Does anyone know if this tournament will still be at Champion Window Field? Or was it scheduled to be there this year at all?

 

Just wondering cause the Florence Freedom just got the final bits of turf put down recently and will have their first exhibition game on the turf on Sunday with the season starting on Wednesday. They'll be on the road that Monday-Thursday that the regionals would be. Rain wouldn't be an issue unless it came a complete monsoon cause of the turf being down and not having to worry about it being too wet.

With a lot of great match ups in the first round of the tournament, I am curious about the Bellevue-NewCath game. Bellevue looks as they are playing really good baseball right now, NewCath has been consistant throughout the season, when was the last time that Bellevue has beaten NewCath in baseball, regular season or districts?

From the KHSAA web site I looked at the 36th district play only and found:

 

Bellevue beat NewCath by a score of 7-6 in the first round of the 36th District tournament in 2001.

 

In this years match up, I don't think the Bellevue hitters will be able to hit Conner except for Jones, and if I were the NCC coaches anytime Jones came to the plate whether runners were on or not, I would just point to first base and issue Jones a IW.

I would say the most interesting game will be Holy Cross versus Beechwood to see who makes regionals. Smith verse Roeneker is easily the top five pitching duels this year. The biggest one would probably have been Isler verse Smith.

Can the pitching of David Etscheid along the outstanding "D" but lack of great hitters on Ryle beat the great hitting but average "D" team of Boone County?

 

36th NCC vs Bellevue on Monday May 18th

Can Conner hold the rest the Tigers batters to a few hits allowing him to IW Jones, but can Bellevue pitchers stop the Breds from scoring a ton of runs to keep the game close?

 

35th Beechwood vs Cov Holy Cross on Tuesday May 19th

First will both teams #1 pitchers be able to throw. If one team ace throws and the other teams doesn't, it will make a huge difference. If both teams throw their #1 it will be what teams "D" lets their ace down.

 

34th Dixie vs Lloyd on Tuesday May 19th

Will Lloyd be able to score a run off Stanberry or Smallwood but will Dixie score more than 1 or 2 runs and thus keeping the game close and making it interesting in the last inning.

 

BTW I was looking at the District match ups in the other district throughout the Commonwealth, and I for one was stunned by the number of District who have lights on their baseball fields. In NKy I know that Meiken (HC @ Holmes) has lights, and Dixie and St. Henry have lights, but does anybody else have lights on their baseball fields in the Ninth Region?

 

Seem strange to me that throughout the rest of the Commonwealth we in NKy are considered rich, but when you look at our ball fields that our kids play on compared to some areas of the Commonwealth, we lag behind so much. Why is that?

It's definitely much tougher for private school's to afford things like lights when they have to pretty much find a donation or fund it themselves. St. Henry is very lucky to have the field that they have. Scott and Campbell Co. do, but they are 10th region. I don't know why teams like Ryle, Conner, and Boone don't have lighting.
