Mason County will be playing today as of this morning. They never had the intention of backing out from what I was told and that the organizers took it upon themselves to say that they would not be coming, which was news to the folks in Maysvillle.

 

WHAT? If this is the case then I know of a handfull of local people who could not make the first game who did not show up today because they just didn't want to see the middle game of Taft Vs Princeton, and didn't want to pay to just watch CCH Vs ST X.

They are missing a good game.

Not a very attractive slate of games to most fans, and a lot of schools with little to no fan base is a bad recipe if you're trying to raise money for charities.

And with all the conjecture about what went on with the Mason County game, and possibly shuffling games around at the last minute, the whole thing sounds kind of shoddy to me.

Not surprising here. None of these school have a very big or good fan base except for CCH and St. X. That game will probably have a bigger crowd than the rest of the games that day combined

You are right about some of these schools but not Mason Co. They have always seemed to have a good base following their team.

I don't think the people who used to run it are totally involved anymore.

I think Sandman hit the nail on the head with the low attendance.

 

The teams in the event are solid teams, but I think some different games would've drawn better crowds.

 

If it were up to me, I would've had the following games:

 

Covcath v Elder

Eastern v Lasalle

Holmes v Princeton

Boone Co v Taft

Dixie v Moeller

Highlands v Glen Este

 

I think all of those would be great match ups that would draw decent crowds. I think the more big name teams that this classic attracts, the better the crowds will be.

 

See the Flyin to the hoop classic that Columbus Northland puts on every year. Now that is a great event to see regardless of who you root for. Ticket prices are a little steep as well.
