I thought Bethlehem could hang with E’town, but probably lose by 10 points, like Bardstown did. I’m not the only one by a long shot. Given the school’s limited postseason success history, that would’ve been a job well done and let’s see what happens next year with most everyone back. Pats on the back for all involved for making history. Bethlehem did something altogether different by dominating a team that was undefeated in the region, ranked as high as No. 3 in the state. I’m not sure entirely what to make of it because of how surprising it is, but it seems they didn’t want to wait for next year.

Pretty big stunner out of Green Co. tonight. I thought Bethlehem could hang with them, but they did more than that, flat-out taking it to top-5 E'town tonight from the get-go, building a double-digit lead six minutes into the game. The Banshees trailed 3-0 25 seconds in and then never again after a 9-0 run in response. They dominated on the glass against the taller Panthers, 37-18. Bethlehem had 18 offensive rebounds. Bethlehem's Mikiah Livers-Bryant went for 13 points and 17 rebounds (10 offensive) and Ella Thompson had 10 points and 12 rebounds. Amelia Hodges nailed four triples and had a game-high 21 points. Baeli Young added 11 points. Whitney Hay had 17 points to lead E'town, but the Banshees harassed the region POY into an uncharacteristic 3-for-16 shooting night. This is Bethlehem's first trip to state. The school has only ever been to the region finals one other time, and that was in 1976, the second year of girls' basketball's return as a KHSAA varsity sport.

John Hardin/Taylor County updates

For Taylor to keep it that close without Smith is surprising. -
Tigers shot very poorly in the first half and went into the break down 31-16 and were down 14 in the 4th before staging a huge comeback, cutting it to 1 late. Marion led by 4 when Bardstown scored with just under 10 seconds to play. Tigers got the steal but couldn’t get a shot off late. There was some discussion after the final buzzer among officials as to whether there was a MC foul on the final play before zeroes (lots of contact) but the lead official waved the game final.

Bardstown — more specifically, JJ Traynor — dominated in this game. Traynor had 26 points and 18 rebounds, and had I don't know how many blocks. It felt like 8 or 9, and he altered probably twice that many shots. Also had 4 dunks, including a beautiful oop play. Packed gym at Bethlehem tonight. Great crowd. Tough loss for Thomas Nelson, who had played Bardstown close in two losses in the regular season. Their senior bunch leaves having set the new school record for wins at 18, and an amazing job done by coach Chris Tolliver and his team in turning around a program that had won a grand total of 9 games the four previous seasons. They have a lot to be proud of. If Bardstown plays like they did tonight, they can make some noise in the region.
