Morgan County Head Football Coach Randy Wood Has Resigned

Featured Replies

Morgan County's very successful head football coach Randy Wood has resigned.

Wood, took over a struggling program and immediately took a team from 3-7 the previous year to 8-4 and the school's playoff WIN at Mercer County that season. The following year saw Coach Wood advance to the playoffs once again, and despite injuries the Cougars battled to a 7-5 season. After they were hit hard with graudation and even more injuries to starting QB Andy Fannin and FB Derrick Young, the Cougars were 2-8 this season and in every single game except for 2.

The 2007 Cougars do return some skilled positions and a good portion of their line...including Ryan Buckler, Joey Fletcher, Nathan Cantrell, and FB Brandon Ward...etc.

6'4" QB Andy Fannin will be evaluated after baseball season to see if his shoulder could withstand and be well enough to play his senior season, if he can, the Cougars will have a big boost.

I'm sure a formal posting of this head coaching vacancy will be administered later.

Is coach Wood retiring or is he going somewhere else?

Any idea on who will replace him, internal promotion?

Coach Wood is moving back to Nicholasville area I presume. The job will be posted and looking for the best candidate...doubtful that candidate would be within.

Wow Big loss for Morgan Co. Coach Wood is a class act and a terrific coach. He really brought the Cougar program along way! IMO if it were not for Russell in the second round of 2004 the Cougars would have been playing at Belfry in the State Semi's!!

^How many teams have said that in the past.:thumb:

Blue Blazer,

I really think it was a possiblity. Russell was the better team but the Cougars had them sweating in the 4th quarter of the Sorghum Bowl.;)

I think Morgan CO. would have matched up well with Belfry that year.

The 2004 Morgan team was a very good team but nobody would have beat Belfry that year. That was one of the strongest teams I've ever seen in 2A. I think that team was one of the best 2A champs in the state in a good while. (Except for 2005 Russell, of course):D They were the real-deal!!

Back to Coach Woods, he turned Morgan County football into a program. The area is losing one of it's best coaches but I wish him nothing but the best. When people think of Morgan County coming to town, they no longer think of that game as an easy win as in the past. They now think of that game as a tough one because they know Morgan will come to play and that wasn't the case in the past but it is definately the case now. Morgan County now has a repectable program in football and they can thank Coach Woods for that. As an official, I can truely say that he is a pleasure to work with. He coaches his team and leaves the officiating to the officials and I respect that alot. I don't know why he resigned but I'm sure he had his reason. I hope he has tons of success in his future endevours.

Quite a few, I'd say.

Quite a few, I'd say.

A few, are you sure about that.

Congrats on a job well done rebuilding at Morgan Coach Wood. Wish you the best in your future decisions you make and hope you continue to coach because you have made a name for yourself.

I would say that even though Coach Wood has done a good job, the administration is still fighting progress tooth and nail or Wood would have stayed.

Coach Wood has done a tremendous job and will be an asset wherever he winds up. I respect him as a coach and a person. Best of Luck to you Coach and I respect you for placing your family above a profession.

I'm not knocking what Coach Wood did, but it would be hard for me to respect that he put his profession above his family the past few years. Everyone has a different look on this subject and probably should be a thread of it's own, but I believe it's always God 1st, Family 2nd, and your profession 3rd. That Is My Opinion. I think he is making a wise decision and resigning to put his family first again. I do respect that!

Anyway.....Best of luck to Coach Wood where ever he lands next. He would be an asset to any staff!

but I believe it's always God 1st, Family 2nd, and your profession 3rd.

:thumb: Not sure what happened to my thumb but thumbs up Blackshirts. I agree totally

Again, he will be an asset to the school lucky enough to get him.

Probably going to be an assistant at one of the Lexington Schools.
