New Turf 2023

Featured Replies

It seems like a lot of schools are getting new turf in 2023. For some schools it is their first turf field, for others it is replacing their turf field. Let's use this thread to list the schools getting new turf, tell whether it is new or replacement and post a pic of the COMPLETED field when it is finished. (Please put work in progress pictures in a separate team thread like the others that are already posted.)

Greenwood’s field is new turf. They are getting a total remodel… new field, Health and Wellness Center, etc. Field is done so they will be able to play on it. The Wellness Center hasn’t been started yet. They had a hiccup with a large sinkhole that had to be fixed.

Both John Hardin and North Hardin are replacing naural grass fields with new turf for the upcoming season. John Hardin is also adding more bleachers on the south end of the field.

In NKY, Lloyd is also getting turf for the upcoming season.

Pendleton does not have turf at the moment, but will be installed by 2024.

Hancock Co turf has been completed for this season

I wonder who was the first school in Kentucky to get a home on campus turf field and what year any help?

Highlands and Lexington Catholic are two that come to mind, both in the early 2000s I would guess.

All 3 Bullitt County schools have added turf, new seating & new digital scoreboards.  I know this is phase one of major facility upgrades.  Bullitt East also got new tennis courts and a new track separate from the football field this year & scheduled to get a new indoor facility next year, that if what I’m hearing is accurate, will be pretty impressive with what it has and easily amongst the best in the state.

Dixie Heights was one of the first in N Ky to build a new athletic complex with turf field. I think it was opened around 2006?

Highlands was the first to get field turf in 2002, and Beechwood followed them with their first turf field in 2003. I think Cov Cath got their first in either 2003 or the following year. I’m pretty sure those 3 schools were the first in NKY to get turf.
