Lest we forget, Ryle is known for their lax security at games...see the SK-Ryle football threads from the fall. They want to cast blame elsewhere when it happens in their house under their watch. I didn't see what transpired over the last few seconds, but I was opposite of the benches so I didn't see what led up to it, only Mullins running across floor. Ugly, physcial game as usual at Ryle. Holmes couldn't throw it in the ocean. Holmes seems like they are still trying to fill the void in the loss of Mayfield.

I believe in high school that a "charge" nullifies any made basket, no matter the release point, which is different than the college game.

This thread is ridiculous. Sounds like Johnny didn't get enough playing time, and someone's not happy, so when all else fails, blame the coach, blame the fans for leaving. It sure is easy being a Keyboard Quarterback, when you are calling shots in front of a screen. Bottom line is Coach Steiner is one of the better coaches in the NKY area, and one of the most respected. Just earlier this week, people were lauding his and the players effort for their game against Dixie. It sure is easy to blast away from behind the computer. I can promise you no one is taking this loss harder than the coaching staff at SK. How about this...give a little credit to Scott and their staff led by Coach Carr? Many people have ripped Coach Carr in the past, but he is a dynamite coach. From the sound of it, they were on their game, and SK wasn't. Happens more often than many think in sports, particularly high school sports. If Coach Steiner wants to yank his players for not giving maximum effort, lack of emotion, or lack of effort, then so be it. If you are going to get beat by 20, might as well get beat by 20 with players who will do what's asked. By no means, am I blaming the players, but there are many ways to motivate kids, and some may not be to mom or dad's liking or the fans, but I believe this isn't Coach Steiner's first rodeo, and his team will bounce back. Lastly, the whole SK family would probably be better off without you as a fan. Roll Forum!

I'd pack a zone in and try to force Holmes to make outside shots. However, you are susceptible on the glass against quicker teams out of a zone. Holy Cross tried a little of everything against Holmes. A little halfcourt trap, box and one, 2-3 matchup... One key will be defensive transition for CovCath off misses and makes. Does CovCath shoot the ball from the perimeter any better this season? That has been a weak point for them the last few years. Three point misses from the corner is simply an outlet pass for a fast break. Holmes will need to stop hi-lo feeds and any penetration and dump to blocks. Those are areas I would try to exploit if I were CovCath. Pass the ball in the halfcourt and don't try to dribble it. Should be an entertaining evening. Hope the weather is not too bad.

I have never understood the comparing of scores. Its nonsense and there are too many different variables that go into these games. I like CovCath in this one because I think their size and homecourt will be enough to carry the day. If CovCath tries to dribble through their pressure they will be in trouble. If they space the floor and advance the ball via the pass they will be ok. What defense will CovCath employ versus the Bulldogs?

Wright never had a shot at the Holmes job, so I don't know where you are coming from on this one. From what I understand, Wright likes to throw his name in the hat for a lot of jobs in attempt to get more money and so forth. As for this game, the score is quite shocking.

I think the this Boys and Girls team is the #1 rated team in NYC. They have one kid going to Rutgers and another going to Fordham, and a junior who is drawing a lot of attention.

I would be interested to know who the organizers talked to at Mason County Saturday. It was no one. They just made an assumption. Mason County was always coming, so I don't understand where they "found out" that Mason was coming. Sure, the Male issue threw a wrench into the schedule, but then to make things up is unprofessional. Is it really that great of an event? Based on the crowds I can't see them making that much.

I think that Louisville Moore and Ballard will be the favorites without looking at the brackets. Moore played one of the state favorites Louisville Eastern to the horn, losing by 3.

Bottom line is that the organizers about screwed Mason County over. They had announcement after last game on Saturday night that they wouldn't be playing. How can you do that without talking to anyone from Mason County? Seriously, that is bush league. Then when called on the carpet they had them slated to play at about 3 different times on Sunday?

