I’ve watched OHS play Mayfield, CAL, Owensboro Catholic, & BG(2X). All these teams seem so much more imaginative on offense then the Red Devils. The difference between these two programs is the way one uses their athletes. One is pass, pass, run, pass. The other is run, run, pass, then punt. Wash rinse repeat. I feel bad for Delacey because BG is going to make him throw the ball but this offense hasn’t prepared him to win a game with his arm.

Owensboro looked good on the opening drive against BG at Rash Stadium. Ran it right down the Purples throat. But after that BG adjusted and there was very little running room for OHS. The game will come down to Delacey completing enough passes to make BG pay for stacking the box. Because I believe that’s what we’ll see tonight. Owensboro’s OC will need to call a game similar to what he did against South Warren.

I prefer neutral sites for playoff games after the 2nd round.

Delacey is going to have to either throw the ball out of bounds or take the sack when the pressure closes in. If he does that this will be a closer game this go round. If not it'll be about like the first meeting. I expect BG to sell out against the run so it might be tough sledding for Hampton and Winstead. Crowe had a good game for OHS the first time. He may be the X factor again for the Red Devils next week. I just don't think it'll be enough. 35-20 BG

I posted after the Owensboro scrimmage that it would be an upset if Mayfield didn’t make it to the 2A state championship game. I still believe that. Congrats to the Cardinals.

Red Devils are making some head scratching calls on offense.

I think most Red Devil fans felt there needed to be some changes made on defense or there wouldn't be a deep playoff run. The staff made some changes....

Owensboro has typically done well against Louisville teams who aren't the big 3. I think that continues this week.

Great win by the Red Devils! Moving some kids around on defense has helped the Red & Black. Glad the staff finally made that move. If Delacey doesn't throw INT's OHS will be a tough out for anybody still playing in 5A.

Congrats to Madisonville on the win. The Red Devils have a lot of fans that look at things through Red & Black lenses. This team was flawed from jump in a lot of key areas. And once this staff refused to play select kids both ways it was, IMO, a build for the future. Nothing I've seen this year showed me OHS would make it passed the 2nd round of the playoffs. Even before this loss to the Maroons. Now next year should be a lot different. I'll be disappointed if OHS isn't at least a 5A semi finalist in 2024.

Madisonville usually plays the Red Devils tough at home. 28-21 Owensboro.

No inside info but once they came back to KY the chances of them still going to Michigan were pretty much over IMO.

I have felt that way too. Trinity kinda went into Ohio and started pushing the GCL around. Or at least was winning at like a 50% clip. St X went into Ohio and has gotten handled at like a 95% clip. The GCL is one of the better conferences in America IMO so it's no shame in losing to those teams. I just thought St. X would have adjusted better.

No surprise that this game was close. You take the road W and get back to work. Still wish the Red Devils would play 2-3 kids both ways.

I said in the pre-season thread, or maybe the 1st game thread, that OHS could start the year 1-5 or 2-4. The Red Devils lost a lot, and although there is talent on the roster, it was unproven. Owensboro Catholic is a well coached team, that is very fundamentally sound, but IMO I didn’t see a state championship caliber club Friday. Unless LCA,Mayfield, or Beechwood start piling up a bunch of key injuries. As far as the Red Devils go they’re going to have to seriously consider playing 2-3 kids both ways some if they want to maximize their potential in the playoffs. The secondary has been a huge problem.

Catholic beat a much better Owensboro team last year and went about where they have historically gone in the playoffs(3rd rnd). I think the Aces are the same caliber team this year. They could beat Owensboro again and not advance past the 3rd rnd of the 2A playoffs because of the potential match up with Mayfield,LCA,or Beechwood.

There is a guy on Facebook named James Green who goes live for all the Owensboro varsity games. (Heck he usually streams the freshman and JV games as well.) His page is public and he does an awesome job streaming the games.

If this game were at Catholic I think the Devils would be in big trouble. With it being at Rash Stadium give me the Devils 31-28.

I know this is a good “gate” game but I wish OHS would take DC off the schedule.

The bigger question for me is what was going on before Frederick Douglas existed?? From what I remember Lexington produced D1 talent but not near the # of Power 5 level kids. Is the staff for the Bronco’s just doing a better job of showcasing their kids??
