Beechwood in there anywhere?

To the general state of the game and fundamentals, I would say that it's a lot more physical and the defense gets away with too much which makes it very difficult to run, say, a pick n roll. Most colleges use the pnr quite a bit (especially late in the shot clock) and every pro team uses it (some as their primary offense). So, I don't know if the fundamentals are necessarily lost--maybe the defenses today hide some of them.

I think every high school coach teaches fundamentals but it makes a big difference what level the players are on mental and physically when he gets them. A coach who "inherits" a fundamentally sound group will have to spend less time on them; whereas a coach who "inherits" a group that is not fundamentally sound will have to spend more time and those kids my never master the fundamentals because you have to put in offenses, defenses, out of bounds plays, run shooting drills, etc. It's usually not the head coach's fault.

Raiderbird is correct. It's just a matter of adding games so some players who don't get playing time on JV can get some PT. It wouldn't really effect numbers so wouldn't effect Title IX. If a majority of NK schools can do it (including some DIII schools), then I think HHS should be able to pull it off. Just a matter of getting it done but probably not this year because it maybe too late.

Yes, it is. Yes, it is (although 4 dribbles is going to be debateable). No, you can only assist on a made field goal. The NBA now pretty much gives the last man to touch the ball an assist if the scorer didn't hold the ball or pause with the ball while making his move to the basket.

I'd say that if it was a situation like "Hoosiers", then, yes, the coach should say something and ask the parents to leave. If they're just showing up to pick there kids up and they're there for 15 minutes or so every once in awhile, (especially if they stay out of the way and are not a distraction) then no need to make a big deal out of it. I'd say, leave it a non-issue until it becames and issue.

NCC went to a 1-3-1 a little bit in the first half but primarily in the 4th quarter and, no, HHS did not shoot well from 3.

I think that the interest was low because no one knew the position was available. There are only 20 or so HC positions in the 9th Region--there would have been some interest. I know there was some interest very late in the process. Do you know if anyone was ever given an official interview? Also, coaching 8th grade girls and coaching varsity are worlds apart. Although it is admirable for him to step in when needed two years in a row and I can't believe that they couldn't have found anyone else to coach.

Nice one, Ace! Howard Davis (I believe). Even at a small school, that's a pretty tough pairing (principal and head basketball coach). I think there's a reason most school districts don't allow the two to be done by the same person. If he's single, has no children, and can operate on 5 hours of sleep, he'll do just fine.

They could be it. Still not saying it is right but I have heard of stories in which coaches have a required time in the mile to even tryout for the team--not only in basketball but football as well.

That makes a lot more sense. In that case, I certainly hope they tried to find another game in one of their two bye weeks. It's unfortunate that they'll basically miss out on one of their 10 Varsity games this season.

Does anyone know if anything has been done with the players since August? A parent or assistant coach from last year could have been holding open gyms and conditioning but now you're really hurting the players and whoever the coach is going to be.

This is true. The blame could certainly be all on the Dayton team. Like I said, how do you even get to this point?

I'm guessing it has to do with both teams scheduling a game for week 8. Week 8 in Ohio and Kentucky are different (and almost always are), correct?. Do football contracts not have dates? What did Ohio do and when did they make the change? Like I said before, how do you even get to this point? I'm seriously wondering how this happened because it appears that they didn't cover their bases in regard to scheduling.

How do you even get to this point? Contracts are signed and exchanged months, sometimes years, in advance. The AD and/or coach didn't notice they had 2 games schedule on the same weekend? Unbelieveable.

Saw that on TV last night. They didn't have this angle, they had the camera down on the floor where he dunked it. Incredible timing by the kid.

Looking at the box score I was wondering how they got 47 in the first half. Was it pressure forcing turnovers or were they actually trying to run with them? They needed the final score to be 47 to have much of a chance. I still can't believe they are 25+ points better than Beechwood but they defenitely are or maybe more.

That's what I'm thinking. How do you turn down you one chance in four years to host the districts? I don't care about Holmes and CovCath if I'm Beechwood. Would Holy Cross turn down their chance to host it? NO! How do you let this happen? That's unbelieveable! I didn't see the earlier game but I was very surprised by the margin. Maybe nerves or whatever but give them your best shot. Bigger turn arounds and bigger shockers have occurred.

If the player is clearly attempting a shot, it is a blocked shot whether it leaves the shooters hand or not, and not a steal. If it's a block that results in a jump ball then it would be a team rebound or dead ball rebound. Also, the possession arrow shouldn't determine whether or not you charge someone with a turnover.

A few years back at a Beechwood-NCC football game at Newport Stadium the split the pot was $2300. Can't remember if it was a playoff game or regular season but there was a huge crowd that night.