Mason County will be playing today as of this morning. They never had the intention of backing out from what I was told and that the organizers took it upon themselves to say that they would not be coming, which was news to the folks in Maysvillle. I also heard that the Louisville Male bus broke down on the way to NKU, but based on the false info that was pedaled by the organizers regarding Mason County, I wonder if their bus really did break down. A quick check on Riherds doesnt show Male participating in the Classic at NKU. Interesting. I am into conspiracy theory on that one. I guess Taft, doesn't get to play today?

That's incorrect. The people running the Bluegrass/Buckeye Classic canceled Mason County, Mason didn't cancel anything. Unreal. Simply canceling a team out. I have heard in the past that this event is not run very well but their schedule for tomorrow is wacked.

I did a quick thumb through it, and thought it was pretty well done. It is tough to do. I think Ross Neltner should have been on the list. I think that Beal should have been ahead of Draud. One would have been hard-pressed to find another more exciting player in NKY than Dicky Beal.

The biggest difference in the second half was that Holmes was not scoring, which in part was to Brossart's improved play on the boards. Holmes then was not able to slap on their press. Add to it that Brossart got on a nice little run and hit some shots and were much much better in defensive transition and were able to get back into their typical stingy half court switching man to man defense. Decent opener for both teams.

I think this thread has pretty much run the course. Many on here are taking what a few kids did and making a mountain out of a molehill. SK/Ryle has turned into a nice little rivalry, and Ryle has the bragging rights. I know there seems to be a certain poster or two that gets everyone going, but you can simply choose to ignore that person. One person or a couple of students actions does not represent the majority. I think you could possibly go to any game that has a lot on the line and you will find a few things that students do that makes you scratch your head. Does that dismiss what these kids did as being proper? No, but I think that it should not be blown up to the extent of what this thread has become. A few thoughts from afar: SS you mentioned that Ryle administration would act QUICKLY to remove such classless t-shirts from school property. Well, it was their home game and they are in charge of supervision, so essentially it was there job to do as such, if necessary. If they didn't that is on their administration. From all I have heard, no one was removed from the game, fan wise. I would think that both administrations probably worked together during the week to ensure some sort of order with the game, considering everything that was going on at the Ryle Campus, aside from the game itself. If I understood correctly, there was some Independence officers in attendance to help assist with the crowd control and so forth. People posting here and fanning the flames is not helping much to promote what could become a healthy rivalry. We have to remember that these are kids we are dealing with and many times what a few of them do, makes us scratch our heads but we were all young once. I'm not simply dismissing this, but this is being made out to be a bigger issue than it ought to be. I look forward to a fun and prosperous rivalry between these two schools.

The contract is up in a couple of years for playing at Rupp. Any chance the KHSAA makes a move? As of now the Yum Center is in financial hurt and UL has ownership of dates from November to March...is it possible?

The powers that be can't really think this is a good thing. You have bad teams who wish their season had ended weeks ago and you force them to travel to gosh forsaken places to serve as cannon fodder for home crowds. How is this good? How do you think the supporters of Shawnee feel? Can't even field a team and are in the playoffs. 2-8 teams traveling two hours plus to play playoff games. It is simply an abomination. Play an 8-9 game regular season schedule and let everyone in. Just euthanize the system please.

The refs didn't decide the game. West Jessamine won the game. They took advantage of the opportunities presented to them and Holmes did not. Simple as that. Holmes played poorly in the first half up until the INT that was run back for a TD. You simply can't have turnovers in the redzone and have one of those result in a touchdown. I heard there were 27 penalties called in the game. Unreal. There was no rhythm to the game with all the stoppages and the refs were slow in deliberation on practically all of them. The spots were iffy all night and it took them forever to spot the ball. They wouldn't ask for measurements on some spots and they called for one when it WJ easily had the first down by more than a yard. The game didn't end until around 10:30... I thought Holmes was hurt when #7 Simpson got hurt. He seems to be one of their better runners between the tackles. Without him most of their money relied on Jensen scrambles. WJ has a solid little team. I think they are looking for some revenge on Lex Cath next week.
