  1. Always agendas that outsiders are not privy
  2. Wow! Not an upset but the margin is mind boggling. Boyd baseball (players/coaches) seems to be focused despite the bad publicity.
  3. Tongue in cheek Old Rambler and foot in mouth on the disability. Don't get bent out of shape, you read waaaaaaay too much into the post! Tubby, before you hit the andro, think about the physical side effects. Some things get larger and some things get smaller. Kinda like putting a four cylinder engine in a tank. Good luck to the Rams, seem to be playing well at the right time.
  4. This is totally off the subject but I noticed something humorous. Old Rambler will eclipse TBF in posts sometime today or tomorrow. This could generate the same kind of interest we had in the McGuire/Sosa home run race or Bonds/Babe or Bonds/Aaron. He will surpass Tubby (both Raceland supporters) in less than 3 months (took Tubby 5 years) which could indicate performance enhancing drugs. This performance by Old Rambler begs for BP to look at a tougher drug policy or at least an asterisk next to his name in the record books. His "Raceland Ram" record breaking post will probably fetch six figures on ebay. If the post comes on the same day that the Rams win the regional championship it may get seven figures. Good luck to your Rams the rest of the way! LOL:lol:
  5. Old Rambler 1974 Ramblers went 12-8-1 (tied Morgan 2-2 on May 8), beat Russell twice lost to Greenup Co. 3 times and lost a DH to Paintsville on April 27 (8-1, & 9-4). They did start the season 6-0
  6. I tend to agree with Lucky Eddie about "the truth". It is sometimes a distraction to have seniors on a team when they will not play a primary role. You then have to deal with people complaining about why you are not playing your seniors. The coaches have had 3 years to evaluate the players and the players have had 3 years to impress the coaches. Cutting right now stirs a little controversy but keeping non playing seniors is a headache the whole season. The "cut" is probably not really a shock to any of the players, they probably saw it coming or at least had an idea. Some players could use it as motivation, refuse to give in, and work to improve. Others could complain about fairness, give up the sport and talk for the next 30 years about how they were cheated out of their senior year.
  7. Which Raceland teams were "almost" dominating and lost in the first round of the districts? Most Ram teams go further than expected and I think Vanderhoof has 1 regional title and 2 other appearances in the finals during his tenure.I would guess that Raceland has as many regional appearances as Russell, Greenup, or Fairview during the Vanderhoof years.:sssh:
  8. 2.5 walks/game, I would think that is a pretty impressive number. At least on the low side of average. I think Coach Vanderhoof may need to share a little of the spotlight. Ramsey-mechanics (X's & O's), Hall-feel (rhythm & confidence), Vanderhoof-Hall of Fame!
  9. What % of walks have scored? There is a lot of subjectivity among official score keepers as to what is an error and what is a hit. Some players get the benifit of the doubt more often than others. The official book is kept in the dugout for a lot of teams so the home earned runs go up and the visitors unearned runs go up. Most stats can be manipulated intentially or unintentially to prove a point. How many walks score?
  10. Didn't both of those guys, Ramsey/Hall, get similar instruction early on? Both can be traced back to Steve Hamilton (11 yrs. in majors) at Morehead State. Drew played for Steve and many would suggest that Gavin's learning started with Jody. Jody also played for Steve as a position player and later as a grad asst. pitching coach. There's no doubt that Ramsey's & Hall's approach differ greatly but both have a lot to offer young kids. Sometimes over analysis is as bad as under analysis...I still cannot listen to Harold Reynolds call a game! I prefer Tony Perez, when asked to comment about a good day at the plate, I hitta the balla wella. Lots of ways to skin a cat.
  11. Give me a pitcher that throws strikes and before you know it your defense improves. Walks always seem to score and most hs teams dont's send enough hitters to the plate to beat someone with the sticks. Throw strikes + Don't strikeout + Make the routine plays = a bunch of wins!
  12. It appears that both Carter County schools prefer to hire form within the county
  13. Agreed! A guy throwing 80 with any kind of off speed pitch will strike out a lot of hitters in the spring. If he throws strikes he will win a lot of games.
  14. AJ Slaughter-Shelby Co. Don't know if he was the best but I enjoyed watching him play more than anyone else
  15. Greenbo Lake is the dead sea! Used to be a great bluegill lake until they brought in the grass carp and destroyed all the cover. Has to be better fishing holes in Fleming Co.
