The sophomore class at Trinity is ridiculous.

I was told there was nifty kickoff return by Withrow with some trickery that led to a quick score and then Holmes fumbled the kickoff, and Withrow scored quickly to bump the game up to three scores in a matter of seconds. Holmes has been without 3 key starters the last two weeks and that has cut down on some of their explosiveness on offense and has hurt their defense as well. From what I was told they have cut back on transplanting bermuda in the middle of the field, due to cost. Then they had a caretaking problem that led to the middle of the field just dying out. There was not much grass in the middle of the field to start with at the beginning of the season. Add a drought along with Holy Cross using the field for free, I believe, and peewee games and you are looking at a goat ranch. Still what Coach Lickert has been able to do at Holmes has been impressive.

Pretty much all of Lloyd's sports programs have declined over the years. It doesn't seem like they care. Might #23 be that freshman running back...Scruggs is the name I think.

They hired Scott Calcaterra who teaches at Holmes and was an assistant coach for the varsity boys team at Seven Hills, I believe.

Where do Mitchell's parents reside right now? Ft. Thomas or Florence? If it is Florence, I think that is all you need to know. They moved to get him into Highlands to play football and used their quasi-move to justify eligibility, while still owning their home in Florence, under the presumption that it was being sold to another person (oldest son, I believe). Once the kid moved on to college they moved back into their old home and out of Ft. Thomas/Highland Heights home. The act is done...use a temporary move to gain eligibility while holding onto original home with the idea of returning once the student had graduated from Highlands. I think it becomes quite obvious that this is the case, if indeed the Mitchell's are back in the their original home in Florence. Not meaning to disparage the kid or family, because any parent would want to do what's right for their child, and that includes extra-curriculars and what they may see as a benefit for their child. This case has been quite fascinating. It seems like the hatchet was buried but the handle was left sticking out. Conspiracy theories abound, mine included. With that being said, Mitchell has done well for himself and achieved heights that many didn't think that were attainable in being a high draft pick by the Raiders and he should be applauded for that. Highlands keeps on winning and Mike Mitchell is making decent jack and the rest of us can just pick through this asteroid field.

Why was Hutchinson let go? He had a couple of decent seasons. The 11th is a monster region. I think it takes time and schools in the 11th need to give coaches time to develop their systems.

Very nice hire for Mercer County. This is a very underrated coaching position in the state.

I see what you are saying, but you throw the school under the bus. The same could be said about Cincinnati Aiken, Western Hills, Woodward, Taft, and look at some of the Louisville schools like Western, Shawnee, Central, Lexington Bryan Station and on and on. I would think these schools do everything they can to give students the opportunity to go to post secondary schools. Here is a kid who I have seen play a few times with some ability and he is getting to play basketball at the post secondary level. He should be applauded, and looking to cast blame when you likely do not have any working knowledge of what public schools do intervention wise is a cheap shot.

:confused::confused::confused: So it is the schools fault that these kids have many of the same issues that others have in inner city schools across the country? Do you know what support systems these schools have for students that struggle academically? Do you know all the interventions that schools use at their disposal to help students that struggle academically and socially? Do you know of the mentoring systems and outside agencies that come in to help students? Do you know of the relationships between the schools and partnerships with businesses and other social agencies in order to help students succeed? Do you know the curriculum's offered at these schools which in many places are very rigorous and more rigorous than most private institutions in the state? Do you know that it may just be a victory to at least give a student the option to continue an education beyond high school, be it at a 4 year or 2 year institution, and without the help of the school, a child will be lost once they exit high school, if they make it that far? Private institutions are an excellent choice, but they select who they want, they do not have to accept everyone. Public schools do not have that option and I seriously doubt (based on your post) you understand the issues students and schools face. In fact, I say you don't know. I applaud any student who gets the opportunity to continue their education and play sports as well. I see that as a victory, and many unfortunately don't get that opportunity. It is a two-way street and some students drive it more easily than others, and some have trouble navigating it. Props to this kid for getting the opportunity to continue his academics.

Hickey may be the best point guard in the state.

1) Not sure about this one. 2) Yes the O'Conner's complained... 3) Not sure, there are bigger issues at Scott than who coaches basketball. The O'Conner's are the ringleaders in this circus. He has more support than that of the AD. Then again, Scott has more issues they need to tackle than this. I believe, the highest dropout rate of the county schools....known as the party school...issues with things I can't talk about or they would be a rule violation...worst climate and culture than any of the county schools.

