Tom Greer has been named the new DC at Southwestern today.  Big hire for them, unsure if Herron has moved on or in a different position.

Figured Greer would be looking at a HC gig.

Greer was supposed to be AHC and LB’s Coach.. that has since gone out the window and now he’s been announced as DC. I’d say Herron will not return. 

Herron was pushed out by Foley, 3 DC's in 3 years now for SW. Herron was told they wanted to go younger after the firing of Swearingen (longtime Somerset DC) last year only to be told a year later that they wanted to go older with more experience... Foley is a slime ball and everyone knows it. Herron coached with him for 7 years only to get done like this. I also heard a few other coaches got fired for no real reason.

Kids will be on the move due to this, they loved Herron and he is why many hadn't left yet...

In fairness, Payne and Rogers left for head coaching jobs but the # is the still the #. 

Hard to build any type of consistency within your defense when it is changing every season! Hopefully this hire works out. I do not know this coach personally, but it seems to me like this may be a one year stepping stone until he gets another Head Coaching job. Not going to try and predict the future but it seems very possible they are looking for their 6th in 6 years.

This is my understanding of the events as they have unfolded so far:

Greer came down last season and consults with Foley (While Herron is already calling defense) Herron is told he has nothing to worry about.

This offseason Foley discusses hiring Greer with Herron telling him again he has nothing to worry about. The conversation I was told was to actually ask Herron if he was good with the hire. Herron says yes trusting Foley.

Greer is hired and begins telling everyone he is hired as the new DC.

Herron is told this is happening and says that is not the case.

Within a few days, it comes out that Greer is in fact hired as the new DC.

If any of those rumors are even remotely true, then why would anyone ever want to work for Foley? Clearly, he cannot be trusted. Trust on a staff can make or break a season. Greer is known for doing exactly what happened here, so more than likely, if he sets his sights on it, then Foley will get it next. Which will be quite comical with all that has currently transpired. 

Interesting turn of events. 
Any chance Herron goes to any other school in the county? 

I was told today that Greer has already moved on, and will not be part of the Warriors 2025 staff.  Can anyone confirm?

This number will now be six in five years. Greer is pursuing the open superintendent job at Corbin. 
 

Herron will not return he has accepted a role with the Glasgow Coaching Staff.

You are correct. This Greer saga has been less than desirable to say the least.

Was told he got the superintendent position and let 3-4 coaches go first thing.

Looks like Greer was hired as Vice principal at Rockcastle.

Greer went from Southwestern DC and AHC. Then left them in June to pursue the Corbin Superintendent job and didn’t get that. Now he is a vice principal at Rockcastle HS. Busy summer.
