I'd like to see a video of this. If the kid just starting running after the shot went in and ended up in front of the other bench, then I don't think that by itself is a problem. In my mind I'm picturing the Christian Laettener shot and that celebration which ended up in front of the Kentucky bench where UK players literally had to walk around the Duke players laying on the floor. I don't think anyone would ever say that it was over-the-top or uncalled for. Maybe it was the other team that started it.

One winter in the early 2000s (can't remember which one), I know there were county schools that only went to school for 3 days in the month of February. What do you do then? As has been stated, you can make up school days, you can't change the dates of season-ending tournaments (well, not without major headache). It's a district by district decision and I think common sense prevails MOST of the time and safety of the students prevails nearly ALL the time. "No school, no play" just isn't feasible in much of the state.

Not only is it buses vs. cars but it's also VERY rural roads vs. well traveled roads. You don't have much experience with county schools. You will quite regularly have practices on days when school is out and sometimes games. Being in school is a matter of whether or not a bus can cover its route on uncleared roads. Being able to get to a game is a matter of get from one school to another (usually on main roads).

That was my thought from the beginning. It doesn't change the "who", just the "how many".

:ohbrother: First and second, 1 out. Beechwood attempts to turn a double play. SS clearly missed 2nd base and the 2nd base umpire (4 MAN CREW, btw) points at the base and SIGNALS "safe". The runner on 2nd base was nearly to warning track in front of the 3rd base dugout and the 1st baseman rolled the ball to the pitchers mound when many fans and coaches realized the inning was not over. The runner also had taken off his batting helmet (umpires, could he not have been called out for leaving the baseline AND taking off his helmet?). When HC's coaches yelled at him to get back to 3rd base, he tried to but the SAFE RUNNER from 1st was already rounding 2nd base and heading to 3rd. BW threw the ball to 3rd base, the third baseman was confused and hesitated, as the runner was almost back to 3rd base, he saw his own man coming to 3rd base. So, he decided to head home. The 3rd baseman, still confused, hesitated again but finally threw the ball home. The catcher jumped for the ball and was run into by the runner. He was about 5 feet up the 3rd baseline when contact was made. Tough call. Could have gone either way. By the rule, it was probably the right call because the runner was close enough to where he should have been sliding. One BW coach ran out to the edge of the dirt circle at home plate to argue the call from the bench. He was restricted to the dugout and later tossed from the game. The benches DID NOT clear. NO PUNCHES were thrown. There were several players from each team in front of their respective dugouts because they assumed the inning was over. No other players or coaches made much of a fuss about anything or acted inappropriately. Coach W was upset with the call and argued briefly and I don't think anyone can fault him for that because it was such a close call and carries a hefty penalty. Harrison County has a nice team, played very well, and definitely deserves to move on. As someone else mention about having a video....THAT would be eye-opening.... "You stay classy Thoroughbred fans!"

That is already a problem. Look at the 10th region tournament right now. This is a great set up but it definitely gives an advantage to larger school. No more innings on young arms (because of the rules in place) but you need more depth to compete. This is an excellent point and a big problem with the regionals and sub-regionals. M-W-F and one ace can win the sub-regional. Since wholesale changes are unlikely. I would like to see the regional final be pushed back to the weekend and play a best-of-3 and then a best-of-3 sub-regional.

In another thread it was mentioned that 10 or 11 of the state's top 15 teams have been eliminated. Do you think the regional tournament needs to be changed? Or the sub-regional or state tournament? Baseball is a very different game in a tournament setting than football, basketball, softball, or any other sport. I know time would not permit it but I love the way college baseball does its tournaments--double elimination, best-of-3, double elimination, and best-of-3.

Unbelieveable! That's 3 regional titles in 6 years for a "Class A" school and this one has to be the most impressive of them all. As far as the play at 2nd base...if by rule and/or interpretation that's an illegal play, it shouldn't be.

Jake Daley started and pitched into the 2nd inning. Head came in and pitched from the 2nd inning on. HHS walked 9 batters.

Some pitchers play 1B. Some DH the day after pitching a lot of innings. Pitchers warm up between innings. You've never seen any of these things happen? I'll give you that fact that you don't do something you haven't done all season long but most teams do these things on a regular basis.

This a good point and probably what some coaches will do. You can pitch several different combinations of 1, 2, 3, 5, or even 7 innings and it allows you to make multiple appearances.

A fun (for the fans, not the coaches) and unique situation that exists only in baseball... Let's say you have a clear-cut #1, #2, and #3. Your 2nd round match-up could be tougher than your first. Who do you throw? What if the regional favorite is on the opposite half of the bracket (no matter who you are) and you feel you can only beat him with your #1? One line of thinking would be to play for the whole tournament. The other would be to make sure you win the first game. Maybe another would be to try to get to the finals and take you chances there. Every coach's situation is different because of talent and their draw but, generally speaking, what would you do?

Trying to predict the bracket is pointless. The favorite is clearly CovCath but that certainly doesn't mean they are a lock. As a dark horse, I like Ryle, even though they are a district winner I don't think most thought they would get out of districts. A team no one wants to see in the first round but would like to see in the second round...I think you're referring to Beechwood.

No metal is correct. Last year, the games were 10am, 1pm, 4pm, and 7pm (I'm pretty sure).

NCC got 3 in the first--two walks followed by two base hits. Sainola settled down after that and pitched well. HHS got one on an error. Followed that up with another run the next inning on a walk, SB, and 2 wild pitches. Tied it in the fourth on a double by Head. In the top of the 5th, HHS had 1st and 3rd with 1 out but a failed suicide squeeze attempt turning into a double play and changed the momentum. However, in the bottom of the 6th, with 2nd and 3rd and 1 out, they tried it again and Abner got the bunt down, the throw got away and 2 runs scored. Newman followed with a 2-out hit to make it 6-3. NCC got one on in the 7th but Sainola finished the game off.

Of course they aren't going to say "parents complained too much" was the reason but isn't that the reason in many cases? What's so surprising about that? Especially in this case. I can PM you if you want but there isn't much more to it than that.

Pretty much already covered it. A few parents complain and the administration gives in to it. He certainly didn't do anything wrong that would be a fireable offense.
