I wonder if the X-Men took it easy on the Knights in this one?

Maybe Coach Mike Glaser took it easy on the school where his brother (and I think current X assistant coach) was the president or some other high administrative officer.

Plus it is good business.

I am really interested to hear from anyone that was at the game???

St. X held back on the score for further sandbagging purposes. :sssh:

Sluggish start for both teams. End of 1st quarter was 7-0 or 0-0. LC did not have 1st down in first half. St. X starting backfield was all out so that probably kept down the explosive scoring. But LC secondary still need some work. X converted a few 4th and longs throughout the night. But the main problem for LC was an offense that could not find its rhythm and get the ball moving until midway through the 2nd half.

To your point, guru, Coach Glaser rested many of the starters in this game. Beach, Brohm, and McMurray did not play at all, and Jay Hayden did not see any action until the middle of the 2nd quarter, and he saw very few touches in the 2nd half. There were two or three other starters who were withheld entirely from action. The vast majority of the game was played by Tiger backups. There was just a constant ebb-and-flow of heretofore little used players running on and off the field. He viewed this as an excellent opportunity to build some experienced team depth. It just seemed so strange seeing the whole starting backfield absent from the huddle.

Alex Mattingly, the junior QB who started in Brohm's place, had a super game tonight and would have had three additional passing TDs if wide open receivers had not developed a bad case of dropsey. The "bad hands" problems were also affecting the young Tiger DB's, as they dropped four easy interceptions. The 37-0 score could have been much worse.

Why did X go that route? Injuries or what? It seems strange to play your starters sparingly for no reason.

Apparently felt they did not need them and wanted to rest them. Save them for a later tougher game - with no disrespect to LC. I think it was a smart move. They are after all the defending Champs and will continue to be - until dethroned. The X juggernaut continues.

Actually Brohm and McMurry have been hurt since the last scrimmage. Beach (shoulder) and Oliver (concussion) were added to the injury list last night. Hayden and Mattingly both missed school last week with the stomach bug that is going around. They were not intentionally holding out starters. The positive is that they are slowly building some quality depth which will pay off throughout the year. There were a few times last night when the backfield playing was not one mentioned by anyone in the preseason. The backups really stepped up and did their job.

I can buy that. Coaches do not purposely sits starters for no reason. I could also buy that some, if not all, of those guys could have played in a more important game, but they didn't want to risk anything in a non-district, early season game. But, I have a hard time believing that Glaser would sit perfectly healthy first stringers for an entire game just because they didn't feel like they needed them and wanted to work on depth. If that's the case, X's second and third stringers will be playing 75% or more of the snaps this season, because they will only "need" the starters for a few opponents.
