Corbin 96 North Laurel 52
Looks like the Hounds got a little wake up call last night from South Laurel and took out their aggression on South's cross town counterpart. Excellent bounce back win against a pretty hot North Laurel team.

South Laurel 66 Corbin 58
I still think that Corbin is without a doubt one of the top 6 or 7 teams in the state. This is a good win for South Laurel and I would have been lying if I said I didn't expect this. This rivalry is one where you can throw out the records. No loss is a good loss but hopefully it'll re-focus Corbin. They have a tough game tomorrow against North Laurel on account of this game tonight being rescheduled to tonight. I wouldn't rule out another upset by the Jags. Hopefully Corbin will bounce back and go on a tear.

Corbin/South Laurel game will be played 1-29-09 at 6:30 p.m.
During the state tournament year South didn't schedule Corbin in the regular season after Corbin knocked them off in 05. I know a lot of us Corbin fans were really hoping that we would have met up in the state tourney. Not saying they were scared to play but it was the only year I ever remember the two not playing and never figured it out. Tomorrow night is the night and the games going to be played. I have a bad feeling about this one but don't necessarily think it will be a bad thing if Corbin wins. I would however like to have a 5 game win streak over South going into next season.

Intentional foul, dirty play, cheap shot, etc.
That's basically what I figured. Technically if a ref wanted to call it strictly by the book they could call the intentional but it seems to just be an unwritten rule that is mutually understood between coaches and officials.

Corbin @ South Laurel "canceled"
This is the 3rd and final regular season matchup between these two. Corbin won the first by 10 or 12 and second by 18-20. Both games were at Corbin. How do the Hounds stack up with the Cards in London? Does SL go in thinking we can't beat these guys? Does Corbin go in thinking it's going to be another cake walk or do both teams come in ready for battle in this intense rivalry? I think South Laurel will try to make this a slow down game. Corbin is going to have to dictate the tempo. Like them or not, Coach Wright and company know how to prepare. The more they see you, the more they learn. I expect Corbin to pull out this one 52-46

Should there be an AA State Tournament?
I really wasn't sure what kind of gyms they had. I'd add them in place of Rupp and Cheatum Hall.

Should there be an AA State Tournament?
You could set aside a week and weekend for them during the mid season. I would do this for all 6 classes. All A- Morehad AA- EKU AAA WKU AAAA- Memorial AAAAA- Rupp AAAAAA- Freedom Hall I personally think you could keep it as is but if you are going to do a A and AA, may as well do them all.

Mountain teams and their schedules
Does anyone have a clue about Corbin's schedule? I've heard Boyle and Danville both are coming to Pigskin Classic but am not sure.

Intentional foul, dirty play, cheap shot, etc.
I would say an intentional is grabbing the jersey as stated, wrapping a player up when going up for a dunk/layup and things of the sort. Flagrant fouls are just pushing them down when going for a layup, elbow, push, slap, and anything just short of figting. I do have this question though. I also think it is very hypocritical and pretty much stupid. You will always get called for the intentional when grabbing jersey, and things i described when teams have the ball. At the end of close games, the team that is down is always grabbing the jersey, wrapping up, slapping, and clearly not making a play for the ball. When or why did this become an exception? This is clearly without question an intentional foul. It should result in the shots plus retaining of possession.

North Laurel 69 Henry Clay 65
Henry Clay isn't a real big threat state wide but they have beaten Bryan Station by 3, lost by 5 to Station in the first meeting, and beaten Dunbar. This is a very nice win for the Jaguars. Congrats to them. It's my understanding that the 49th still draws. It never was in much doubt but I think it's safe to say that if they are on different sides, you can almost pencil in North and Clay going to region.

Interview with Corbin's Josh Crawford
That's one thing I have always respected about the Corbin program. You can always count on the Corbin athletes being very well mannered and all around good kids. The athletic program excels in just about every sport as well. Teaching these kids how to play the game and more importantly teaching these kids how to live life reflects on the great parenting and coaching in the community.

Corbin 79 Whitley County 57
How'd this one shake out? Corbin get up big, sub down, and Whitley cut it closer? Corbin pull away at the end or did it stay about 20 throughout the game?

Good story on South Laurel's Matt St. John
I hope he turns out to be great. It's no surprise that I'm no fan of South but I love to see kids from this area do well and go on to bigger and better things. I too think St. John is better than Euton. UK and major D1 may be stretching it a little bit based on athleticism but I could see him having a great 4 year career at a Western, Dayton, UAB, type of D1 school. Hopefully he can keep improving himself though and become these things. He obviously has the work ethic. I remember when he was a freshman, I thought, here is a chubby mountain kid that couldn't jump over a golf tee, where is this hype coming from? As he has matured and gotten older, I have became more and more impressed with him.

BGP Rankings 1/22/09
As they say #2 is only the last loser. It'll shake out in March and on Saturday evening, we'll have the only poll that only matters. That poll will consist of 1 team..the champs.

Bill Keightly Laurel County Hoopfest
Holmes should take care of Largo. Unless Largo got some transfers in, they lost their two best players from last year. Corbin gave them all they wanted up at Lexington Catholic.

AP Poll Jan. 20
I'd flip flop Corbin and Catholic considering Corbin beat them pretty convingly for 29 minutes of the game until LC hit everything. I'm not too sure there are 8 teams that could beat Corbin 2 outta 3 times. The way they are playing right now, maybe 3 or 4 could. Overall pretty good top 10 though. There other receiving votes are kinda messed up though. Anderson County should definitely be in this top 10 or 15 at the very very worst. Oh well, it's just a poll. Like I say, they are just for fans to debate. They will play themselves out in February and March.

Corbin 75 Harlan County 47
I just went to KHSAA and was doing some figuring. Since Corbin has been on this 14 game win streak after losing to Scott, they have been winning by 77-47 margin. Overall they are averagine 71 and some change while giving up 51 and some change.

Corbin 75 Harlan County 47
Physical game tonight. Lots of bumping, banging, and diving on the floor. No major altercations but several warnings by the refs for players getting a little too rough. Harlan County has a very nice starting five but the bench lacks a little bit. That was the difference. Corbin jumped out to the big lead and the big 4 of Crawford, Johnson, Smith, and Wilson sat 90% of it. I liked the beating and banging in this game. It'll toughen both teams up for tourney time. I'd say these were without question the two most physical teams in the 13th. Harlan County will be fine, especially if Green and Simmons get hot. Caldwell didn't play too much either because of fouls or injuries but most nights he will give you a big night on the blocks. Corbin just seems to be a little too much for the region right now. The starting 5 is dominant and they don't miss a beat with the first 3 or 4 off the bench.

13th region may be better than the pundits think
Bell has the talent to knock someone off but I've just not seen it from em in the couple times I've saw them play. I don't have a thing against them but something just doesn't seem right. I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's just taking them longer to get outta football mode. Until they start playing better, that district is Harlan County and Middlesboro's to lose in my opinion.

Corbin 63 Wayne County 51
Hounds have Breathitt at Home today don't they? Harlan County on Tuesday???

Corbin 63 Wayne County 51
Good to see the Hounds win this one. Wayne scared me and to be honest, I had a hunch that Corbin would slip up to the Cards. Not necessarily because I think Wayne is better but they are talented, well coached, and Corbin has been on a tear. All good things come to an end. Glad to see that my bad feeling was proven wrong. Hopefully that good thing for Corbin won't come to an end until the State Title game.
