Which regions are East and West Jessamine in? They are closer to downtown Lexington than Scott County.

I've always felt that the Franklin County schools should be in the 8th - I understand that they were to be moved to the 8th in the next-to-last draft of the last re-alignment.

 

Woodford is as closer to more 11th region schools than it is to the bulk of the 8th Region. Moving Woodford doesn't make a lot of sense, really...

 

I agree about Woodford. I would guess it is roughly equidistant to Lexington/Frankfort/Lawrenceburg.

There are too many NKY schools for 1 region, and not enough for 2...

I think when all the schools combine in the 2nd or third region (not sure which), the KHSAA needs to redistrict the whole state and do away with three team districts. I think the schools combining are the Muhlenberg's and Reidland and Heath maybe.

It seems like a lot of favors being done if you ask me. Its like Pineville. They moved them out of Bell Co's district when Harlan schools have to go through Pineville's city limits to get to Bell Co. and Middlesboro HS. At that time (unlike this year) Bell's program was much stronger than Knox Central and the other teams in that district. And guess what. A Pineville administator is on the Board of Controls. The alighnment IMO is becoming a political move. The 12th region wanted the Laurel Co. schools out of the region. Mission accomplished. Thats my opinion.

I don't think the 12th region schools wanted the Laurels out near as much as the 45th and 46th district was tired of driving through Rockcastle County (13th Region) to get to North and South Laurel.

 

But losing the Laurels and picking up Rockcastle and the Jessamines makes sense.

I would drive to Henry County every year if my team made the regional. They are in a much weaker district in the 8th than if they were in the 9th.

You're just not getting what GT, Jim and others are trying to explain.

 

It's very simple, for years the 9th had the largest number of high schools in a region, in the mid 20's, If I recall we had a couple of 6 team districts, while other regions had just 16 or 17 teams and some actually had 3 teams in district. This wasn't fare so the KHSAA realigned.

 

Simon Kenton and Walton went to the 8th, while I believe Scott, Calvary, Campbell Co, Brossart and Silver Grove went to the 10th.

 

With the addition of a few schools, the 9th region has again become the largest region in number of schools, if you add the ones that were places in other regions, you would have a 9th region with about 30 teams! It's all about balancing the NUMBER of schools in each region, and you can't add more regions.

They have won the 32nd every year since they got in it, I'd say that's a good benefit.

The thing with NKY that some don't realize is Kenton Co is one of the biggest counties in the state, if I'm not mistaken. Not only is it one of the biggest counties in the state, but the majority of the county is city, which means more schools and people. Boone County is in the same boat. Eventually, with the rapid growth of Union, Burlington, and Hebron, you'll see another school built within the next 10-15 years which will lead to more schools being put in other regions to balance out the numbers.

 

Scott being in the 10th region really makes no sense to me considering they're they're within a 10 mile radius of practically every school in the 9th, but I can understand teams like Campbell and Brossart being in the 10th. SK being in the 8th region also makes a lot of sense considering how far out they are. With NKY being so big and growing more rapidly than any other part of the state (besides maybe around lexington), you're going to continually see teams from the 9th put in other regions.
