Log Mountain Boy Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 I was just thinking from Northern Ky. Simon Kenton is in the 8th region. Cov. Scott and Campbell Co. are in the 10th region and everyone else is in the 9th region. The Louisville area is in 2 different regions. But then the entire greater Lexington area (with the exception of Clark Co.) is in the 11th region. In atleast the last 3 years no city school from Lexington has been represented in the Sweet 16.
ColonelMike Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Lexington is all together because there are fewer schools in Lexington than in Louisville or the NKY area...
gchs_uk9 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Lexington is all together because there are fewer schools in Lexington than in Louisville or the NKY area... Numbers are the main reason. -Five publics and three privates in Fayette County. -What is "greater" Lexington? Scott County and Madison Central are in the 11th. Bourbon is the 10th. Jessamine is the 12th. It seems pretty well distributed.
jahearme Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Well, let's look at the "greater Lexington area." All Fayette Co. schools are in the 11th. Makes sense to me. When you get into surrounding counties, it changes. For example, both Jessamine Co. schools are in the 12th. Both schools in Bourbon Co. are in the 10th. All Madison Co. schools are in the 11th. I don't know if there is a method to the madness, but I think the current regional alignments are about as good as you can do as far as proximity.

Until you take into account that the three Frankfort schools and Woodford County are all geographically closer to the 8th, but are in fact included in the 11th region.

I would like to see them work it out where they would split the area up. I'd like to see it realigned. I would guess that the population in the 11th region is more than the 13th,14th, 15th and 16th regions combined. It just seems a little political to me that from northern ky alone there is 3 is teams in 3 different regions.
Jim Schue Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Until you take into account that the three Frankfort schools and Woodford County are all geographically closer to the 8th, but are in fact included in the 11th region. The fact that most 8th Region schools have to pass through Frankfort on the way to Anderson County tells me that the Frankfort schools should definitely be in the 8th. Or, AC should be in the 5th or 12th.

Because that's what it would be if they had never shipped out the other schools to the 8th and 10th.
Jim Schue Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 I don't think it has anything to do with population. Yup. It's all about trying to balance the regions to where there are 16 teams per. As a result, you end up with regions like the 14th, 15th and 16th, where the overwhelming majority of the schools also participate in the All A Classic.
ColonelMike Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Until you take into account that the three Frankfort schools and Woodford County are all geographically closer to the 8th, but are in fact included in the 11th region. I've always felt that the Franklin County schools should be in the 8th - I understand that they were to be moved to the 8th in the next-to-last draft of the last re-alignment. Woodford is as closer to more 11th region schools than it is to the bulk of the 8th Region. Moving Woodford doesn't make a lot of sense, really...

I think the biggest loser in the recent alignment has been the Lexington city schools. I just don't understand why in northern Ky there is schools in 3 different regions!
Mr.Fundamental Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 I think that North Laurel and South Laurel need to be in same region, say the 12th?

What can't you grasp about the large number of schools in NKY???
