Kentucky1 Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Who do you think will be the 16th regions champs? I would have said the red devils are the favorite but I am not sure since Vanhoose got injured. Has anyone heard how he is doing and to what extent his injury is?
HOMELESS CAMEL Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 I know it's your fifth post, BUT welcome to the board : ) Vanhoose is out for the playoffs and just hopefully he will be ready for Evansville basketball next fall. I don't want to say Russell has no chance because that's not really fair to the other players on the team. So I will simply say, they don't have as good of a chance without their leader. Elliott Co has to be the favorite now. Who knows what East Carter team may show up. Boyd Co played well early in the year, struggled late and got the big win over the Hill. I don't want to say it, but Ashland has a shot as well with the experience on that team. Most regions have a team or two that have to considered above everyone else, in the 16th, I think most of the teams are even which will create one heck of an environment in the tournament.
BogeyMan Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Ashland and Elliott have to be favored, although I am still not ready to count Russell out.

Thanks for the Welcome. That is sad that Vanhoose is out for the playoffs, But I am sure that everyone will be cheering for him at Evansville. I agree that Russell still has a chance but I dont think they are the region favorite any more. I Like Elliott County's chances for a new 16th region champ, But like you said there is really several teams that could pull off the wins. Boyd County, Russell, Elliott County, Ashland, East Carter all could be the next champs
BigDawgOnCampus Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 My Rankings of the teams left: 1. Elliott 2. Russell 3. Ashland 4. Boyd 5. Rowan 6. East 7. Bath 8. Lewis
Kentucky1 Posted March 3, 2007 Author Posted March 3, 2007 My Rankings of the teams left: 1. Elliott 2. Russell 3. Ashland 4. Boyd 5. Rowan 6. East 7. Bath 8. Lewis I agree with your rankings even though I feel that any of these teams could beat each other.
oldrambler Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 I will have to wait and see the pairings before making any predictions. Ashland, Russell and Elliot are the definate front runners to me.
Incognito Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 I agree with the rankings except I'd put Bath below Lewis.
Big Time Blue Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Didn't Bath County just beat Lewis by 16 on Lewis County's court about a week ago?
FBALL Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 I wouldn't count Russell out as the favorite just yet. Even without VanHoose they are still the most athletic team in the region. Russell played their best this year when everyone was involved in the offense. Not just relying on VanHooses scoring to carry them. I'm not saying VanHoose being out doesn't hurt because it obviously does. But there is still alot of talent there to help pick up the slack.
MSUEagles Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 I think there are 4-5 teams that have the talent to actually win the tournament. I will say that Elliott is probably the favorite at this point, but Ashland and Russell have the talent to win, as well. Boyd and Rowan would need some luck and a perfect draw, but they can't be discarded.

tcat25 Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 I agree with Dawgdays rankings but on any given night the top 5 or 6 can beat eachother. I don't think Lewis or Bath have a chance but all the other teams are very dangerous. Boyd could really suprise people, they beat Russell and Ashland this season and are playing really well right now. Nobody in the region can match up to Selby IMO. But I agree Elliot is the favorite right now.
