Blue Magic Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Saw this thread for a different region thought it'd be interesting to see what people say. 1. Henley - Holmes 2. Faust - St. Henry 3. Listerman - CovCath 4. McQueary - Boone County 5. Mullins - Ryle Just to start things ^^^^
Theoldman12 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 (edited) I'd put Goetz from Holy Cross in there over Mullins and McQueary. Edited January 21, 2009 by Theoldman12
mexitucky Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Henley doesn't get the credit that he deserves b/c of the talent that he has. Last year's team was very disciplined defensively and followed his offensive game plan.
Handy Manny Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Shumate at Beechwood Hicks at Conner Goetz at Holy Cross Faust at St. Henry Chevalier at Dixie
Theoldman12 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Shumate at Beechwood Hicks at Conner Goetz at Holy Cross Faust at St. Henry Carr at Scott I had forgotten about Hicks and Carr has done a nice job the last two years.
Handy Manny Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I had forgotten about Hicks and Carr has done a nice job the last two years. Had to change my post. Carr is in the 10th. region, but still a great coach.

cch5432 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Faust, Henley, and Hicks need to be on any list.
Jtown Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Holmes is going to continue to get the best players from NKY and some players from Cincinnati. Not saying that Henley recruits because I know he doesn't all I'm saying is that everyone wants to go to Holmes because year after year they have a very good chance of winning the state tournament. IMO Henley only wins because of the great players that go to Holmes.

You don't see that stuff in pick up games or down at the street court... And half of defense is knowing where you are supposed to be and effort... I don't think he's as good a coach as Faust but he is a good coach...
Flotsam Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Henley - Holmes Listerman - Cov.Cath. Schlarman - the school from Ft. Thomas Faust - St. Henry Hicks - Conner

I agree that there is plenty of talent in Covington, but that is not the only reason Henley keeps winning 9th region championships. He pushes you to play lock down defense and work the ball for good looks. Once again the Johnson brothers are from Covington, not Cincinnati. I have never seen Holmes get a player from Cincinnati since I've been watching them and that goes back to 89. I think you would be hard pressed to find one. Holmes talent comes from the inner city of Covington. If you look futher into this you will see more kids from Holmes feeder system leave for Cincinnati. I have two relatives that left to play in Ohio because of football. This has been happening to Newport and Holmes every since I could remember.
StickerMann Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Faust (St. Henry)--Consistants does more with less than most of the region. Henley (Holmes)--Granted has top talent every year, but seems to keep them playing hard; and showing some discipline lately. Shumate (Beechwood)--Built a good team at a "A" football school, and looks like he might turn it into a program? Schlarman (Highlands)--Willie will always have well disciplined teams, and can contend at another football school. Goetz (Holy Cross)/Hicks (Conner)--Goetz wins last year with "O" and this year with "D" showing he can adjust to swings in personnel. Hicks (had to have someone from BC) and he always seems to pull some upsets and send out teams that overachieve. Don't see Listerman any more in the top 5, and McQuaery always seems to be waiting for next year?? If this were an NKY poll, I'd have struggled to not inlcude Scott's Carr and Brossart's Code, with Campbell's Code in the mix!!
NKYBOY1487 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Henley - Holmes Listerman - Cov.Cath. Schlarman - the school from Ft. Thomas Faust - St. Henry Hicks - Conner Finally someone got it right. Im not saying this is the order I think but these are the best 5 coaches in the 9th. 1. Faust- As everyone seems to say "does more with less every year". Knows the X's and O's as well as anyone and is a great teacher of the game and of life. Im kinda biased here. 2. Henley-Has the most talent but gets his kids to play hard. Teaches Defense. Gets his kids to play to the best of there ability. Puts up with a lot of outside stuff from fans, players, parents, and criticism that most coaches don't have to deal with. 3. Hicks-I've been saying it since I saw him coach in 2005 regionals against CovCath, Jim Hicks is darn good coach. Most under rated. Even when his teams are bad, they are dangerous. I believe he had a team that won like 2 regional games a few years back and they somehow finished runner up in a tough 33rd district and played well in the regional. Great motivator and great guy. 4. Schlarman-Never have I seen a coach that teaches defense as well as Willie. He always has a well disciplined team that can defend. When he has some good offensive players, his teams are very very dangerous. 5. Listerman-A great man and a great coach. He's from the nest of Ken Sheilds. He knows the game and is a great teacher. He is passionate and knows how to work the officials, ALOT. He has great talent year in and year out but he still manages to get his kids to work hard. People complain this year over this CovCath team. Lets remember this is the first down yr for CovCath since 2003.
NKYBOY1487 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I'd put Goetz from Holy Cross in there over Mullins and McQueary. Goetz has done nothing to prove he is a top 5 coach. From what I've seen in the past he is struggling at HC.
