The Steve Stonebreaker era keeps rolling as the Admirals (3-0) win a game that many, including myself, thought would be close by a wide margin.  Danville now has its first 3-0 start in five seasons, last achieved during the 2020 campaign (one could argue 2021 but the Ads had two COVID forfeits after a 2-0 start so it depends on what you wish to count as they won their next two games).  Jayvean Meaux scored at least three touchdowns for the Admirals, continuing to pile up stats on the ground.  The Admirals kicking game also seems to be coming together as Eduardo Cisneros kicked some extra points after a first kick went awry.  The real star was arguably the Admirals defense that largely held Anderson's offense in check, only surrendering one score.  Freshman quarterback Dillon Cruver showed good poise and had no turnovers either, making a few good plays.  Overall, lots of good news out of this game if you are an Admiral fan because of the work done by younger players.

The win gives Danville a second 5A RPI win in as many weeks.  They also maintain their lengthy unbeaten streak against the Bearcats.  Again, it's crazy to think of how this team went winless the last two seasons.

Next week the Admirals go across county lines to play Lincoln County in a battle of undefeated teams as the Patriots are also off to a 3-0 start.  Anderson (1-2) will host Harrison County (0-2 going into tonight).

 

Give it a couple years but Danville will win a State Title under Stoney.

So happy to see Stoney getting this program in the right direction. I hope he’s here to stay for the long haul.

I read in an Advocate Messenger story a week or so ago that he applied for the job when it came open post-Mark Peach (and I think he also applied when Peach got it).  I think he was also quoted in that story as saying he always saw this as a dream job.  I'm just glad he kept applying and wasn't turned off by how the process, especially post-Peach, was handled.

I have to admit I’m surprised by how much Danville won by. Good job guys!

I’m biased being an Adair County person but seeing firsthand what Stonebraker can do he’s a heck of a high school football coach. Players really seem to buy in to whatever he is preaching. 

Have to eat crow with this result.  Was very confident that Anderson would get the W, so apologies to the Admirals.  

Has Danville worked there way into Class 2a's Top 10 or is there record a product of playing a weak schedule thus far?

I’d say they’re right on the edge. The Anderson win is pretty good; Lincoln next week will be their best opponent yet. I’d say if they beat the Patriots then they’ll be ranked for sure!

I would say that their opponents have gotten progressively better but the schedule as a whole is much softer than the last few years.  That was smart, though, because the Ads are rebuilding and have lots of freshmen and sophomores on this team.  Fort Knox was a lower tier opponent who brought a long winless streak into the game, Fairdale was above that, and Anderson was a test above that.  I concur with gchs that Lincoln will be their toughest opponent yet and will be another good test of where this program is at and where it is going.

The 3 teams had a combined 5 wins last year. 3 for Anderson and 2 for Fairdale. But like someone said smart scheduling when you’re rebuilding with young players.
