Good win for Evarts...I'm sure Coach Perry was livid after giving up 40 points. I'm anxious to see Glenn Roberts play...apparently he hits anything that moves.

Roskopf had 186 on 22 carries...a 5 yard TD run in OT, then an INT to seal the win on Cumberland's XP in OT. Let the campaign for first team all-state for Roskopf begin! Maybe the #9 AP ranking for Cumberland was a bit premature...that poll should not come out until week 4, in my opinion.

Middlesboro always has speed and skill, and they may have some teeth this year too...bad news for the rest of the district.

Would love to have watched this one.

Tommy Hensley...another good Cawood RB. No offense to David, but he was a bit older than me.

I know this...assistant coaches both at Evarts and Cumberland have told me they expect very good seasons this year.

Bell by a lot.

Prediction: Cawood may start slow but will finish with a flurry in the school's last season...I foresee a 5-5 or 6-4 regular season with a playoff win for the first time in 14 years before a loss in the second round (district runner-up).

I like Breathitt to show they are a legitimate contender for a state title.

#2 is Allen Hensley...a very good middle school player a few years ago. He ran for 1,000 yards as a 6th grade tailback in 2002 if my math is correct. He has sat out of football though for a couple of years. He has returned much bigger and stronger. I believe he is a junior if my math is correct.

For the record, I graduated in 87 (it all seems cloudy now 20 years later), but the fall of 86 was my senior football season. Cawood had Hensley, Henson, Shackleford, Burke, etc., and Cumberland had Maggard, Evans, Washington, etc. There seemed to be athletes galore county-wide.
