Football is hard. We (Brossart) learned this back in 2007 when we jumped into varsity football, thinking that we were successful and competitive at everything else that we did - Why Not Football?? It took us two years to get our first win, and we had to go to Betsy Layne to accomplish that feat, and then when we were relegated to 2A a few years later, we almost went out of the football business. I don't think that it will take the Cru that long. They've got a lot of kids on their roster, and I suspect that many of them are graduates of the NKYFL. There is actually a team or two on their schedule this year that could fall prey to them. For the first twelve minutes tonight they did some rally good stuff, and after that first period, we led merely 7-3. Beyond that it was all Brossart. Nick Cozzi ran back two punts for TDs. Landon Spaulding threw to Landon Ruth for a TD. Quinten Tischner and Anthony Schuck rushed for two more, while Freshman Charlie Rauch threw to Sophomore Ray Scharf for another as time expired in the running clock. Max Runge connected on a perfect 7 of 7 PATs. The Crusaders' lone touchdown came in the first quarter when Brady Aubuchon nailed a 37 yard Field Goal. The Mustangs have a tall task ahead next Friday night when the Bracken County Polar Bears come to call at the MAC. They have had a bye week to sting from their loss to Holy Cross a week ago.

"Every announcer today has to consider every word that comes out of his mouth for fear of what reprisal will come to make ownership or management mad. I disagree with it. A lot of people felt like I had the free rein to say what I want, and they appreciated it. You could never go down that path today and be successful." I think he is right, to extremes, where the present day broadcasters have to glorify the product and put earrings on the pig. We hear it every night from Sadek and Larkin. Always the best, the greatest, etc.. It is what makes me hate the Reds organization so badly. There is no objectivity. No honesty. Always excuses. Following each error or bone-headed play, Larkin follows with an excuse. Always excuses. I agree with Marty. Having a lot of the experience and notoriety he had, he became a "Sacred Cow" and the organization tolerated his criticisms of some of the players, and the organization. There is no way that they would tolerate it from a newbie. That is why Sadek is so over-glowing on everything Reds to a fault. Even if he wasn't I would hate him anyway. I just can't stand his "every play is the seventh game of the World Series" style. The media of this city makes all of our sports teams something that they are not, and this leads to let-downs and disappointment on an annual basis because we don't live up to the hype. Pure and Simple.

Having played Walton, and with Ludlow an upcoming district opponent, I am interested in this one.

We are 16 games out of first-place. Certainly nothing to be proud of. I'm truly sorry that our current fan base is relegated to pinning our dreams on some chase of a backdoor hope that didn't even exist back when MLB baseball was truly ML. I have no use for Hunter Greene then, nor now. He has let you down again this year, and will continue to do so in the future. Hunter Greene cares about one thing - Hunter Greene. Your turn!

To me, this whole "Playoff" chase is a major marketing scheme to sell tickets. We will be in a marketing "Playoff Race" until the day that we are mathematically eliminated. The fact of the matter is that we are 16 1/2 games our of first place, the only "Playoff Race" that we oldsters had when we were kids. Even in recent years you didn't hear much about the "Wildcard Race" until the last few weeks of the season. Here in Cincinnati, our media has been marketing the Wildcard Race since prior to the All-Star Game. We are clinging to straws. Our King has no clothes. Groveling in hopes of being eliminated in a one-done "Playoff Game" for which I'm sure we would sell T-Shirts and hang a banner. 16 and a 1/2 games out of first place. Focus on that and tell me how proud you are of this team. We are still running 65-70 players through our roster and there is no stability in our lineup nor clubhouse. Tito has already secured his spot in Cooperstown. I fail to see, nor hear, much passion from him. Always the same "Get 'em next time story after every loss." I do feel sorry for those who did not experience the Reds at their finest, and expected to be in playoffs and World Series, and are holding out hopes for this dog that we are being marketed into thinking we are in a "Playoff Race." Sad!

As a broadcaster, I always appreciated the number either on the side of the helmet, or on the shoulder of the jersey.

Polar Bears go into a bye week, will come to Alexandria on Sept. 12th to play Brossart.

We definitely have the feeling that the big one got away tonight. Sayre's Carson Graves ran the opening kickoff back 65 yards to the Brossart 20 yard line, and until 38 seconds remaining in the game that was pretty much that for the Sayre offense. Neither team was able to dent the scoring column in the first half. Sayre had a big chance with 1:36 remaining in the half, when they missed on a 33 yard Field Goal that caromed off of the upright. With 3:39 to play in the third quarter Brossart's Brady Boruske forced a Sayre Safety, giving the home team a 2-0 lead. At the top of the third period, Brossart threatened by marching the ball 67 yards, which resulted in a 20 yard Max Runge touchdown upping the Mustang lead to 5-0., with 7:06 to play in the game. It would not be until 38 ticks remained on the clock until Sayre broke a big play, moving the ball from their own 29 to the Brossart 11, and an ensuing 11 yard touchdown pass to Paul Miller, gave the Sayre their first score and lead on the night and a two point conversion sealed the deal with 38 seconds to go. Devastating loss for our Mustangs.

Always happy for my good friend Coach Paul Wiggins and his Cats. Not only a lopsided victory but it was played on the Red Turf at Ludlow. Newport has played Ludlow the previous two years. In 2023 the Cats eeked out a 16-14 win, and last year prevailed 34-32. While I would have taken Newport in a poll, I never would have expected the that dominance shown here. It will be interesting to see if the Cats can play with Lloyd next week at home.

