Holmes athlete Duran Jefferson has accepted a scholarship offer from UK.

DJ said on WLAP tonight that he is "still open" and its "only a verbal" but that he thinks he'll ultimately end up at UK.

I wish DJ well, I am very close to him and his family. I am sure when the time comes he will make the right choice. He can help UK's Football program and who know's what other offers may be placed in front of him in the future.

Congrats to Jefferson but this is only an oral commitment. With his ability I can see him getting some more looks this upcoming season. Brandent Englemon did the same thing his senior year...verbaled to UK but ended up at Michigan. I think his decision will all play out on how his senior season goes.

How many 16-17 year olds do you know that can decide what they are going to tommorrow? Not many. Now throw in added pressure to "verbal" with a team as a junior(the new "it" thing in college football), and its no wonder that so many kids back out of their decisions. And for the record, I'm pretty sure it wasn't DJ's idea that he should verbally commit to UK, I'm pretty sure UK wanted him to make a verbal commitment. Heck, I can't even get a 17 year old to verbally commit to cutting my grass once a week.

 

Congrats to DJ. Well deserved, and I've long been an admirer and supporter. Continue to work hard, and do what Coach Trosper asks, as I know you'll read this.

Any time a young man has the opprotunity to use his athletic abilities as a tool or a key to a free education I think that is to be commended. A local player at that. I think Duran will do what is best for him and he should, right now the best move is to be verbally committed to UK, if his stock goes up then he must weigh his options at that time. I think the sky is the limit for this kid and hope he takes advantage of it in the classroom as well. I would love to see this kid at UK, but as a local kid I will just be happy he is out of Covington and doing good things for himself.
