As far as the game goes: Where in the world do Scott fans draw this kind of optimism from? The 2-8 mark last year? 1 winning season in 25+ yrs of football? I can't even remember the last time they were in the GAME with Dixie, much less a win. New year, same old Scott. Lots of talk, but no action. Ever heard of the saying "let sleeping dogs lie?" Because Dixie had been asleep at the wheel for the first 3 weeks, but comments like the ones I have read will only serve to fuel the fire of what has been, to this point, a rather lethargic Dixie Heights Colonels squad. On a side note, SM32 I feel your pain, and I can totally picture you cursing under your breath right now! :lol:

Actually saw that Scott was, in fact, ranked higher than any other NKY 4A team in the latest state poll. Not Scott Co. Wonder who could have voted for that? Probably safe to say that this is the first time that Scott has been ranked in the state polls.

You seem to have a good knowledge of the Eagle program. I was asking more along the lines of improving Scott's program. I just can't see how it will happen with the current open enrollment. IMO, this will only be further exacerbated by the new district. I agree that playing great teams only makes you better, but exactly when will we see that from Taylor Mill? In my lifetime?

Just read a few more posts and I had to comment on one more thing. Ever notice how the "traditional" powers are always against change? I remember when they decided to do away with the polls(for championships) in college football, and the outcry from Mich, OSU, Nebraska, etc. Why? So that teams like Utah, Louisville, etc. couldn't break into their "elite" fraternity. I remember Yankee fans just bashing the idea of a wild card. Why would they want it to change, they've done fine with things the way they have been. If your making the "watered down" argument, I suggest we go back to 1 class. Then we'll only have a 3 BIG teams making the "watered down" claim. Then if you beat them, it will really mean something, as opposed to that paltry title you've been playing for. :lol:

I see both sides of the argument. This college football analogy got me thinking though. There are plenty of people who still talk about the year the 'Cats went to the Peach Bowl(I have no clue, because I don't really like UK). Would that have been possible if they hadn't expanded the bowl games outside of the traditional games? No. Is it good for the game? In most cases, yes. Like it or not, this is happening everywhere. NFL goes to wild card system, MLB goes to wild card, NCAA continually expands the number of bowls, H.S. teams continually host more "bowl" games, NCAA BB goes to play-in games and talks of adding teams to the tourney. Personally, I kind of enjoyed the days when you had to win a pennant to have a chance at the World Series. I know it was a big deal when I was in school to get "invited" to play in a H.S. bowl game(there were only a handful at that time). It kind of irks me that some people want their tradition and for it to mean something on one hand, but on the other they cheer for events like the ones listed above. Think of what would happen if we never changed our "tradition" and made it more "meaningful". Take a program like the University of Louisville. I've got news for you Card fans, without the GMAC bowl, Motor City Bowl, etc., etc. your program wouldn't be where it is today. In fact, we'd have the "traditonal" powers, always playing in the games that meant anything, never really letting anyone else get their foot in the door. Anything that gives more people a chance to cheer for the sport of football, I'm all for, there are far too many young kids nowadays that choose not to play anyhow. I say, let 'em all in. If you think it won't mean as much, as the UK fans how much that peach bowl means to them, or the UL fans how much it means to have a top notch program. Without postseason expansion, none would have ever happened.

As much as I'd like to agree with some of the Raider Nation, this is going to be an awful tough game for Ryle to win. I was here, this time last year, tooting the Raider horn.......before GE came out and stomped us. Fool me once...... IF Ryle was at full strength, I think they might be able to give GE all they could handle. Being as were a few men down, I'm not sure that will happen. But I suppose that's why they play the games..... Good luck Raiders! P.S. I'd love for you to prove me wrong(I'm so sick and tired of hearing how good Ohio football is!)

Scott should win this one. Wow, don't think I've said that....well.....ever. That being said, Scott should have won last week, and they should have been better than they have been over the last 25 years. Shoulda, woulda, coulda......I don't know who'll win, but I know it'll be ugly.

On a side note after hearing about CovCath/Highlands today, this was mentioned to me: "They have opened it up to where 85% of the teams get in, and yet the same teams that never made it are even LESS likely to make it with their new district" Do you guys think a team like Scott has a better chance of making the playoffs now, in a 8 team district, or with their new district(I'm assuming 3 for sure, maybe 4 will make it)?

I sure am going to miss the great games we've played with you guys over the past few years. Somehow, I don't think one of our current coaches will want to extend the rivalry any longer.:irked: As far as the 5A district, the wheels of my master plan have started to turn. My question is, 4 years from now, when the Boone Co. school system builds another school, what will happen? Can/will we return to the glory days(for me at least) of: Ryle Dixie Highlands CovCath Conner SK Holmes And new additions Boone Co. and whatever they'll call the new Boone Co. school? I don't know where Scott fits into this, other than on the losing end. Maybe they'll take some beatings in the next 4 years and pack it in?:lol: Seriously, j/k for all you Scott fans. I don't think ANYONE would want CovCath, Highlands, and Dixie in their district.

