I think 1A is pretty wide open, much like last season. Raceland, Pikeville, KCD, and Campbellsville seem to be just a notch above the rest. But none of those teams have the look of one of the vintage Pikeville, Beechwood, or Mayfield teams. Those teams would have been a threat (most seasons, obviously not this one with CAL), to win 1A-3A. After seeing what Belfry did to Pikeville, I don't think any of these teams could even make the semi-finals in 2A. I think that could lead to some unpredictable playoffs.

It's crazy that Somerset/LCA was a second round game.

Metcalfe County makes the trip across the Cumberland Parkway to take on Somerset in a district clash. The Hornets have had a rough go of it so far this season, as they will come into the game at 1-4, with their only win coming against Adair County back on August 29th, by a score of 8-7. They dropped their first district contest last week to Monroe County, 31-14. Metcalfe County has only scored 30 points in their 5 games, an average of 6 points per game. They have surrendered 129, for an average of 25.8 points per game. Somerset, meanwhile, comes into the game with a record of 4-1, and winners of 4 in a row. The Briar Jumpers opened up district play with a 35-6 win on the road at Green County. Somerset has scored 169 points in their 5 games, for an average of 33.8 points, while surrendering 69, for an average of 13.8. On paper this looks like a mismatch. But it is Homecoming Week at The Briar Patch. Will the float making, theme days, parade and dance be a distraction and cause The Jumpers to come out flat. Or do they take care of business and move to 2-0 in the district?

If the stats are accurate, Pulaski County came into the game giving up an average of 99 yards per game. They left Johnson County giving up 184 yards a game.

I don't think I've ever seen a team ranked as high as Pulaski give up 526 yards rushing in a game. What a night for the Golden Eagles.

Green County picks up one first down, but then is forced to punt. Great punt. 53 yards to the Somerset 20. Green County gets an interception on the 2nd play. Designs immediately they're about a 40 yard touchdown. 2 point conversion fails 7-6 Somerset.

Campbellsville and then going to Somerset the next week should really show where Monroe is at.

Somerset travels to Greensburg to take on Green County in the district opener for both teams. Since dropping their opener to a surprising South Laurel team, Somerset has reeled off 3 straight wins. The most recent was a 42-7 win at Paris. Green County also comes in at 3-1. Their lone loss was a 22-6 setback to undefeated. The teams haven't met since 2022 when Somerset upset the Dragons in the first round of the playoffs, 41-30. Who starts off district play at 1-0?

Paris turns it over on downs. The Briar Jumpers score 2 plays later. Cimala this time from around 25 yards out. 21-0 Somerset, still 2:15 to go in the first quarter.

Paris picks up a first down but has to point. Somerset goes back down the field, and Kris Hughes takes it in from 23 yards out. Julian Carroll with the extra point. Somerset leads 14-0 with 5:16 to go in the first quarter.

Somerset gets the opening kickoff and puts together a 4 play scoring drive, all on the ground. Kris Hughes takes it in from about 45 yards. 7-0 Somerset.

I went to Paris last season to watch my nephew in an 8th grade game there. It was not a pleasant experience to try and watch a game in the bright afternoon sun. From pictures that I've seen, I think it will be a better experience under the lights.

That was Leonard Bahan. He went on to be team captain of both the football, and basketball teams at Notre Dame. He was the quarterback on their 1919 National Championship team. He played one year in the NFL as well. I had to give his induction speech at the Somerset Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony, when he was inducted a few years back.

I think they have to be behind Boone County and Glasgow for sure. While Raceland has been a yearly contender to win it all for the last decade, they didn't really have much playoff success until then. They didn't win their first regional championship until 2013 did they? The Rams didn't really become a threat to win it all until both Beechwood and Mayfield moved up to Class AA. They've definitely been a contender to win it all ever year since those 2 moved up in class.

Danville breaks a couple of long ones, but I think that the young players for the Admirals will have a hard time with Lincoln County up front. I'll take the Patriots 42-21.

They would have to beat them in the semifinals or finals there anyway. I don't see any of the other 4 teams knocking then off.

PT has scored at least 49 points in all 3 games. Isn't that just a normal day for them?
