Ashlands Fields Davis verbally committed to Wittenberg University in Springfield Ohio this afternoon. Wittenberg is the all time winningest D3 football program in history with a slight edge on power Mount Union.

It's always good to have the lineman out in spring practice. The line is the rock of every team, and they are the most important factor IMO.

The coaches can only do so much, they cannot go out there and make a block or make a tackle. They motivate, teach, and make players better. How did the 1st day of spring practice go?

I'm just stating my opinion. Didn't mean to be negative, just think there are were more important factors on last years team than Drew. I'm not putting down Drew's ability at all if thats what it sounds like. Drew is a great player on both sides of the ball, holds many records and will continue to be a playmaker.

I don't think Ashland will miss Mcdavid as much as they will miss their entire O line. Drew was an excellent player on both sides of the ball but I would put him maybe 3rd on who Ashland will miss the most.

Thomas is their playmaker. But I doubt if he will be near enough to win a game. Defense wins championships and this team has 1 defensive starter returning (Thomas). A few got playing time due to injuries (Slone, Keaton) but they will be missing a lot of senior leadership. This years senior class is very small and will really need to pick it up. Quarterback will also be a question, even though they have a returning starter. But Mahan didn't have to carry the team any last season. Mahan now will be in the forefront, and when the pressure was on last season he melted down. He needs to pick up the effort this season!

Ashland plays Apollo and North Laurel down there.

Looks good, but Greenup County is short on pitching already and now they just lost Heineman for the year with a broken leg.

I have known Robby since he was a little boy, outside shooting ball at my house. I remember in maybe 6th or 7th grade Robbyw as hust and had to sit out an entire year from all sports. He has been seriously ill, and fought through many injuries but fought through them all. He is very resilient and one of the hardest working young men I have ever seen.

Another big concern is the QB position IMO, this team is not good enough for Mahan to fumble away 5-10 snaps a game. Thats basically 5-10 dead plays. Mahans inconsistantcies were hidden by the talent around him last year, but now that they lose most all of that talent and have a lot of young inexperienced players on the field it will come to the forefront.

It's no doubt that both teams are strong willed and both "want" this game. Elliott County is a good team, and play tough defense. Ashland needs to own the boards and limit turnovers to win. Elliott is smaller and will probably run run run. Look for a high scoring game, Ashland by 5!!!

I think Ashlands senior leadership will get them there. Drew Mcdavid has played a great tournament and will continue to play well. Robby Wilcox comes up big in big games, Jeremy Rose and Tyler Salyer are both role players but both can hit big shots and play good D.

I thought the refs did a terrible job early in the 3rd but in the end they got better.

I don't see the Lewis County vs Ashland game being much of a game at all. Lewis is outmanned at every position. This will be probably the largest deficit, this or Russell over Bath.

I'm not downing Ross at all but what a lot of athletes don't do is market themselves. Sometime college coaches just recruit in one area, or miss some kids. So you have to write letters and send out stats and tape, to get your name out there.

Elliot County drew a hot Boyd County team.

Selby is in good condition and moves very well for his size, I don't think the bigger floor will make much of a difference.

Looking at how well their basketball programs have done, and how much time, effort, and money they have spent trying to start this program, the football team should build up into a power or at least a contender very soon.

Ashland got a fantastic draw. Tough luck for Russell, Boyd, and Elliott. But I think that Russell will be the survivor in that side of the bracket. I don't think Elliott will be able beat the hot Boyd County. Selby will keep every coach in the region up late at night trying to find a way to stop him. Then Russell has a relatively easy game in the 1st round while either Boyd or Elliott will have to come off of a tough emotional first round game. I predict an Ashland vs Russell final

I agree with Dawgdays rankings but on any given night the top 5 or 6 can beat eachother. I don't think Lewis or Bath have a chance but all the other teams are very dangerous. Boyd could really suprise people, they beat Russell and Ashland this season and are playing really well right now. Nobody in the region can match up to Selby IMO. But I agree Elliot is the favorite right now.

This was a great game, Selby absolutely dominated the 1st half but got into foul trouble and had to sit and watch most of the 2nd half. Matt Thomas played a huge game, making clutch shots, hitting 3's, and driving to the lane and finishing. Matt was big time tonight. Both teams played well and made some big shots down the stretch. The stat that really killed Boyd (besides Selbys minutes on the bench) was turnovers. Boyd 18 Ashland 9, now that really hurt them. Boyd is going to be a team no one wants to play in Morehead. I wouldn't be suprised if they make it to the regional championship game, Selby is a force and Boyd has a lot of players that compliment his dominant inside game. Good luck to both teams in Morehead.
