Ashland will get turf and new lighting done after this season.

Russell should make a good run at district title east carter would be biggest threat I’d think. I figured they’d drop Ashland and keep Raceland Ik Ashland travels well but would think Raceland would bring more to a game.

Arils Beach from Ashland in 2001 but was signed by Green Bay as a free agent. Didn’t make it because of a severe high ankle sprain but was on IR for the season so got rookie minimum. My brother ran into him during a middle school football game this past fall said he still looked like he was ready to play. He was a great kid we just had an extremely bad HC at the time he played at Ashland. I don’t know of any others from Ashland but Fairview had a stud running back in late 2000’s that made onto Cleveland roaster if I’m not mistaken played 3-4 years.

It will be interesting to see if they’re going thru with it or just feasibility possibility. When I was in high school at Ashland rumors were going around of Ashland, Boyd Co and Fairview merging that was in early 80’s. Carter Co I think would possibly benefit from it in the long run.

I’ve wonder about this for a few years but how many KY HS football players won a state championship and then go on to play college football and win a championship there too? Ik 2 to start with my brother was starting left tackle and defensive end for the 1990 Ashland state champions and went on to play at Marshall being left tackle when they went 1-2 in 3 straight national AA championship games. He was followed to Marshall by Chris Hutt(he was a junior) who was starting tail back on the 90 team and kickoff returner before career ending knee injury on a kickoff return at a home during the 92 season when they won the schools first championship. We were all talking a few months ago and it got me wondering Ik there’s got to be bunch and no matter the numbers it’s an elite group to be in.

Good news for Ashland Ik they had to post it only question was if him not teaching in the Ashland school system, he is current teaching at the Summit federal prison making better money and retirement benefits verses public schools.

Has anyone heard who they have returning and who might be hired as new HC also just how many games is the KHSAA going to allowing them to play this season/?

Can’t be anything but proud of how Ryan handled stepping into the HC position 2 weeks before the season started and how these young men bought into his plan. Congrats to WC and hope you guys finish this off with a championship. For the young tomcats they should be in excellent position to repeat as 16th region champions and this game shows them the work that needs to be done in the off season to be better prepared for a deep run in March.

Watched it on NFHS great game both teams and the officials let be physical to a point which made the game fun to watch. Owensboro has nothing to be ashamed of hey left it all on the court. Good luck to coach Bonner and the Tomcats on Friday evening.

My favorite quote from Leon was after the game and we’re outside the locker room and the boys are coming out some still sobbing and he looks at them and said guys the sun is still going to raise in the morning. It’s kinda stuck with me over the years next to losing to Bell Co a few years later 13-3 in a driving rainstorm at Putnam no other loss hurt as as much as that game in 2003. We had 2 chances to get a first down around your 30-35 yard line in the later part of the 3rd quarter and you guys stopped us that pretty much took a ton of wind out our sails. Tony and Leon had planned that if you was going to beat us it was because we forced Grutza to run the ball because we didn’t want torched by Lofton(might be wrong on his name but he killed us first game).

We lost to Mason twice that year. Me my brother who was assistant coach at Ashland and Tony Love went the Ft Thomas game. It was always cold there with wind and snow flurries every time we played Ft Thomas. I kinda miss those days now but rather watch a game live streamed now than be on a press box roof in the cold?

Being an Ashland guy I really thought the cats were a year away from returning to Rupp but after the loss to Boyd Co in the district final they went to Morehead lasered focused and won all 3 games by double digits. I think their game with Owensboro should be a good game and depending on Ashland's shooting touch if it’s on it could be a win for them but if they go cold their defense will keep it close but they won’t be able to get the W in my opinion.

I was surprised how well coach Davis had her kittens playing defense but the second quarter was their undoing and it was only a 4 minute or so lapse but it allowed the mustangs to grab the double digit lead. The kittens return everyone but one senior I believe so they should be a force in the 16th region again next year. Congrats to the lady mustangs and good luck tomorrow morning.

Really surprised at score but don’t know if Boyd was still recovering from OT game last night but was hindered by the one kid playing thru the foot injury. Congrats to Ashland and Boyd should be reloaded for next year.

Ik at Ashland in the early 2000’s when my brother was still an assistant coach they got 6% of their salary from teaching but if you was a paid assistant that didn’t teach it was 6% of a first year teacher. I think even the HC was 6% from my understanding. They got their pay spread out over the school year if I remember correctly. Now the booster club may have slid some money to the HC but even Dicky Martian would never say if they did or not. My brother always complained by the time you averaged out the hours they put verses pay it was less than half of minimum wage so you had to love coaching young men to put in the time required and for that I have the upmost respect for all coaches at the high school level.

I figured as much too but wasn’t sure. I think Ashland might get moved to 4A my son’s junior class along with freshman and sophomores might push them back up.

I’m surprised to be tied for first after I asked my wife to pick the games and we see where that got me???

I’d love to see the tomcats win this one but I said in the first part of the season we were starting freshman on the O and D lines and in the secondary had at times 3 freshman playing. The O line the center has started the entire season is a freshman. They’re truly building for runs deep into the playoffs for the next 3 seasons. You see them progressing during the 1-3 start to the season and the last 4 games they’ve came out and played almost as physical as the 90 Ashland team but they’re still young and even though road trips don’t seem to bother them their secondary is the weak link in their defense(they gave up almost 500yds passing in the Gorge Washington game that they lost 14-7) so if CAL gets time to throw the ball it’ll be a long/short night for them.
