I assume you are referring to last year's Holmes/Ryle matchup. As we all know, things change greatly in H.S. football from year to year. If we were to reference last year, I'd say that Dixie pretty much took it to Ryle in the season finale, effectively, by your definition, "whipping" them. However, I wouldn't draw the conclusion that because they did it last year, that it will happen again this year. Holmes is a good team, at times. IMO, a lot of this Ryle confidence is eerily similiar to last year's team. Remember Raiders, it's not how you start, it's how you finish that matters.

I don't think anyone will dispute that Ryle is a very physical team. But to say that they will "whip" Holmes........I'm not so sure. First, I don't think that Ryle's offense is really going to "whip" anyone this year. Especially at this point and time. It's a ball control offense that grinds it out and wears defenses down, which is fine and very effective. But certainly not going to put up any "whipping" scores. Holmes has some very good athletes, and when they play their game, they aren't chopped liver. Holmes always sneaks up on someone every year that thinks they "outmatch" Holmes in every way. Don't let it happen Raiders!

What FBstud is trying to say is that Holmes has the ability to play with Ryle. On that point, I'd have to agree. They certainly are talented enough, but they make too many silly mistakes. FBstud is saying if they don't make those mistakes, they could very well find themselves in the ballgame with Ryle. But if they do make the mistakes, he is saying that Ryle will capitalize and the game will be a blowout. Sounds like a compliment towards the Raiders to me. Don't get me wrong, I think the latter(mistakes) will happen, as per my prediction. But Holmes is scary good at times, especially when they don't beat themselves. I am in agreeance with FBstud, this will either be a nailbiter, or a no doubter. Obviously, we all know which one I'm rooting for.

As my man from Hell's Kitchen would say, "Spot On." :thumb: As I said earlier, it all depends on which Holmes team comes to play. They are certainly capabale of beating the Raiders.

It all depends on which Bulldog team shows up. If Holmes comes out and gets and early lead, look out. If they put the ball on the ground, have a bunch of penalties, etc. it could get very ugly. I think the Ryle D once again gets "lucky" and forces a bunch of turnovers. Ryle 41 Holmes 12

This is about what I think as well. I don't think it will be a blowout by any means. However, it won't be 18 by the Cross unless they kick 6 FG's, they have an excellent kicker!

IMO this is the one that scares me the most. The thing is, our offense plays right into your hands, as your defense has always been very aggresive and very good at stopping the run. Especially the straightforward, line em up and knock em down run. I will say that for whatever reason, this is not last year's Dixie Colonels, and it won't mean a thing if you can't move the ball offensively. The game is at Ryle this year correct? Is it Monday again? Sure feels like it.....

Interesting game on paper. I'm quite certain that Newport's offense will get itsef on track this week. But Grant has an offense of their own, one that has been putting them up in bunches lately. Turnovers and special teams, like most games, decide this one. Newport has done a good job of not beating themselves this year, so I take the Wildcats. Newport 35 Grant Co. 21

I find it quite amusing that some of the rest of the state is now getting a taste of what we in 4A have been dealing with for some time now. I would also imagine these are some of the same who said, "numbers aren't everything", etc., etc. Here's a newsflash for all you guys that are so bummed out by the Mercer consolidation. You think you have it bad? Look at the enrollment differences in current 4A right now. The top two schools, we all know who they are, have more than double the enrollment of half of all of 4A! Welcome to the argument.......now you know how we in 4A feel!:lol:

At what point do we start talking about how good the Ryle defense is? Against NCC, they said "NCC shot themselves in the foot with 6 turnovers." Now against CC, the Camels "shot themselves in the foot all night with 8 turnovers." C'mon people, how about that Raider D? I'll agree that the score was close for 2 1/2 quarters, but really, the outcome was never in doubt. CC didn't get anything going offensively all night long, and just as in the NCC game, Ryle wore down CC's defense, and gained field positon thru spec. teams, and scored a couple of late touchdowns. I will say that the Camel QB is one tough kid, because he took some tremendous shots tonight. Not a real great thrower of the pigskin though, IMO, and made some poor decisions with the football in his hands. Another solid game for Scotty Gray, and Vince "johnny on the spot" Murray. Keep getting better each week Raiders, we haven't played our best game yet!

Sam is a tremendous kid, who absolutely works his tail off. I just wish we could have kept him at Ryle. Regardless of his football achievements, his parents should be very proud. BTW, that's some pretty nice company on that list!

Think I might have rubbed LSU wrong a little in another thread, and he's taking it out on my Raiders. On a side note, this was a HUGE win, IMO for Ryle. Down several players, to beat two quality opponents back to back, we've lost these types of games in years past. Enjoy this win guys, you deserve it!

So then you disagree with the many armbands that guys like McBroom, May, Orndorff(sp?), Brohm, etc. have worn over the years at Trinity right? As I stated, I personally don't care for it, but calling a kid out on the carpet over this just isn't right. Fact of the matter is, you have an impression about the way Ryle kids act.....from one game......and your going to apply that liberally to any and every Ryle player you may come across. To say that painting your face serves to motivate your opponent, well that's quite a reach you have there. You guys are good, but I don't think our kids go home at night and say, "Hey, lets wear eye black all over, that will really upset them." Honestly, your not THAT important. Trinity is good enough on their own. I honestly admire just about every facet of the program. Except this part, the "we do things a certain way, and if you do it differently then your wrong and its an insult to us." The T jumping thing was something our kids had done all year. But how dare a group of kids come to Trinity and have fun, how dare they. Just plain disrespectful.

How you ask? Because they are all KIDS!! Do you have to accumulate a certain amount of points, like rebates or something, before you can paint your face? If a kid wants to paint his face, let him....... I'm with proudmom. These guys bust their butts, and if they want to have a little fun painting their face, so be it. I personally don't care for it, but remember, these are kids......they are supposed to be having fun!

I don't particularly care for it either, but seriously, plenty of schools do fine with it too. Some school called Hoover High in Ala. has done pretty well doing it. I'm sure there are plenty more. Why do you HAVE to win if you do this kind of thing? Does it hurt Trinity's pride or insult them if some kid from Ryle paints his face? Kid's being kids, that's all. I would love for them to do away with all the wristbands, face paint, under armor all over, etc. but that is the culture we live in. If the kid wants to do it, so be it, but don't make a mountain out of a molehill. If I had my way, all of the teams would wear the old school Penn St. uni's, leather helmets, and the whole nine. Then we'd really be old school and we could talk about how fine we do without all of that color and protection and what not.

Personally, I'd love to see Scott turn the program around. But I just can't see them beating(or even competing) with Dixie this year or any other year for some time. I don't care if Dixie is down and Scott is up, 25 years of losing speaks for itself. A trend that long speaks volumes about how wrong something is in Taylor Mill. Scott feels disrespected? They shouldn't. They haven't done anything to earn any respect, so therefore they can't be shown dis-respect. As a previous post stated, the closest game in recent memory was a 30 point Dixie win. Respect is earned, not given. You want it, go get it.

What are your impressions of Dunbar's run defense? I'm a bit worried about a letdown after the large buildup and win last week vs. NCC. Ryle's defense is much better suited for stopping the pass rather than the run, IMO. Could be a low scoring affair with a field goal or PAT deciding the outcome. Speaking of that, what the heck is going on with Uminger? Anyone know why they missed 3 or 4 PAT's last week? Look for the Raiders to trail early, and rally back for a close win. Ryle 13-10.