  16. Isn't there a roster card for each team that goes to the official scorer? I'm not sure but I thought there was? The score of the game is not that bad because both teams normally play a part in low scores, but leaving a name out of the book on the biggest stage, well that's down right embarassing. The worst part is that Turner is in the rotation and was certain to be in the game. The person that left off the name on the card/or book laid an egg at the state tournament. That's as memorable as the call, "would L.J. Butchsomoly please report to the scorers table, L.J. Butchsomoly". I know it is not spelled correctly but I'm hooked on "fonics" on this one. I would presume that Dodd is not responsible for this mistake?
  17. What exactly is the politics employed by Coach Dodd? The better players play more? The players that do what they are told...stay on the floor more often? The players that improve the chance of winning are in the game? I'm confused. Is Dodd not interested in putting the best product on the floor? Is he not playing the best players? It would be nice if we had a message board for Marathon, AK, prison, hospital, McDonalds so that lay people could do a walk through the establishment and make critical comments about what's going on. The games represent less than 25% of the season and in large part reflect the practice performance of players. Most of us posting on this site are not privy to that information, only second hand which usually has a tilt to it. Firing Dodd statements are a joke but whoever filled out the scorebook at the tourney...that may be another story.
  18. Will Barker guard Owens? I would figure that Fairview would go with a bigger or stronger player (Hutchinson or Stewart) and allow Alex to be a little fresher on offense. May see Rex crack out some zone vs. Boyd which also protects Black from foul trouble. This will be a very good basketball game.
  19. Several players had great seasons but it is hard to argue with Owens. 30 ppg, excellent rebounder, ft'er, fg %, and is, for the most part, responsible for the County rise this season. McDavid, McGowan, and Vanhoose were solid as well but I'll take Owens as poy. :thumb:
  20. Wait a minute buster, don't dog Robbie! "All the way with a red hot poker"
  21. I made no evaluation of officials other than all are not good and should not be doing varsity games. I also referred to bad coaches, bad players, and bad custodians. It is well documented that there is a shortage of officials in the 16th region and there are guys who have no business doing a varsity game sitting on 3 man crews. Players/coaches/parents put in an incredible amount of time and money into high school athletics and deserve the very best in officiating. Again, I'm not saying that these guys are bad guys, and I believe they are doing the best they can but some can not "cut the mustard". For UKCATSFAN this means that you are not gettin' it done! The point of my previous was to point out that the criticism comes with the territory. (for everyone coaches, players etc.) UKCATSFAN, I have officiated many, many games in both baseball and basketball without patting myself on the back on this website.
  22. Everyone knows that it is a tough job and that is why they are paid to do it. The players have a tough job and when they make a mistake someone may yell at them. When a coach makes a mistake someone may yell at them. When the PA makes a mistake someone may yell at them. When the custodian makes a mistake someone may yell at him...do you get the point? 16th region games have turned into a wrestling match and the most common excuse is that we need 3 officials. OK, we do have some very good officials in the 16th but on the ball play is too physical. Bad referees are like bad players, coaches, and custodians...they should not be in position to determine the outcome of a game. Players graduate, coaches get fired, custodians...well they get promoted, and referees move from JV to Varsity regardless of their ability to "cut the mustard". They are all probably good people but there is a lot at stake in high school athletics and criticism comes with the territory...like it or not!
  23. 1. Hoosiers-maybe we could call it Cuba or Paintsville 2. One on One-Robbie Benson/Annette O'Toole 3. Blue Chip-oscar material for Shaq 4. Fastbreak-Gabe Kaplan...what a coach!, Bernard King, and the chick with the ace bandage (Swish) Lots of social issues in this movie but it's a good one How about the 70's basketball show the "White Shadow"
  24. Weddington and Ferguson will be tough match-ups for Russell as is Vanhoose for Elliott. If Elliott shoots 45% or better from the field they will win. Foul trouble and ft disparity will be critical. Can Russell stop the dribble penetration from Elliott? Do they use some zone? Should be a dandy. "Youth" is more a description of inmaturity and not age, in basketball terms, the Elliott freshmen are mature, seasoned, and experienced.
