I don't even know where to begin or what to make the criteria. I love KY football and want to know the best programs who have just fallen short of making it to the top of the mountain. Maybe they are consistently good but just not quite there. I would like to think teams since the playoffs started instead of the old "Mythical" state champions named by the newspapers back in the day.

Raceland is the poster child for this thread. Especially in the last decade. This year may be their best shot. 

Based on historical success, I'd put it this way:

1. Owensboro Catholic
2. Glasgow
3. Raceland
4. Boone County
5. Henderson County
6. Prestonsburg

For years Somerset was at the top of this list but they departed a couple of years ago, much to the satisfaction of @Carl Spackler and @Jumper_Dad!

I really thought last year was Owensboro Catholic's year! I moved From Glasgow MT to Glasgow KY a few years ago and have fallen in love with the football in this state. Glasgow, MT (also the Scotties) has 4 state championships, but the level is nowhere close to the same. the helmet is pretty cool though

Historically speaking the answer to this one is Boone County.

I don’t know. Owensboro Catholic has lost 6 title games. Glasgow and Raceland, just like Boone County, have lost 4 titles. All three have more playoff wins and district titles than does Boone. They have a case, but the Rebels collapse over the last couple decades has dropped them from the top of the list in my opinion.

I always think of Glasgow as taking over the top after we finally got off of the list. 

Glasgow, Raceland, and O-Cath all stick out because they are smaller schools, and it is easier (albeit never truly easy) to sneak up and win a championship in the smaller classes historically. 

For sheer talent that has come through the school, I don't think anyone can argue that it is amazing that Boone has never gotten over the hump... especially pre-1992 when Ryle came on the scene and began step one of the "Boone Co. HS dismantling project".

Henderson Co. is just a mystery. They had their best chances with Will Fidler and Co. and Tom Duffy pulling the levers. But honestly, Henderson has just never been much of a "powerhouse" of a program.  

Glasgow is the best answer and not far behind them is Owensboro Catholic.

I would think Glasgow’s main problem is Cal and Owensboro Catholic’s main problem is Beechwood. Hard to win one with those schools in the same class. I would think Raceland may get one soon maybe this year who knows.

Agreed. Of those I listed, I think Raceland and/or Owensboro Catholic are the most likely to get off the list.

Glasgow to Glasgow 1,571 miles and keep the same nickname.  Although the nickname kind of makes sense but moving from Glasgow, MT with a population under 4,000 to another Glasgow population around 15,000 is really neat.

US Army Corps of Engineers- Fort Peck Dam to Barren River Lake to finish my two years and retire, got to pick from about 20 places and chose Glasgow-Glasgow cause I thought it was neat.

I think they have to be behind Boone County and Glasgow for sure.  While Raceland has been a yearly contender to win it all for the last decade, they didn't really have much playoff success until then.  They didn't win their first regional championship until 2013 did they?  The Rams didn't really become a threat to win it all until both Beechwood and Mayfield moved up to Class AA.  They've definitely been a contender to win it all ever year since those 2 moved up in class.
