to both teams on a hard fought and classy game between two good programs!!!