You root for your team, and you root for yours should be covered in every pregame ground rules meeting.

We all know how "coach" times are. I doubt there are 5 kids in the state that run a legit 4.3, much less two on the same team. There is a reason that many kids who were safeties in H.S. switch to LB in college, or LB to DE, etc. And it sure as heck isn't because they run 4.3's. I have seen most of the "skill" kids at CovCath, and I'd say there are maybe a couple of high 4.4's and a bunch of 4.6 kids. For H.S. football, that ain't bad!

How many 16-17 year olds do you know that can decide what they are going to tommorrow? Not many. Now throw in added pressure to "verbal" with a team as a junior(the new "it" thing in college football), and its no wonder that so many kids back out of their decisions. And for the record, I'm pretty sure it wasn't DJ's idea that he should verbally commit to UK, I'm pretty sure UK wanted him to make a verbal commitment. Heck, I can't even get a 17 year old to verbally commit to cutting my grass once a week. Congrats to DJ. Well deserved, and I've long been an admirer and supporter. Continue to work hard, and do what Coach Trosper asks, as I know you'll read this.

I cannot possibly fathom a loss like this. Honestly, after reading about this terrible tragedy, it really put things into perspective for me this morning. I cannot imagine......... The thoughts and prayers of the entire Ryle community to all of those affected by this young man's tragic death.

I don't have the numbers, but I'll jump on a limb and say its close. As stated above, percentages should all be pretty relative, fluctuating from year to year as talent ebbs and flows.

I do not disagree that we should aspire to model ourselves after "better" football states. But modeling ourselves after "better" football states won't change the number of D1 athletes coming out of KY. I'm pretty sure that's going to be a finite number whether we have 1 class or 100 classes. The only aspect that we can correlate with producing D1 athletes is population, plain and simple. As I've always said, its all about the numbers.:lol: Its no coincidence that your "better" football states are also the most populated states in the Union.

Understood, I did not know that. Timing seems a bit odd, no? I guess the sentiment I was trying to express is that this is just a means to appease the masses, and never would have happened if there wasn't talk of a public/private split.

And to that end I'll suggest this: It is my understanding that the KFCA meeting in Danville isn't exactly "heavily attended" by the majority of football coaches across the bluegrass state. So naturally, many of the views for or against 6 classes wouldn't have been represented at that meeting. Now before you get all up in a tizzy, I agree, if they can't take the time to go to the meeting, then they don't deserve a say in the process. I'm just offering this piece of info as to a clue as to why we seem to have so many coaches "against" the 6 class idea when apparently there wasn't much disapproval at Centre in June. On a personal note: thanks for clearing things up 'Ru. I know I was a bit confused myself. However, I still feel that this is really just an olive branch to the public schools to try and prevent a public/private split. The KHSAA had to do something, heck 70% of the membership voted for a split and they said, flat out, NO. Clearly, if you don't please the majority of your membership, your not going to have a job for long.

I have to disagree my friend. The KHSAA is pursuing this idea because the coaches overwhelmingly voted for a public/private split. Never, and I mean never, was there a vote by the coaches for 6 classes. This is just Plan B to try to "calm the masses." It will probably work for a while, and may work wholly if they implement the "super class" alignment. But the underlying issues still remain and still need to be addressed.

New school looks to put ALL 4 of the Boone Co. schools into 5A. I have heard that the goal is 1200 students per school. Take 400 from Conner, 250 from Ryle and Boone, and 300 new students and we are there! Wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit, we've got some scores to settle with the Red Colonels.:madman:

Agreed on the need for upper 20 and lower 20 in the 6 class system. As I mentioned earlier, the problem is the outliers, the really large and really small schools that skew the numbers(or in this case percentages).

But HHS and CovCath HAVEN'T dominated those teams. My school, Ryle, in only its 4th year of existence, beat the mighty Bluebirds back in the 3A days. HHS and Boone and CovCath and Boone have played some great games, and I don't think one side can claim dominance, nor would they. Beechwood and Ryle played some great games in the late 90's as well. And I think what Mr. Sandman is trying to say is that its not like NKY 4A is the cream of the crop when it comes to 4A over the past few years. Do I think Beechwood, HHS, and CovCath would play close competitive games with the majority of current 4A? You betcha. Dominate? No way. And I don't think you'll get anyone from those schools to say that either.

Here's the difference. HHS- approx. 420 boys Top in current 3A - approx. 500 boys Beechwood - approx. 180 boys Top in currrent 1A - approx. 275 boys Ryle- approx. 750 boys Dixie- approx. 630 boys Top in current 4A - approx. 1450 boys Anyone see a BIG difference? No where else is the disparity so great for so many teams than in 4A. Is 6 classes the answer? I'm not sure. While HHS may not be at the top of current 3A in enrollment, they certainly aren't far off(80 boys) in comparison to Ryle(700 boys). In math terms, the problem is that we have a couple of outliers(T and X) that are skewing the numbers. T and X have almost 300 more boys than ALL others schools in 4A, no other class has one team with 300 more boys than the other.
