Anything that brings some positive recognition is good, right? I've always enjoyed high school football, and I especially like to keep up with the elite programs. So dating back 20 years or so, I've always been fascinated by the T and X rivalry...the passion, the number of people who attend, the success both schools have enjoyed, etc. Rivalries between elite programs in any sport at any level are a good thing, IMO. I'd love to make it up and watch the game in person some day. I'm sure there are more people like me, so I believe there is interest in this game all across the state. Its pretty neat.

Obviously, in a given year another NKY school could be better than Highlands. On a year-to-year basis though, there doesn't seem to be any program ready to step to that level. Forever is a long time. Things can change. But, HHS is looking pretty safe at the moment.

In a year when both teams have serious questions, the only question in 6A is still which one of these two will be standing at the end.

They also own the state's longest win streak at 50 games, correct?

I definitely think Pike Central has a chance to win their district.

You get some ups and downs relying on young players. Plus, I think a lot of people weren't giving PCC the respect they deserved, considering they trounced Breathitt last season as well. Their program has improved. I don't know anything about LCA.

:lol: Sandbagger. Highlands could be in there as well. They might not win as many as the other two, but I'm guessing they'd be the king of the hill every now and then.

PCC beat Breathitt County 37-14 last season. I'm a little surprised by the margin, but not so much that PCC won. I don't know any details of the game.

Which starting QB transferred?

Big scores happen in mismatches. Without seeing the game, it's hard for me to comment with regards to running the score up. A coach can take certain measures, like subbing and calling conservative plays, but ultimately, instructing your team to basically lay down would be just as humiliating, IMO.

I can buy that. Coaches do not purposely sits starters for no reason. I could also buy that some, if not all, of those guys could have played in a more important game, but they didn't want to risk anything in a non-district, early season game. But, I have a hard time believing that Glaser would sit perfectly healthy first stringers for an entire game just because they didn't feel like they needed them and wanted to work on depth. If that's the case, X's second and third stringers will be playing 75% or more of the snaps this season, because they will only "need" the starters for a few opponents.

Definitely. In the '90's, they won or finished runner-up (usually won) in Class A almost every year of the decade.

What happened to Male? They were right there with Trinity for a time. Is it just a downcycle that inevitably happens at most places, or something more?

Why did X go that route? Injuries or what? It seems strange to play your starters sparingly for no reason.

I'm not an advocate of running it up, nor do I accuse Lawrence County of it. But, I'm not buying that it's any more humiliating. Seriously, which would be more humiliating to you? A team scoring more points, or intentionally fumbling the football or punting on first down just to keep from scoring? I'd play my starters one possession in the third quarter, put in the backups after that and call conservative rushing plays from that point forward. That's what I would do.

:thumb: I don't think most people were expecting much from the Bobcats after a disappointing 7-6 2009 season, and the departures of offensive leaders, Channing Fugate and Jade Haddix. What people will find out is Richard Trent is an upgrade at the QB position, and the leader of a pretty talented sophomore class for BC. Josh Fletcher looks to be playing with more consistency at the WR position. There's no RB on the level of Fugate, but as you say, the offense features more balance. It's possible that the team relied too heavily on Haddix and Fugate last season and didn't fully utilize its potential. With those two gone, others have the opportunity and are stepping up early in the season. One final point, I think this team might be a little scrappier and hard nosed. Those are two qualities that are never a bad thing for a football team.

Every game is different, but in their strongest seasons, Breathitt County (Coach Holcomb) typically played his starters for one possession in the third quarter in games that were severe mismatches. Generally speaking, BC would score anywhere from 42-56 points in the first half, and then would tack on one more to open the second half before pulling the starters. Once the second string was in, the playcalling would go very conservative and typically one more TD might be scored, but many times no more points would go on the board. I haven't seen every game and can't remember every score, but 70 points are the most I can remember seeing the Bobcats post. I thought it was a pretty good system.

Bobcats roll up 583 yards of offense. Will Collins had 259 total yards and 2 TD (13 rush, 165 yds, TD; 5 rec, 94 yds, TD). QB Richard Trent had 132 yards and a TD on 17 carries. He also threw for somewhere around 200 yards and a 2 TD. Cody Pritchard had 99 yards and a TD on 10 carries. Josh Fletcher had 2 receptions for 47 yards and 2 TD's. So far so good for the Bobcats. Hope they can keep it up.
