2010 Bluegrass-Buckeye Charity Holiday Classic Lineup

Featured Replies

I received the lineups for this years BBCHC. The event will take place on Saturday, December 11th and Sunday, December 12th at the Bank of Kentucky Center. The game line up is:

Saturday

5:30 Dixie/Colerain

7:00 Holmes/Cincinnati Aiken

8:30 Louisville Male/Cincinnati Taft

Sunday

1:00 Ryle/Oak Hills

2:30 Mason County/Cincinnati Princeton

4:00 Covington Catholic/Cincinnati St. X

What isn't included at least so far is the celebrity game that was a focal point of conversation here last year. Many thought it took away from the final game of the night. I'll confirm, but it looks right now that it is out.

Tri State Internet Sports Radio will be broadcasting some of the games. We'll add these to our broadcast schedule that will be published soon.

Who are the top teams in this tourney? Any info on the out of state teams?

  • Author

As far as the Cincinnati teams go, Oak Hills and Colerain were in it last year. Colerain defeated Simon Kenton last year. Highlands defeated Oak Hills. The Oak Hills Head Coach is on the Board of Directors of the BBCHC. Don't know anything on the other Cincy schools.

I'm going to forward this information on to the director of the site I work for and see if we can bring live video coverage of this event.

Should be some great match ups.

BTW, for those who aren't familiar with this event, the proceeds go to a GREAT cause and I highly recommend everyone attending if you can.

Saturday

5:30 Dixie/Colerain

7:00 Holmes/Cincinnati Aiken

8:30 Louisville Male/Cincinnati Taft

Sunday

1:00 Ryle/Oak Hills

2:30 Mason County/Cincinnati Princeton

4:00 Covington Catholic/Cincinnati St. X

As far as the match ups:

Dixie should handle Colerain. The Cards are very athletic but not typically known as a basketball school.

Holmes v Aiken should be a very good game. Not sure if he transferred to Withrow or not, but Aaron Thomas is a high major prospect for Aiken. 6'5 SG that verballed to Florida State. (I believe it may have been rejected though? Paging Gametime)

Male v Cincy Taft will be one heck of a match up. Athletes EVERYWHERE. Taft trationally has one of the better CPS basketball teams across the river and are very athletic, much like Male. Taft is where the Johnson Brothers attended school their frosh year before coming back to Holmes.

Ryle v Oak Hills will likely be a low scoring game. Both are defensive minded teams that don't wow you but play hard and use fundamental basketball to have success.

Mason Co v Princeton is a toss up. The majority of Princeton's 'big time" players have graduated over the past two years, including Ohio St committ, Jordan Sibert. Princeton is always full of athletes though and they have a very good young coach. Mason Co returns Setty and Gilber to go along with Pawsatt so this should create some interesting match ups.

Covcath v Cincy X should bring a very big crowd considering the student sections that both will bring. Should be a great atmosphere. X usually has some very big kids so it will be interesting to see how Thelen does againt a front court like that.

Can't wait for this event!! Should be two great days of basketball.

BTW, the Aiken-Holmes match up is two years too late, IMO.

What a match up this would have been two years ago when Holmes had the Johnson Brothers and Pittman as juniors when they had a state championship team against Aiken when they had both Chane Behanan and Aaron Thomas as sophomores. Talk about some serious match ups.

Not sure about Dixie " Handling Colerain". They easily handled Simon Kenton last year by at least 20 and they reached the Division I Sweet 16 in the state of Ohio. The Aiken/ Holmes game should be good to see. Aiken has a lot of good players. Taft and Princeton are easily top teams in the Cincinnati area

I don't know names but I know Aiken has a JR guard getting D1 looks as well as a soph that is garnering interest.

Doesn't Taft have 2 brothers at guard that are the sons of the head coach? Supposed to be talented. I wonder if the big football player for Taft (Adolphus something) plays b-ball. 6'5 or so.

Adolphus Washington was Taft's leading scorer last year.

Very nice athlete both on the gridiron and hardwood.

William Moore and Austin Grimes. Both are being courted and have offers from several different MAC schools.

UC, Louisville, Michigan, and Xavier are also showing interest in Moore, according to Mike Dyer of the Enquirer.

I got confirmation today that we (nkysports.com) will be covering these games and providing video coverage of both days.

Not sure if it will be live or not but I'll post when I find out.

Very good news!

If the purpose of this event is to attract a crowd to raise money for a charity, then somebody really blew it with the schools involved. Other than St. X, none of the Cincinnati schools in the event will bring any kind of crowd. Not even friends and family for some of those schools. The Male-Taft game might be played in front of 50 people.

Maybe a lot of NKY casual high school fans will try to catch all the games during the weekend, and that will help the cause, which is certainly a good one.

I agree to an extent.

Princeton and Mason Co will both bring decent crowds. Last year against Holmes, Princeton filled about 3/4 of their side in Holmes' gym. Mason Co has always travelled well.

Bombers and Colonels will both bring the Crazies out and pack their student section.

The Aiken/Holmes game will also draw a decent crowd. Aiken has always brought a decent crowd when they've played Holmes. I believe in 04 when those two played, there was probably 1500 people in the gym for a Saturday afternoon game.

Oak Hills has travelled well the past two years that they were in this event.

Taft/Male, you're probably right.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I would've really liked to see Highlands or Newcath in this event against another GCL school...maybe Elder or Moeller.

And I'll give you Mason County. They travel well, and will bring a nice crowd. I wouldn't expect Princeton to bring many though.

CovCath crazies will be there, but usually in smaller numbers for this event than a regular home game. St. X will bring some people, but again, not as many as they would for a typical regular season game in Ohio.

I figure the Aiken/Holmes game to be pretty empty. Maybe I'm wrong though. Holmes didn't draw too well for many regular season games the last couple years, with great teams. And, I can't imagine Aiken bringing many people. Like you said, I guess we'll have to wait and see on this game.

I guess our assessment of a good crowd differs a bit, because I thought Oak Hills traveled poorly last year. They had an MCI crowd for their game, friends and family only.

I agree the four schools you mention in the last graph would boost attendance, especially if pitted with one another. I'm not knocking any of the schools in the event regarding their ability to play, but if this is about raising money for a good cause, better options could have been found.
