Where did the new school (Cooper I think) get put? What district?

St Henry was moved to the 34th and Cooper was put in that spot in the 33rd...

It is funny how people compare Lexington to Northern Kentucky. Don't people realize Northern Kentucky is 3 different counties (Kenton, Boone, and Campbell). Lexington is 1 county!

They have won the 32nd every year since they got in it, I'd say that's a good benefit.

I don't think the 12th region schools wanted the Laurels out near as much as the 45th and 46th district was tired of driving through Rockcastle County (13th Region) to get to North and South Laurel.

 

But losing the Laurels and picking up Rockcastle and the Jessamines makes sense.

 

Somerset, Pulaski Co. and Southwestern busted their collective fannies getting NL and SL shipped out, so I'm going to have to part with you on that one.

The thing with NKY that some don't realize is Kenton Co is one of the biggest counties in the state, if I'm not mistaken. Not only is it one of the biggest counties in the state, but the majority of the county is city, which means more schools and people. Boone County is in the same boat. Eventually, with the rapid growth of Union, Burlington, and Hebron, you'll see another school built within the next 10-15 years which will lead to more schools being put in other regions to balance out the numbers.

 

Scott being in the 10th region really makes no sense to me considering they're they're within a 10 mile radius of practically every school in the 9th, but I can understand teams like Campbell and Brossart being in the 10th. SK being in the 8th region also makes a lot of sense considering how far out they are. With NKY being so big and growing more rapidly than any other part of the state (besides maybe around lexington), you're going to continually see teams from the 9th put in other regions.

 

Ryle could very well end up being the next school out of the 9th considering their location.

You will see the same thing happen in Scott County ultimately. They have a site, a technical school is on the way, and ultimately there will be another high school in Scott Co I would guess in that same time frame.

They are in the same region, the 13th. They're just in different districts, which to me makes absolutely no sense.

Okay, let me rephrase...the northern schools (45/46) in the 12th Region didn't really create much of a fuss over the Laurels.

Fan, as much as I want to agree with you, rumor around Georgetown is there is not going to be another HS. The main reason is Admin not wanting to disrupt sports programs. They won't be able to put the same caliber teams if they have to split the county up.

So how does Simon Kenton get into the 8th region?

 

It seems like a lot of favors being done if you ask me. Its like Pineville. They moved them out of Bell Co's district when Harlan schools have to go through Pineville's city limits to get to Bell Co. and Middlesboro HS. At that time (unlike this year) Bell's program was much stronger than Knox Central and the other teams in that district. And guess what. A Pineville administator is on the Board of Controls. The alighnment IMO is becoming a political move. The 12th region wanted the Laurel Co. schools out of the region. Mission accomplished. Thats my opinion.

I think the Laurel schools fit in well with the 13th region, though. It's only around a 20 minute drive from London to Clay County High. Corbin is 12 miles away. The Knox and Whitley schools are just down the road.

 

However, Rockcastle did not want to be moved from the 13th to the 12th. I was at the meeting about it at the KHSAA building in Lexington when they had a question and answer session about the then proposed moves, and the Rock officials were very vocal about not wanting to be moved.

And I imagine when that happens, you'll see Scott Co decline athletically, just like Boone Co and Conner did when Ryle was built and Ryle will with Cooper being built.

They might not have a choice though. A school can only become so big before the county has to do something. You can't continue to just add on to the old high school to make room for more students. Eventually, you're going to have to take that money and just invest in a new site and school. Whether the SC faithful and admin want to realize it and face it, eventually a change is going to occur.

They could if all of the future transfers show up at one school.

Yes, SK was a tremendous team when the re-alignment happened...but they probably won't even get out of the district this year. I don't expect to see the Pioneers in New Castle, although they're a young team and could hit their stride at the right time and surprise...

 

In their three years in the 8th, SK lost in the SFs, the finals, and last year in the first round.

 

I'm not saying there's no basis for any of the alignment conspiracy theories...but in this case, I doubt it. From what I know of SK, they weren't very happy about the move.

 

You completely forgot about Walton-Verona, which is also in NKY... Walton-Verona has been in the 8th for decades...

Scott County is over 2,000 enrollment now, and I have talked to some people from there who feel a split is the best course of action.

Which regions are East and West Jessamine in? They are closer to downtown Lexington than Scott County.