NFHS is bad. Always has been and always will be. When it came into being it was, and still is a KHSAA fund-raiser. NFHS gives you the cameras, wishes you the best of luck, and the KHSAA takes a huge slice of the subscription fees They then bully you into hooking up with them, by charging a substantial post-season games broadcast fee, if you are not enrolled in NFHS. Ours at Brossart are equally poor quality, and they are getting old. It will be interesting to see if NFSH/KHSAA decides to replace them or simply let them die of old age and phase out the NFHS program.

I am happy for the Polar Bears. They have a nice team, and it must be gratifying to hand their "Big Brothers" a loss.

I too am a bit surprised by this score. NCC has had the upper hand with the Juggs in recent history, but Lloyd is always capable of playing a strong game.

Pretty good descriptions rendered above. After watching our two pre-season scrimmages, where we looked very cohesive, I felt that we were out of synch for much of the night on offense. Credit Walton, they stood us up on defense, and did a great job defending our receivers. It took over 3 hours to play this game. Brossart rarely draws anywhere close to the numbers of flags assessed against us tonight, especially in the first half. This is something that can and I expect that we will improve on moving forward. Following our two pre-season scrimmages, and having come to Walton and winning big a year ago, I had high hopes that we might win sizably, and look good doing it here tonight, which was not the case. I'm thinking neither fan base were overly enthralled which their team's performance tonight. There were some outstanding individual efforts. Brayden Donato intercepted a Brossart pass for a Pick-Six. Cooper Burch and A.J. Yutze were dominant on defense. Mustang Junior Quarterback Landon Spaulding threw two touchdown passes, one to Nick Cozzi and the other to Isaac Amin. Our Blue-chip kicker, Max Runge nailed a 29 yard Field Goal which gave the Mustangs 15, which was enough to win on this night. The Mustangs return home next Friday night, hosting the class 1A State Champion Sayre Spartans. We will have to take a step forward in order to be 2-0 a week from now.

We have played well in our two pre-season scrimmages - Boone County and Scott. We have been effective on both sides of the ball, and seem to be transitioning nicely to whichever of our two Junior quarterbacks, Landon Spaulding or Tripp Wilson, gets the call. We have a veteran receiving corps, and perhaps the top placekicker/punter all of Class 1a and perhaps in the state in Senior Soccer-Stang Max Runge. A year ago he connected on 53 of 55 PAT attempts. It will be up to the team to provide him with enough touchdowns to compete for that distinction. I look for a strong outing at Walton Friday night. Listen Live: webca.st/267593

St. Patrick has never won a 10th Region Championship. In 2000 St. Patrick destroyed Mason County in the 39th District Tournament. Brossart and St. Pat. faced each other in the 10th Region Semi-Finals. The Mustangs narrowly defeated St. Patrick that night and went on to beat Mason County in the championship game. I will always remember how devastated the St. Patrick fans were, knowing that if they had beaten Brossart, they would have assuredly won the region that year.

Wondering if dropping to NKAC DivIII and having to play many smaller schools had any bearing on these decisions.

Congratulations to Lex on taking on this challenge. The Saints had many respectable seasons during his previous tenure. Hopefully, he will be able to breath some life into the St. Patrick's basketball program and keep a few players home. I wish him the best of luck.

I totally agree on "great hire." I was extremely impressed with Jordan during his tenure at Mason County, always willing to go the extra mile to provide every opportunity for his athletes and those of the 10th Region. I wish he and Nelson County the best of everything moving forwrad.

I am extremely happy for the Dayton program, AND happy for those worked in the old press box at Davis Field. I will not miss the 63 steep steps leading up to the top of the facility. The steps had rotted out over the years and were hazardous going up and moreso, coming down, often with the lights off, while carrying equipment.. She was a grand old stadium, but definitely time for a change. Am looking forward to visiting the new digs!!!

True, NCC would qualify for Div-III by enrollment. They too, opted to play in Div-II since we privates joined the NKAC Conference.

They can petition the Board who must approve the move. By enrollment, Brossart and Holy Cross would still qualify for Division III. We played Division III from 1991 through 1996 and won the Division each year during that period. Previous to that we played in a small school conference called the NKIAC (Northern Kentucky Independent Athletic Conference). In 1997 we moved up to Division II which accelerated our schedule, which I think made us more competitive. Since joining Division II, we have won the NKAC D-II Conference race, or a share of it, on three occasions - 2005, 2007, and 2009. Since we are a 10th Region team, it provides us a nice foundation of 9th Region teams. Beechwood followed us to D-II a few years later. It took them a few years to become competitive at that level, but presently they are a bona fide, competitive member of the Division. I believe that with the All "A" an the All 2A, plus the travel trips that big schools take, the NKAC is no longer a major priority among the member schools. Districts were not seeded back then, so District Seeding games did not carry the importance that they presently do. If you talk to Ken Shields he will tell of the great Conference battles between Highlands and Lloyd, etc. Bob Miller and Roland Vories were instrumental in showcasing the NKAC. We had a banquet which was a first class event. I remember one of those being held in the early days of the Quality Inn Riverfront (the Revolving Restaurant) back in the early 90's. Times change.
