Frederick Douglass Football

Recommended Posts

Not sure whether to post this in the high school or college thread. But this is pretty cool.

Absolutely insane that 6 kids from the same HS in Lexington will be sharing the same stage Saturday at Kroger field. So proud of them, and all of our broncos, for having the opportunity to play football at the next level. Frederick Douglass Football is different!

Definitely pretty amazing the amount of top talent they have produced these last few years. It’s still crazy that somehow they only won one title with all that talent, especially since they were even in 6A those years.

They have now been in 6A for 3 of their 7 seasons they have been a school. It’s not easy just look for example all of the talent (one and done) Kentucky and Duke has put into the NBA over the last 15 years and between them they only have 3 titles (Duke 2 and Kentucky 1).

The bigger question for me is what was going on before Frederick Douglas existed?? From what I remember Lexington produced D1 talent but not near the # of Power 5 level kids. Is the staff for the Bronco’s just doing a better job of showcasing their kids??

Coach McPeek works tirelessly to promote his kids. He usually spends a lot of his fall and spring breaks taking kids to showcases around the country and also a lot of his bye weeks going with his kids to official visits to colleges. I know for a fact a few years ago he took his time to go with Jagger Burton and his family to Oregon for a visit and I know he went with Walker Parks and his family to Clemson for an official visit. Their saying is: "Bronco Football Built Different".

I've said that many times.  With all due respect to other coaches, I think he does the best job in the state of promoting his players.  I've also said that because of that, he does the best job in the state of helping his kids get offers one level higher than their talent level might actually be (I.e. FBS P5 offers that might be G5 talent, kids getting FBS G5 offers that are probably FCS talent, etc.).  Now I'm not saying all of the FD kids, but definitely some.

Completely agree. He promotes better than anyone in the state right now and therefore attracts the best of the best to his program. The only coach close, IMO, is Coach Haddix at BC. As long as Coach McPeek stays at FD, I believe they will be the premier program in the sate for the foreseeable future. I know that is a bold statement with X, Trinity, BG, Boyle, etc. but I just see them rising to a level that Trinity was at with Beatty.

As long as you can keep "attracting" top notch talent good things happen. You can promote your players all you want but if they are not big enough, fast enough,  athletic enough, or buying in to the program, those Power 5 or even Group of 5 are not buying what you're selling. Just my opinion.

From Coach McPeek. Player Development is important for us, these numbers also help young men get recruited at the next level because it's analytical data that colleges use. Go Broncos! Keep working!

Douglass players were flying around the field Saturday and the results prove it. These were the team leaders of each category. Ed Towle works with Catapult to ensure players are exerting the proper amount of energy in practice and games. Nathan McPeek
