Somerset travels to Paris to take on the undefeated Greyhounds on the orange turf.   The Briar Jumpers are 2-1, and are fresh off of a in over crosstown rival Southwestern.  Paris is 3-0, with all their wins coming against fellow 1A schools.  The Greyhounds are in their first year under former EKU Offensive Coordinator Dane Damron, and have lit up the scoreboard with 127 points in 3 games.   Will the Greyhound's speed and passing attack be able to make this a track meet? Or will Somerset's defense continue to build on a pair of strong outings the last 2 weeks? 

We get to see what Paris is about in this one. I’m looking forward to hearing about this one.

I think Somerset is too good up front on both sides of the ball.  The Greyhounds will do some damage with their speed.  But I think they'll have a lot of trouble with the Briar Jumpers ground game.  I'll take Somerset 35-14.  Looking forward to making a pit stop at Jerry's on the trip.  This will be the first game I've gotten to watch in person this season.  

IMO Somerset will be a far more disciplined team than Paris. I do agree that the speed of the Greyhounds could pose a risk, but I don't know if they can handle the physicality from the Briar Jumpers. I think this is the first real test for Paris and we will quickly find out how good the Greyhounds are.

Is this streaming anywhere it would be interesting to watch a game on that orange turf. I’ve seen games on Warren East’s blue field.

For Paris fans it is pretty cool. If you're not on the Greyhound bandwagon and you're a rival, it is the ugliest turf in the US.

It is kind of like Ludlow to me, on one hand it looks cool, on the other hand it is very loud and I don't enjoy watching the game, it is a distraction. 

Paris will make few plays early in game but Somerset has really good defense and make adjustments.

Back in the old, old Central Kentucky Conference days this was a somewhat regularly played game. However, this week marks the first meeting between the two since 1971 when Somerset won 38-21 and that meeting was the first since 1940, a 20-0 Somerset win. Somerset leads the series 10-1-4 with the lone Paris win a 6-0 victory in 1938 season opener. I suspect this week's game will be close, unlike the first game in 1915 when Somerset eased past the Greyhounds, 147-0. Jumpers quarterback Bahan (sorry, no first name) scored 9 of their 22 total touchdowns!

Have been told this is the last remaining Jerry’s anywhere.  Use to visit it back in the late 60’s early 70’s and understand it is still in the original owner’s family (Pullians).

I always liked Jerry’s really good breakfast. We had one in Glasgow but it’s been gone at least 40 years.

That was Leonard Bahan.  He went on to be team captain of both the football, and basketball teams at Notre Dame.  He was the quarterback on their 1919 National Championship team.  He played one year in the NFL as well. 

I had to give his induction speech at the Somerset Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony, when he was inducted a few years back.

I went to Paris last season to watch my nephew in an 8th grade game there. It was not a pleasant experience to try and watch a game in the bright afternoon sun.  From pictures that I've seen, I think it will be a better experience under the lights.