Carr never interviewed at Highlands.

Surprise...surprise, if this is coming from the administration of Scott HS. You have one coach who holds his kids accountable and has instilled toughness into a program that has been long known for its softness and indifference to defense. Here is an individual who expects things to be done and done the right way and expects effort....essentially he has high expectations for his players and holds them accountable, something evidently the school itself does not if you would look at their school report card compared to the other two schools in the Kenton County School District. He has been successful, the Eagle program is attracting more kids from the middle school feeder programs than ever before. That is an attribute to Coach Carr. These kids surely are not going to Scott to play football, so they are attracted to the Eagle Basketball program. Has this ever happened before? Highly unlikely. There is no other reason for these kids to matriculate to Scott academically or athletically when compared to the other high schools in the district. He must be doing something right. Scott hoops has been fairly successful since Coach Carr has assumed the position and are arguably the 3rd best program in the region and are not too far from the top, as evidenced by their battles with GRC over the last few years. Sad to see people caving to a couple parents who don't think Johnny is being treated fairly and sheltering them. Coach Carr's record speaks for itself.

Princeton is pretty good gang. I think many of you are selling them short. They play very good defense. They pressure the ball and were excellent in help defense. Holmes on offense, runs a little of everything. A lot of it is simple motion. It is not flex or anything like that, which has more structure. They will run some passing game with a bunch of cutters. Heck some of it looks like the dribble-drive. Another thing, it makes them difficult to scout. Princeton was cutting off a lot of their drives, and collapsed hard in the paint. I give Princeton a lot of credit. Holmes played very hard a came up a little short. Entertaining game to watch and a pretty nice crowd for a 6 o'clock tip.

Give this team some time... We are still in December and Holmes has played a pretty solid schedule. They are still a work in progress. They lost three key contributors from last year's team and are trying to build some depth off the bench. If you are going to play for David Henley, you are going to have to play hard all the time and defend. On offense, things run much smoother when players are looking out for each other and moving the ball around and taking good shots. A few players are working into different roles and things will start clicking. It is really tough to question Coach Henley and staff particularly when they are sporting some hardware on their ring finger.

I'm guessing the last one only. In a high school game a kid can stand in the lane longer than 3 seconds easy without a call when he doesnt have the ball. Reason, the opposite official can be watching the paint then the ball would swing to his side and he has priority of watching the ball, while opposite official can then begin to count. "Three Seconds" is akin to the "Balk" in baseball....even "Over and Back".

I would say it is a three team race and has been so from the start of the season. Holmes, Highlands, and Boone Co.

There was a pretty nice crowd on hand for this game. I thought Newport played fairly well through three quarters. This is easily the best team they have had in quite a few years. I was impressed with #33. Sure he was jawing but it was going both ways. He is a decent little post player who was not afraid to force contact and finished better than any of the other post players for Newport. The kid from Cincinnati has some potential and is athletic enough to give teams problems. Newport has enough to give NCC and Highlands trouble because they have a little but of everything to be a good team. What they do not have is depth. I think they can only go 6 deep. Newport missed a few uncontested layups early, but hung in there. I dont think Holmes slowed it down in the first half, but turned the ball over a little too much and settled for too many perimeter shots. Add to it they didn't get into transition as much. In the second half they were able to get out and go and Newport wore down and were not contesting nearly as well on the boards as they did in the first half. Solid overall game for Jeremiah Johnson. Not too many players can get off there feet, as quickly as like he can. Pittman with a solid game, as did Ricardo. There were a few high school coaches there scouting tonight. I saw members of Highlands staff there. Do they play Newport any time soon? How about the kid for Newport who came out in the starting lineups and did one of those jumps where teammates collide in the air? Unfortunately, he got up high, but didnt have his feet under him when he landed and splashed on the court.

Holmes actually tied for the title in 1978...a three way tie with Boone and Campbell County. Boone won the tiebreaker. As far as I can tell, and I'm pretty sure, this is the first outright title for Holmes since 1946. That team went undefeated. They had some solid teams in the early 60's, but they always lost out to Highlands. Look for Holmes to advance.

I did some checking, as I was at my parents house looking through my sisters yearbooks. They didnt win it in 1960, 62, 63, or 64. Usually it was Highlands knocking them off. I am not sure about 1961 though. However, I did uncover some victories over Moeller and Cincy St Xavier. LOL When did the original four classes come into effect? Was it all just the NKAC title?
