Has he been coaching somewhere previously?

Lawrence Buell was one of the best players that I saw play against Somerset, while I was in high school from 84-88. We saw some good ones: Ritchie Farmer, Reggie Hanson, Shannon Fraley, Felton Spencer, the whole Oak Hill Academy roster, Prince Stewart, and a bunch more. But he definitely made my top 10 opponents list. We beat Middlesboro, on a last second jump shot, then beat Clay County in Farmer's sophomore season in a Christmas Tournament at Pulaski. Unfortunately, we ran out of gas and couldn't get by the Maroons, who would go on to win the Sweet Sixteen, in the finals. Buell later went on to finish on a lot to LMU's top 10 career lists.

I wonder if he is related to Middlesboro star Lawrence Buell, from the 80s?

@LethalPG I had heard earlier in the spring that the Jumpers might be getting a freshman transfer from Taylor County for football. It looks like he also played basketball. Did that come to pass, and will he play both at Somerset?

Boyd was truly the engine that drove the team, there is no doubt about that. However, it was also try that having the 2 bigs protecting the basket, made it a lot easier to sell out and jump in the passing lanes. If he read it wrong, or didn't quite get there, he had 2 big mistake erasers behind him. They were a really nice combination.

I was told today that Greer has already moved on, and will not be part of the Warriors 2025 staff. Can anyone confirm?

So far we've had coaching changes at three 11th Region schools: Sean Woods is the new head coach at Scott County. Mac McIntosh is the new head coach at Franklin County. Paul Laurence Dunbar remains open. Any word on any transfers in or out at any of the schools?

Any word on this opening? Summer games should be starting.

Even though the addition of Belfry to 2A makes it a tougher road for my Briar Jumpers, I hope they are able to sustain the level of excellence the program reached under Coach Haywood. They're such an important part of the landscape of Kentucky High School football.

How about Clinton County?

It shouldn't be too big of a surprise. Last season he led the league in: strikeouts, errors, and caught stealing. He also led the league in stolen bases. This season he's leading the league in errors, he's 2nd in strikeouts, and 7th in caught stealing (3 behind the leader), and he's 4th in stolen bases. His talent is electric. But his game has some rough spots.

With the way that the seeding works now, couldn't both CAL and Central reach the state semi-finals where they would be reseeded against the 2 surviving East teams? If CAL wins the district, and Central finishes 2nd, they wouldn't meet in the 2nd round. The 3rd round is reseeded by RPI, with the #1 in the West vs #4 in the West, and #2 in the West vs #3 in the West. So, if Central's RPI is 2nd or 3rd in the West, they wouldn't play CAL in that round either. If both survive to the final four, it would be reseeded again by RPI. With Rockcastle, and Bell County not having a lot of strong RPI teams you could end up with the 2 teams in the East against the 2 teams in the West. That would mean that an team from the East might not make it Kroger Field. It could be 2 teams from the West, 2 teams from the East, or one from each. The only way that a team from the East is guaranteed an appearance in the finals is if the seeding puts the teams in the East at #1 and #4 or #2 and #3 where they will play each other in the semi-finals.

In conjunction with the new facility, one tradition at Somerset will be no more. The stairs leading from the fieldhouse, up to the field will be taken out. Going up those stairs before games was something that most of us former players will always remember. With that being said, there will be one last chance to walk the steps. Before the spring game on May 6th, at 600pm, all alumni are invited to take a final walk up the stairs to the field before they go away. I'm planning on climbing them one more time....

The 2024-25 season saw the Sweet Sixteen Champion come out of the 11th Region. Great Crossing cut down the nets in Rupp after completing a 35-4 campaign that saw then lose only a single game to a Kentucky opponent. The Warhawks championship run capped off a great two year run that saw Great Crossing finish with a record of 71-6, with only 2 losses to Kentucky teams. Gone from those teams, however, is the dynamic duo of Mr. Basketball Malachi Moreno, and Vince Dawson. Dawson and Moreno combined to average 39.5 points, and 20.2 rebounds. In addition, fellow seniors Gage Richardson, Junius Burrell, Jamari Mason, Javonte Dean, and Ryan Payne will graduate in May. Will the Warhawks have enough to defend their back to back 11th Region Championships? Will Frederick Douglass, who had 8 juniors on the 2024-25 roster, and only lost to the Warhawks by 2 in the regional finals dethrone Great Crossing? How about Bryan Station, who return their own dynamic duo of Amari Owens and Taeshawn Adams? How about Lexington Catholic, who only graduate 2 seniors from the 23-10 regional semi-finalists? How do you see it all playing out?

I didn't think that FBS schools could extend official offers until June 15th before the player's junior season.

I think as soon as school gets out the 2nd week in May. It is supposed to be finished by the end of the year.

I was told it would have a 70 yard indoor practice field.

Also, on the inbounds play on which Proctor was fouled, Kneuppel broke wide open. Instead of throwing the ball to the 92% free throw shooter, the inbounds went to a 68% free throw shooter. That's a huge mistake that set up the final result. Sorry, but you don't fritter away the lead that Duke had without having a significant part in your own demise. And the Blue Devils played a huge part in it.

All time choke job by Duke. Houston refused to give up though. I thought when they were called for the technical that they were finished.

I think Buzz Williams is a really good coach. That being said, I will not miss watching his style of basketball. Or him asking for a review of every call in the last 2 minutes, causing 2 hour and 45 minute games.

Did Taylor County have a player transfer to Somerset?

Should be a good one. Holman being out, and playing the second game of the early session will definitely up the degree of difficulty for the Warhawks. With that said, I think they'll have just enough to finish this out. I'll take Great Crossing 71-66.

Just a little bit too much Moreno in this one. Great Crossing pulls this one out 52-44.
