OK. I searched for the word "mafia" and the oldest reference that I could find (regarding CovCath) was on 10-29-2008, by a poster named Tom Petty. Perhaps the search function does not go back far enough, although I know it went to at least 2006. I'm intrigued. Maybe I can do a report on the Park Hills Mafia. If I did though, I doubt it would be non-fiction- probably would be considered a work of fantasy. :thumb:

No idea but Bill was an assistant coach for the freshman team at CovCath as little as 5 years ago.

And it worked. :lol: I literally have no idea what the Park Hills Mafia is, and I don't even know what the purpose is of bringing it up. I guess if the point is to rile up CovCath posters, then it has worked a little because I have devoted a few posts to it.

Does anyone have a map of KY divided up by regions? That would be interesting to look at.

The thing that worries me most about Elliott County is their tendency to rely on the 3's even when they aren't dropping and when a team does not press against them. In the two games I watched T. Knipp was the only one willing to take it to the basket when the 3's weren't falling. If he continues to do so, they certainly are one of the top 4 or 5 teams to win it all.

I'm not implying anything, I was just wondering.

FWIW, D3 schools can't give out athletic scholarships, but the fact that he got money at Centre for academics is probably more impressive :thumb:

Which regions are East and West Jessamine in? They are closer to downtown Lexington than Scott County.

I liked him when we was at CovCath, but I never had him as a teacher and I have heard mixed emotions about from those who did. Hopefully he has become a better teacher, because that is all that matters.

A former CovCath assistant coach (under Lynn Ray) and teacher for a few years. Left to coach at Hamilton-Badin in OHIO.

When I was in 8th grade, Holmes killed us with Duran Jefferson, Nate, and Ryan Luster. They then moved them up to JV and we (St. Pius) ended up winning the public school tourney that year against Holmes (without their best players) out at Sharp middle school in Pendleton County.

From the little of Elliott that I have watched (vs. Ballard and 2nd half v. Mason), they go in little stretches where they shoot 3's too quickly. Elliott has an excellent transition offense, but when the other team gets back, at certain times they don't look inside. The encouraging thing was during the two games, T. Knipp would take notice and take it inside, drawing a foul and (seemigly) jump starting Elliott's offense again.

How can a Highlands football and Holmes basketball fan not be a huge CovCath fan? Just messing around, Eta....

:thumb: I'll agree with that. But going to rim isn't "CovCath basketball". It's all about man-to-man defense, and everyone standing around watching one player on offense. Hasn't changed in a while :ohbrother:

To be honest, you could be talking about TJ, who is a good friend of mine. You have to take the bad with good, and it is more than worth it for players of their caliber. Back in 2007 when TJ was out with a groin injury we took #1 in the state down to the wire. With him, we didn't play well enough as a team to beat them, but without him there was not enough talent. Same holds true for Luke. Without Luke, this team would be in big, big trouble.

I'm going to disagree with you. First of all, as a fellow Holmes fan posted a few weeks ago "if an IF was a 5th, we'd all be drunk" :lol: Getting all those players on the court at the same time was a huge IF. And personally, I think the fact that CCH played Holmes so close in 2007 is all the more proof that they could have beaten them at full strength in 2006. The 2007 CovCath team lost Tierney, Noll, Young, and Landrum (and me :lol:) and still beat them 3 times in 2007. Yes, the wins were over incomplete Holmes teams, but relative to 2006, CovCath would be "incomplete" as well. So I submit that it is inaccurate to say that, with Rice, it would have been a "good chance". And, just for fun, keep in mind that that 2006 Holmes team (even though they lost districts) wound up with a better draw for the region then CovCath (since CCH had to play Highlands in the semi-finals)

Define very good chance.... Because in 2006 & 2007, with or without Rice, CovCath won 4 out of their 6 matchups, and Holmes lost to Dixie in region in 2006, let alone beating CovCath or Highlands in region that year.
