Holmes moving to 4A?

Recommended Posts

I have not heard anything official, but it looks like Holmes will be moving down into the 4A classification.

I don't think the Board of Control has met on the matter, but the process has moved along and has been granted approval by the state football committee, which typically follows the the recommendation of the football committee.

It is a fantastic move for the program, and it gets them on a more equitable footing.

From what I understand Coach Lickert did all of the research and preparation for the proposal, and it looks like it will become reality.

Before the proposal, Holmes was easily the smallest 5A school aside from Highlands who is obviously playing up. Matter of fact, from what I have been told, even with the move to the 4A, there are over 20+ schools with higher enrollments than Holmes.

They would fall into the district with Harrison County, Franklin County, Pendleton County and Bourbon County.

The future has seemingly become much brighter for Coach Lickert and the Bulldog program.

I heard that in order to request a change your school had to have a 12% drop in enrollment.

In two years this Dogs team could be pretty good. Good sophomore class. Seems like they had a strong freshman class this year as well.

Why compete with HHS and CCH if your program is not there yet? Wins beget enthusiasm which begets more kids coming out which hopefully begets a better program.

I actually got wind on this back in late December but didn't want to post anything because it wasn't official yet.

I agree it will be a good move for the Holmes program and will really help turn things around and possibly get more kids out.

I understand the move from a competetion aspect but I don't from the travel aspect. Thats gonna mean alot of bus time to district games.

That's the only downfall to the move. But this is a much better move for not only the program but also the KIDS, which makes the travel aspect not that bad.

Honestly, Holmes just isn't in a state right now to be able to compete with Dixie, Highlands, and Covcath year in and year out.

One thing I heard in Dec was that the enrollment numbers for Holmes was including the Jr High. So the 8th graders were being counted as part of the HS. Not sure how true that is but if it is/was the case then it is not fair. Going down to 4A changes things a good bit for Holmes.

How will this affect next season's scheduling. Obviously Holmes would have to drop some of the teams they currently have scheduled and pick up their new district opponents. Does this mean Highlands will have to play Ryle 3 times?
