  1. Perkins said in the paper today that they were just getting work in and breaking up games to get ready for the postseason.
  2. Hard fought game by both teams, everytime Ashland had a lead Russell just battled back to tie the game up. Rigsby and Bias pitched for Ashland, and Dehoff and I think Hamilton pitched for Russell.
  3. Witt has been hitting Kentucky pretty hard from what I've heard.
  4. By the way, Ashlands pitching and defense held Boyd to only 3 runs. If they can play that way almost every game it gives them a chance to win no matter who is on the mound for the opponent. Thats the same for every team. If you can give yourself a chance to win, errors, bad hops and lucky ones could give you a chance because they happen every game.
  5. And the romping was also against a Sophmore that Ashland brought up from JV just to pitch vs Boyd. I wouldn't say he's in their top 7 or 8 pitchers either.
  6. I didn't see Boyd hitting Ashlands pitchers very well either.
  7. Raceland has been coming into their own as of late, they started the season off struggling, but have really picked it up. East Carter has a very solid team and i look for both of these teams to be regional contenders come tourney time.
  8. Costly mistakes???? You mean attempted steals and just getting caught stealing by a good throw?
  9. And why is that? We've beaten a good Russell team twice, Boyd once, lost to a good Fairview team by 1 run with their ace on the hill, lost to a tough Lawrence County team who beat Boyd in a close game with their ace on the hill. I see Ashland competing with the big dogs in this area.
  10. Look, I don't want people to think this win over Boyd puts Ashland as the favorite in the region or district or anything remotely close to that. Boyd is a good team but didn't hit and made some costly mistakes. Ashland made mistakes too but got some timely hitting. I just want to say that this region is closer and more competitive than most people believe.
  11. Another timely hit by Ashland and this game was over in 7 too! Ashland had runners on 2nd and 3rd witht the game all tied up and Davis lined out to the second baseman.
  12. Ashland threw their 2nd or 3rd pitcher, and came in with a sophmore (young) in relief. But did Branham give up the game winning hit? Yes i believe so.
  13. Too young to compete? Hah!:ylsuper:
  14. Ashland had some great pitching, solid defense, and very timely hitting to take down their cross town rivals Boyd County. Davis had a lead off triple in the bottom of the 8th and Wilcox ended up hitting him in with the bases loaded and 1 out.
  15. Both teams played a pretty good game. Bourbon was up 5-2 early but Ashland battled back and took the lead. Bourbon had men on first and second with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th and their #2 hitter who had hit the ball very well all game burnt the leftfielder to bring home the winning run.
  16. In the infield Ashland has Fields Davis a senior at 3rd, Kris Bias a senior at SS, Robby Wilcox a senior at 2nd, Nick Jackson a sophmore at 1st, Cris Duvall a sophmore at catcher. The outfield is James Barber a senior in RF, Josh Miller a sophmore in CF, and Caleb Rigsby a junior in LF.
  17. After a horrendous start vs Thomas Washington being mercy ruled in 5, Ashland bounced back to beat North Laurel 5-0 and a team from New York 5-4 in 9 innings. Apollo rolled over the Tomcats 2-14, then on the final day Ashland loses to the same team from New York 5-6 ending Ashlands trip on a sour note.
  18. Some players got their invitations today, who all got invited?
  19. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/tom_verducci/03/20/matsuzaka0326/index.html This isn't really about curve balls but I think it fits when talking about saving kids arms. American way? Or Matsuzaka way?
  20. Ashlands Fields Davis verbally committed to Wittenberg University in Springfield Ohio this afternoon. Wittenberg is the all time winningest D3 football program in history with a slight edge on power Mount Union.
  21. It's always good to have the lineman out in spring practice. The line is the rock of every team, and they are the most important factor IMO.
  22. The coaches can only do so much, they cannot go out there and make a block or make a tackle. They motivate, teach, and make players better. How did the 1st day of spring practice go?
  23. I'm just stating my opinion. Didn't mean to be negative, just think there are were more important factors on last years team than Drew. I'm not putting down Drew's ability at all if thats what it sounds like. Drew is a great player on both sides of the ball, holds many records and will continue to be a playmaker.
  24. I don't think Ashland will miss Mcdavid as much as they will miss their entire O line. Drew was an excellent player on both sides of the ball but I would put him maybe 3rd on who Ashland will miss the most.
  25. Thomas is their playmaker. But I doubt if he will be near enough to win a game. Defense wins championships and this team has 1 defensive starter returning (Thomas). A few got playing time due to injuries (Slone, Keaton) but they will be missing a lot of senior leadership. This years senior class is very small and will really need to pick it up. Quarterback will also be a question, even though they have a returning starter. But Mahan didn't have to carry the team any last season. Mahan now will be in the forefront, and when the pressure was on last season he melted down. He needs to pick up the effort this season!
