Male 17 Western 16 (OT)

Sometimes it doesn't take the mighty long to fall...

I assume it was 10-10 at end of regulation. That has to be the fewest points Male has scored in a good weather game in years.

Sometimes you have to give the other team credit, and Male did win.

Of course I give Western credit but the Bulldogs appear to be riding a coaster downhill.

New Coach/system? I know that Floyd Central had a huge win last week, not sure about tonite, but they are not a bad team. Eastern is very good but play in the toughest District in the state, but handled the Bears. I didn't go to the Male game, I thought it would be a cake stroll, and if I felt that way I wonder how the Dawgs felt. Male should have lost to the Eagles and from a phone call I got also to the Warriors. They have lost two key players on D due to injury, not sure for how long.

While Male is 2-0, the horizon doesn't look too promising.

I believe Male is 3-0...Just WIN baby......

What happened to Male? They were right there with Trinity for a time. Is it just a downcycle that inevitably happens at most places, or something more?

I know that Male has a new coach but is Western that good?

Let's wait and see about Male. Nobody is perfect all the time. As Al. Larry implies, mavbe Western is pretty darn good, or at least was last night.

Male is very good and like I said have beaten three very good teams. QB hasn't played due to an injury and the kid playing for them is doing fine. Two really nice hard running backs. Quick defense, very good place kicker. Great numbers. Freshmen beat Western in OT.

When you compare Rocks/X, well they are on a different level than Manual/Ballard/Fern Creek/Male. Yes, Ballard/Male will have a great team every few years or so but not like the private schools. It is what it is and we just have to deal with it.

Example: My sons 8th grade team is very good, won it all last year. We had a practice game against a 8th Grade Catholic team that is projected to win thier Toy Bowl. Very good game and we barely out scored them. When they move up they will attend probaby two schools, where the Highview kids go everywhere in the city. They don't stay together. Maybe three kids will go to Male with my kid from this team.

Hasn't Western been quietly improving over the last 3 seasons? I know that their record in past years may not reflect it, but I believe that their record in those years was edited when they had to accept some penalties for KHSAA violations. I also think that the mighty hasn't "fallen". I think that parents are more willing to consider schools like Central and Ballard and Butler, when in the past Male was the only option for the type of academics and environment that they were seeking for their kids. Male used to be arguably the top 1-2 school to try and get into, next to Manual. Now, there are many more options to consider, and that has to have had some effect on the talent being spread out around the city.

Of course I give Western credit but the Bulldogs appear to be riding a coaster downhill.

I wouldn't call being 3-0 with a new Coach and system riding downhill. A WIN IS A WIN, Western was not a bad team at all. The Dawgs will get better with Giddens and Morris in the backfield and the Defense is greatly improving. I promise they are OK in their own skin right now.

Coach Wolfe is a very good coach. I think he will get it going at Male sooner than later..

Yes they have. They appear to be in the early stages of the "Central" route, which would be playing bigger schools, posting unimpressive records, but have a team capable of advancing in the postseason. Part of the problem for them is that they are in 4A, which is much more difficult to traverse than Central in 3A.
