From talking to some former players, they say they would NOT think Wirth would be a good coach. I never thought he was bad, but I never played or had him for class. I hope it is a alum.

I think he had a few points and a few turnovers. Same as every player last night other than Ives and Maile.

He is a former Henley assistant right? I think one of the best measures of a coach is not only how their players do, but also how their former assistants do when they come into their own (see Tony Dungy & the NFL). While this can be difficult to see & gauge at the high school level, Sullivan's success could be testimony to not only his own ability but Henley's as well.

Well, Lafayette beat CovCath, but lost to MC by 20+. On the other hand Male beat Montgomery by 30, but Male only beat Tates Creek by 2, who only beat CovCath by 8. So that means that CovCath should win by 20, right? :D:D:D

Not a clue. Tates Creek had no true big guy (at least over 6"3) but CovCath still got dominated on some trips down the floor.....

They got nothing. The defensive rebounding was awful, interior passing was nonexistent, and I don't think the Colonels scored more than 6 inside-the-paint/non-Maile points. Final from the opening (boys) game of the Toyota Classic. Colonels tried to make runs in the 3rd and 4th quarters but well-timed timeouts ended them both. I was impressed by Tates Creek's Marcellus Barkdale (who I believe is just a sophomore). He is tough down low, if he can grow a few inches and develop some back to the basket moves he could be a good player. Also, Kelwin Culyer got up on a nice fast break dunk. As for the Colonels, lackadaisical play plagued them the whole game. They don't rebound and don't get back on defense. It looks like no one wants to be there. I don't know if the fact that the players stand around on offense and watch Luke is a symptom of Luke, or if the fact that Luke shoots so much is a symptom of virtually no off the ball movement- I am leaning towards the latter. Ives has the ability to hit the open shots but he disappears- he was nowhere to be found during the 1st half. Commodores led by Barkdale with 17 points and 8 rebounds, & Ryan Fucci with 13 points on 60% shooting. Colonels led by an all-around performance from Maile with 22 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Ives had 16 points, going 4-7 from three. I have the whole box score if anyone wants any more stats....

Holmes will win, but this is probably a good game for Holmes to see a team that can at least come close to matching their athleticism. This way, if they were to meet a team such as Ballard who may actually come close to matching their speed and athleticism in the Sweet 16, they will have seen it before.

I can't disagree with that. But that's a political issue- and why I support school vouchers.

There are obvious inadequacies in the public school system- some districts have open enrollment, some don't. Some parents get more bang for their buck (with multiple kids in the schools, as you said) while some child-less taxpayers are paying for something with no (direct) return from them. However, the fact remains that home-schooled kids are not using resources that otherwise would have been used in the schools- saving the school district money. Furthermore, the reason why the parent is homeschooling their child is presumedly because they do not like what the school district is doing. The kid should not be penalized for the mistakes of others.

If the public school district has failed in terms of academics, why should the kid be penalized? It is a tragedy enough that low-income parents have no other choices that schools that don't accurately reflect what they would like their kids to learn. I don't understand why the kids deserved to be penalized for the failures of others.

Absolutely yes.

I don't think TheOldGuy or anyone meant to imply that no one else is that way- he (we) was just saying that, contrary to public opinion, sports take a backseat to other things at CovCath- and therefore we would always say that retreat is more important than sports, and support anyone who had to miss a sporting event. :thumb:

FWIW, unless policy has changed since 2007, this is not true. But retreat was an awesome experience- and I second what you said about the role that sports play at CovCath.

Probably doesn't matter anymore, but, for plenty of us CovCath supporters, W's and L's were less of a factor.

Well, from what I gathered above, Pendelton would be the 4th 4A team in the district, which really is not that far. But whether or not the two move down, someone is going to have to travel a lot (either Holmes or Scott and Dixie)

Interesting thought that if Holmes moves down, CovCath and Highlands can as well.

Good to hear Thelen coming into his own. I am quite surprised that Machinot is scoring at ease but having problems with other aspects; over the years, it seemed that his scoring was his biggest problem (largely due to his actual biggest problem, size). Unfortunate about the Sorrell incident- I hear it was very minor and I do not know why he seemed to be picked on. But, as we know, Coach Listerman could do no wrong, so there must be something more...

I find it all too ironic that in an attempt to criticize the imagined "Park Hills Mafia" and just in general disagree with what CovCath's administration has done, we have been relegated to insulting the ability of the high school aged players.

When people say "Park Hills Mafia" are they serious? I thought it was just a joke. Some people must be very disullusioned if they think that there really is one.

Eta, I expect CovCath to improve but I don't see that much happening...
